Permatang Pauh: And the winner is.....

Then main Umno strategy to break Anwar Ibrahim's chances of winning the Permatang Pauh by-election was to play dirty. One of the dirty tricks was the swearing of Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at the FT Mosque that he was sodomised.

That Umno plot may have collapsed.

FT Mosque Imam, Ramlang Porigi, who is a Permatang Pauh voter, revealed 12.30am this morning that he "had been instructed" to witness Saiful's swearing act and had no part in drafting the oath. Meaning, everything was pre-arranged by someone.

Ramlang said the swearing was not in accordance to Islam and that Saiful had made two mistakes that day. Quote:

"During the swearing, Saiful mispronounced one of the Islamic words because he had it written down in Malay instead of Arabic.

Ramlang also revealed a Freudian slip by Saiful.

"Saiful also made a mistake on when Anwar Ibrahim had allegedly inserted his penis into his rectum.

"Instead of June 26, Saiful said he was sodomised on Aug 26 before correcting himself," said Ramlang at PKR headquarters, Yayasan Aman in Permatang Pauh.

While Ramlang refused to state anything about the involvement of any Umno politicians in making the arrangement for Saiful to swear upon the Quran, he however exposed Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's links with the affair in an interview with PKR's Suara Keadilan.

He told the party organ that the swearing ceremony was arranged by Najib's special aide.

Malays split 60-30 on Saiful's oath

Meanwhile, the latest Merdeka Centre opinion poll revealed that the Malays in Permatang Pauh, comprising 69% of the voters, are roughly split 60-30 in favour of Anwar Ibrahim over the sodomy claim against the PKR candidate.

Close to 60% in the hotly contested constituency said that they do not believe Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who has sworn in a mosque that he was sodomised by the opposition leader.

According to the Merdeka Centre survey, which was conducted over the weekend in Permatang Pauh among 544 Malays, 56.7% of them said that they ‘somewhat do not believe’ (21.4%) or ‘do not believe at all’ (35.3%) in Saiful’s confession.

'Mat Rempit'

I spent time at the Kubang Semang police station till 1.30am this morning.

Last night, the Pakatan Rakyat vigilante team managed to nab a group of Mat Rempits bearing DAP flags on speeding bikes, causing public disorder near Kubang Semang. I filed a police report, gave my statement to the IO while the 11 youths were detained at the same police station, complete with the DAP flags illegally used in the act. I made sure these buggers are placed under police remand until we come back to deal with them after the by-election.

We also saw stacks of the sneakly distributed "Anwar Ibrahim's Cabinet 2008" that blamed Anwar for selling selling out Malays' interests. Of the 24 cabinet posts, the fake Cabinet list portrayed only eight posts going to the Malays, while the rest went to the Indians and Chinese.

I brought along a photographer to capture the faces of the these 11 Mat Rempits. They can't run away.

I was speaking at a ceramah alongside Anwar Ibrahim at Kubang Semang last night when I was alerted of the incident.

Boy, wish I was there. I hope these 'Mat Rempigs' are taught a lesson they won't forget. Do not let them get away. Charge them to the full extend of the law! It is fantastic that you have taken their pix lest the polis releases them without charges. I can bet they are 'orang upah' of SIL and Hishamuddin. BTW, why dont you post the pix of these buggers so that everyone can identify who these pariahs are ....but please check with your lawyers first though I don't see any issues since they did commit a crime.

I was actually quite unsurprised to see the claims by one of the four imams who witnessed Saiful's confession that the Quran-swearing was invalid and ingenuine. I was unsurprised as the imam Ramlang Porigi was from the area, nigh 'se-kampung' with Anwar. And of course Ramlang Porigi came forward voluntarily. He had to. You only need to read the language of his 'expose' to realise why:

"...he had not conspired with anyone in relation to Saiful’s ’swearing on the Qur’an’ episode."

"...he was now facing attacks."

"...he had nothing to do with the preparation of the text of that which Saiful uttered..."

"...he asked that the people of Permatang Pauh would not fault him for this entire episode."

Ramlang Porigi was afraid. Assuming he, as a religious man, was speaking sincerely, that does not detract from the fact that the language he used begged to be excused and forgiven by his kampung folk for 'betraying' their local hero, Anwar Ibrahim. That Ramlang Porigi was brave is not an issue, he was trying to survive and retain his license to come back to his kampung without being harassed for his involvement in the Saiful Quran-swearing event.

One must be sympathetic of the position Ramlang was put in. He made clear that he did not ask to be involved in these events, he was doing his job. But certainly it must have been most painful for him to have been exposed as one involved, as he would have been 'attacked' not just by anonymous Anwaristas on the web, but by his kampung folk, family members even!

Dear YB,

It is not enough just to take their pictures. Have taken their IC nos. too?

JEFF OOI says: No, we could not trespass into the Police's responsibility.

And have someone stand guard at the remand station so that they are not surreptitiously released without your knowledge. Otherwise PDRM will later claim someone made a mistake and they cannot trace them anymore so no case.

and the winner is... the rakyat!
