Going south. Why?
There was some selling pressure on key stocks listed on Bursa Malaysia today. At midday close, the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was down 19.87 points from yesterday's 1,173 to 1,154.96.
This is the lowest ebb in a year for KLCI.
The tally showed 561 losers leading 47 gainers. Volume remained thin with 469.58 million shares worth RM225.49 milion.
The market remains jittery and is still going south. Has it got to do with politics? Or is it due to a severe leadership crisis triggered by the decisive results of GE2008, that people and investors are still awaiting a political transition of sorts under way in Malaysia? Or is it because a general negative views of Rosmah, seen from both sides of the Straits, a problem for Najib, the PM-in-waiting?
Blogger-Editor Chun Wai has some takes on this, but remember to see how people manage perception nowadays, as evident in polls conducted by Merdeka Centre, an independent research firm. It's a glaring 60% yes, and 6% no among ethnic Malays.
UPDATES: As at 2:46 pm, KLCI slipped further to 1152.75 points. Losers outdo gainers 600 vs 64, with 159 counters unchanged.
