Just being cheeky about bloggers?
According to reports in the mainstream media, the newly-appointed Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek was quoted as saying 'the Government will not control bloggers' and, instead, will consider their views and recognise their role in nation building. A meeting with the blogging community is being planned, is that true?
I am not trying to be cheeky, but if Shabery Cheek wants to meet the blogging community, the first person he should call is Rocky Bru, the president of ALL BLOGS (National Alliance of Bloggers).
I said that in China Press today.

I dont trust Ahmad Shabery nor the BN on this at all. They are just trying to win the bloggers over and used them to their advantage. Also, more importantly, they would also want to identify who these bloggers are with the Special Branch.
Don't fall for their trick. After all, they were persecuting the bloggers before the election to silence them. Why the change of heart now?

I just attended a User Group meeting, and on media side, Adobe has started to pay attention to bloggers and user group members, recognizing our role as alternative media.
I can't predict what the game BN is going to play, but certainly, they did not do it good last time but accusing bloggers as misleading media.

it's a 'sweet', so don fall for the trap. most of the bloggers now are annonymous, so coming 'out' is like going into a room full of tigers.
bloggers should be free of all political influence and they will now be targeting bloggers for the next ge. so jeff and everyone, boycott this meeting

i disagree on the first person he should call is 'rocky, president of all blogs'.
not all bloggers support all blogs, mind you and of course all blogs doesn't represent all bloggers.
if you just say the first person he should call is 'rocky, a well-known/top, prominent blogger' - that i agree.
JEFF OOI says: The wisdom of who to call first lies with the Minister. But it will be discriminatory for the Minister to pick and choose any individuals while ignoring the presence of an organised group like ALL-BLOGS. But if the Minister prefers to deal with cowboys, that's his choice.

Hi Jeff,
The minister should first make a public statement that he will champion the withdrawal of the legal suit against you and Rocky. The primary purpose of the suit is to muzzle bloggers. But bloggers have prevailed.
Further, we know communication technology will improve exponentially in the near future. As such, what is today the "Main Stream Media" will soon be just another ordinary medium of communication. I can imagine getting daily updates from you on my mobile. You dont need MSM to get your message accross. In days to come, 100% of the voters will carry a mobile. All you need to do, develop your database for your constituent.
Likewise, all other BR state assemblyman and MPs should do the same. Cheers

The Rocky's Bru blog no doubt has a rather large following in Malaysia.
I have noticed that he has been hypercritical of Badawi and SIL, and everyone else seems to chime in like lemmings. However, he has no criticism for Najib or TDM when many are aware of their alleged transgressions.
So, why should Shabery approach him if his biaseness is so obvious?

All info ministers are there to spin for PM, DPM and UMNO. ANd all umno appointees to the post will sell their soul to remain ministers. If this Shabery guy plays hero..he will be replaced immdly. Let us be very clear about this. There is no way Shabery is allowed free range. Even if AAB has become "enlightened" which i doubt, I think he is still sleeping and dreaming and listening to the 4th floor ADVISORS oherwise how can you explain the protracted issue with the Trengganu palace....
UMNO thinks they own RTM.
Sorry..this could be an exercise in futility.
Penang needs more attention rather that playing to Shabery's tune

is good for blogger to expose more with the meeting they held, but do think twice for the offer they give

Guess who's going to the (proposed) info blog party
When no one knows the level of sincerity
Are bloggers going to be gagged and look pretty
While there are still folks out there banging bloggers dirty
