Why Pak Non is made 'Consultant Editor'
Consultant Editor is someone who has no editorial power.
In The Star, it's like V.K. Chin, whose dough is to write an ass-licking column that appears every weekday but people do not read as much.
Lately, with Tong Kooi Ong 'forced" to withdraw from co-owning theSun, its political editor Zainon Ahmad was re-designated as the paper's consultant editor. We do not know if Cikgu will be VK Chin.
However, many thought that there were black hands at work. Recently, on an Angkasapuri letterhead, Pak Non was accused of this:
"I am saddened to count you as one of the writers painting themselves into a corner by limiting their work to negative commentaries just for the sake of playing to the galleries."
Rocky's Bru smelt something or so it seems. Read here and here.
And the Ministry of Information isn't the one that issues yearly renewable printing and publishing licenses to newspapers, or to control its content.
