'One Malaysia'... The TRUE version?
Is Najib's 'One Malaysia' a knockoff from the concept of Malaysian Malaysia? Is One Malaysia meant for Bangsa Malaysia?
It's a question that baffles all polarised extremes, from DAP to Umno, from PBB to PAS.
To the people on the street, they take it to mean the termination of the New Economic Policy (NEP) -- where Malay billionaires can still qualify to buy properties at huge Bumiputra discounts while the rural and city poor remain in abject poverty. And treating all post-Merdeka Malaysian-born as equals.
Not the case, if the Umno-owned Utusan is regarded as the fore-bearer of Umnoputra policy.
For example, Mingguan Malaysia's Awang Selamat used his column today to stake his claim that One Malaysia means no one in the country will be sidelined but affirmative action policies will continue. Or quote Satu Malaysia versi sebenar:
"... Satu Malaysia akan memastikan tiada golongan atau kaum yang terpinggir di negara ini tetapi pada masa yang sama tidak menolak dasar afirmatif."
Awang Selamat is a pseudonym used by the editors at Utusan Malaysia.
Malaysian Insider has a contextual translation of this, here.
Flashback, Flash Forward
FLASH FORWARD: Najib's media czar Johan Jaafar keeps reminiscing the ghost of Tun Razak in the 21st Century.
FLASHBACK: "No Bangsa Malaysia in Constitution, says Najib". That was the headline on Pg 6, New Straits Times, Nov 7, 2006.

Don't forget to ask him in Parliament about that statement. But then again he may say..NST misquoted him or he may say "I swear I have not met her...err I mean I did not say that"
