Intel Inside Outside
The RM47 million heist in Penang 2006, involving Intel-made microships, could not be solved for now.
It may not be solved for ever.
Finally, yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan was asked the question in Penang, and he revealed that "some of the microchips [...] that were stolen from the Batu Maung Second Air Cargo Complex in 2006 have been smuggled out of the country".
As a punchline, the top cop vaguely hinted that trails have been tracked in "countries where the dealings were said to have taken place". Note the plural.
But I must ask if the heist could be pulled off without inside job?
That would be the question for the Police and the FIZ folks to ponder and tell all. Or The Italian Job is bound to reprise.
BY THE WAY... In an unrelated event, Sri Lankan businessman B.S.A. Tahir, who made Malaysia as a place to produce centrifuge component units, and helped Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan sell illicit nuclear technology to Iran, is now free from ISA detention. Also read The Star on this.
A month ago, on May 7, Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar announced in the Parliament that investigations had shown Tahir's actions "posed a threat to national security and the country's economy".
The Home Minister went on record to state that investigations revealed Tahir had links with an international network involved in the proliferation of nuclear weapons technology to Libya.
More, Hamid also said Tahir had links with the network of Abdul Kader Khan, the expert responsible for turning Pakistan into a nuclear-power nation and was involved in developing nuclear weapons for Iran and Libya.
Tahir had been held in Kamunting since June 2004.
And now, like the stolen Intel chips, Tahir is also outside.
When the media and the country are hyping on Yong Teik Lee, Tahir has the perfect chance to sneak away, hardly noticed.

Ahhh... I see... So the government did review its ISA, by releasing the person who supposedly a serious threat to the peaceful Malaysia...
and a strong majority elected rep continues to stay in the Kamunting, alongside with the equally alleged Tamil Tiger associates...
Way to go... the Home Ministry... ;)
