Being brethren

Blogger-political commentator Oon Yeoh shadowed me during the final laps of the Permatang Pauh campaign and came home with some observation. Quote this third-party view of his:

Two anecdotal experiences by Oon in Permatang Pauh capture, in a nutshell, the main takeaway points from the ‘mother of all by-elections’.

The first was Oon's morning visit to a wet market in Seberang Jaya, Arif Shah Omar Shah's state constituency. When Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the same wet market, he was mobbed by well wishers and supporters who wanted to shake his hand and to take pictures with him. Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak and Arif also made appearances there but their reception was lukewarm at best. They didn't stay for long.

The second was Oon's walkabout with Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi of the DAP. Ooi's entourage was greeted warmly by PAS supporters who exchanged party flags with them and proceeded to proudly wave the DAP flag. Later on, a PKR van would come by and hand out some biscuits for both DAP and PAS supporters.

The first anecdote reflects the stark contrast between the levels of support for Pakatan Rakyat on the one hand and for Barisan Nasional on the other. The second reflects the level of genuine cooperation and the feeling of 'muhibbah' between the component parties within Pakatan, a level of cooperation that had not existed as recently as the general election in March.

The Permatang Pauh by-election gave us lower echelon leaders a golden opportunity to work as brethren to fight the common foe.

May God give us strength to continue this endeavour as brethren.

Alhamdulillah, God has answered our nation’s & its downtrodden rayaat’s prayers....

My Heartiest Congratulations to DSAI, His Pakatan Rayaat Leaders, their Team....,

Dear YB Jeff,

I would also like to share this with you & your readers.

With our nation’s Historic “Ground Zero” established by DSAI, Pakatan Rayaat & the Permatang Pauh voters, let us keep our “Focus” on our journey to that “Dream” Destination.

Just ponder on this :

Let us ALL be “Magnanimous in Victory” & not forget that “PERSON” that made it all possible, will be etched in the History of this great nation…..

“Malaysia for ALL Malaysians” (Anak Bangsa Malaysia) where EVERY citizen can “Dream” of, be “GIVEN” the “OPPORTUNITY” to “WORK” hard “TOWARDS IT”, to “ACHIEVE” the “MALAYSIAN DREAM”.

Our Malaysian Heroine of the 21st century - Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Ismail, the first woman “Leader of the Opposition” in the Malaysian Parliament….”Graciously” resigned as the MP for Permatang Pauh to pave the way for this “New Dawn”.

She had sustained the “PKR Fortress” during its “Sad” years , later together with her daughter YB Nurul Izzah managed to elevate it to its present status, achieved the status of being nominated & presided as the first woman “Leader of the Opposition” in the Malaysian Parliament…..

Against all odds, with the Humiliation, Intimidation, Harrassment, Punishment, etc meted to her, her husband DSAI & her family by the “Powers-that-be”…..

My heartiest Congratulations, Gratitude & Tribute to our Nation’s Heroine of the 21st century - Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Ismail.

"Brethren". A good word, and an excellent reminder of what Malaysians should consider fellow Malaysians.

Regardless of creed, colour or religion.

We have major differences in several important areas.

And a great deal of emotional baggage, a hugh amount of which is no thanks to decades of divide-and-rule. A vile tactic left over from the British days, and honed to a disgusting degree by many succesive "leaders".

But the rakyat and Pakatan have shown not once, but twice, how they can work together, and show just what they thought of the divisive measures, lies and tactics that surround them.

No longer will the divide-and-rule tactics work.

Even ("you know what to do tomorrow ah...") money, gifts and blatant "eye-wash" stuff like lightning resurfacing of roads all over the place do not have the effect they had for so long.

A large and growing percentage of the Malaysian public have learnt to regard each other as bretren.

actually the big fat one is the should be the first to resign!!!!!!!!!!!!! why? easy
15000 votes is for arif shah good man wrong party
31000 for anwar, malaysia, pkr and pure democracy and merdeka.
najib been over in permatang pauh for more than 10 full days, 24/7, yet 17000 eligible umno voters doesn't even tally bn votes. nobody is listening to the big fat one, najib!!!!!!!!!

now there is light at the end of the tunnel.....i like to thank the voters of permatang pauh of giving us the best MERDEKA present after 51 years .............

I am delighted to see what the countryman has achieved in unity among their differences. This has proved that deep inside everyone's heart, we are one, Malaysian. Our next generation will definitely be proud of us.
