You really made me cry...

UPDATED VERSION. UPDATES... As at 01.10hr...

Donations received from Screenshots readers:
1 ) Maybank2U: RM30,273.27
2 ) PayPal: US$2,845.19 net after handling fee.

With the latest tally, that's about 40% of the target for this online campaign, i.e. to raise RM100,000 from readers of this blog. Thank you very much.

Meanwhile, private donations from my personal contacts in the corporate sector, friends, professional circles had been very encouraging. Even my former boss donated. However, all these people are so humble that they donate generously but prefer to remain anonymous.

I would like you to know that the donors from Screenshots readers and my private contacts, they include people from all races. There is no insignificant number of my Malay brothers and sisters who showed qualms over my identity in DAP. They must have seen me from the light of JEFF 4 MALAYSIA.

On the other hand, I am indebted to several professional people, who are ardent Screenshots readers from Penang, are putting down their tools to help me run the Operation Centre.

So motivating... for Malaysia

Over the days since I started the online fund-raising drive on Feb 16, I was graced with several motivating letters and SMSes. I would like to share three of them:

FROM A 60 YEAR OLD MALAYSIAN:

I am a 60 year old KL businessman who is very fed up with the present extremely pro-Malay Government (the BN Chinese so-called "partners" are merely lap dogs). Both my sons are studying in NY and Melbourne on their father's scholarship , meaning my money. I hope you will win in the election and it is young and brilliant people like you WHO CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE !

So, here goes - I am willing to immediately make a cash donation of at least RM3,000 to help you to defray your mounting campaign expenses. I do not have to meet you. All you have to do is just tell me which bank account no. I have to bank the money to. I hope this sum will help you buy sufficient posters, etc for your campaign.

Best of luck to your campaign. I await your e-mail reply.

(I and my wife have voted consistently for DAP in PJ Utara)

TWO KIDS TO FEED, HUSBAND JOBLESS

Dear Jeff,

I have deposited RM1,000 into your Maybank account via ATM on 18 Feb 2008 at 9.25pm. The image of the transaction slip is attached as Attach File.

I wish I could contribute more. However, I am just a teacher and have 2 kids to feed. Moreover, my husband has been jobless for nearly a year.

I have also sent email to most of my contacts this afternoon asking them to make contribution. I attached verbatim the content of the email I sent, as below.

I will approach a few more friends via phone call and SMS. Hopefully I will be able to persuade them to contribute.

This much I could do for your fund raising.

Wishing you the very best.

US$2, SANDWICHES AND JUICES
Dear Jeff Ooi,

Greetings from a fellow Malaysian studying in Australia, homesick, family-sick, friend-sick, desperately-need-help-Penang-food-sick, and above all, too young to vote, just a few days too young. Not keen on the idea of postal ballots anyway.

I have just made a token contribution of USD2 to your Paypal account. I’m sorry but I have no income and surviving on little more than sandwiches and juice (almost daily!). Unless you have an e-book version of your book, please don’t send it to me. I would prefer you to spend the postage money on your campaign. Book selling is what bookshops are for, a political campaign is another thing.

Perhaps this election (and the next few years of course) can help me decide whether to keep my Malaysian citizenship. I’m having trouble deciding if getting harassed by the occasional racist teenager in Australia is actually better for my health than going home for anything longer than a vacation.

I bid you good luck in the coming elections. Save Malaysia.

In the meantime, I’ll just introduce congkak to some of my friends here. At least there is something Malaysian worth singing about: our diverse culture.

Go get’em tiger. Thank you.

Sincerely,
(Name withheld by Jeff Ooi

There are several more motivating messages that really could make me cry. There are many more caring MALAYSIANS 4 MALAYSIA than I had ever thought. This is good for the country.

On the ground level, we need volunteers -- details here.

Jeff I know you will not disappoint the people. we have faith in you.

all the best buddy and see you in parliament as an MP. Bring me along as visitor lo when they swear you in. He he.

Today I am so happy to learn that three colleagues here have together made rm10,000 for you. I don't think the fund has reached you yet, but it's so touching and encouraging to see this, because we are all far far away from Penang - Singapore!

To those who are thinking to help Jeff (and democracy in Malaysia), time is actually running out. Act immediately as there is not much time for the money to be used to procure the logistics. Only 12 days of campaigning! Quick, run!

Dear Jeff,

No amount is too small here and I have just done my part for the donation.

It's sincerely a wish from Tee family that you will do well in the coming election @ Jelutong.

Besides, I have emailed all my friends about the donation campaign and hopefully the target amount will be reached faster than expected in order to get a blogger into the parliament.

Brother, all the best.

For those who want to cut to the chase, you can Maybank2U or ATM to Jeff's Maybank Account:

Ten ringgit a person can go a long way ... donate to your future, Malaysian's

Jeff 4 Jelutong First before Jeff 4 Malaysia. I have wired contributions to your account and the DAP HQ one in support of DAP cause. Whatever support we can render do it now to help Jeff achieve his achievable as he is also up against a Gerakan newcomer, Dr Thor Teong Gee. With the winds of change blowing in the opposition favor, Jeff might be carried into the August Parliament body with the will of the people as anything can happen in politics.

His colleague DAP strategist Liew ChinTong standing at Bukit Bendera against Chia Kwang Chye has aptly put it
“I am here to humbly seek a mandate from the people and be their agent of change. I am not here to seek personal gain,” he told reporters. He said: "The choice is left to the voters to decide whether they are satisfied with what they have seen in the past years or if they want stronger check and balance within the government."
Another concern is the state’s political dominance, citing that by 2010, Penang will turn into a "second Sabah". "Gerrymandering will see unprofessional appropriation of voters within constituencies and Penang will be an Umno state by then. He added: "We want Penang to change this by denying Barisan Nasional the two-thirds majority to ensure that the Election Commission will not be able to redraw the boundaries and thus put a stop to Umno’s political juggernaut and preserve Penang’s passion for democracy,"

DAP is against great odds in Penang. Its party chief reported getting venues for ‘ceremahs” is also difficult. There was a drama in Panang when its legal adviser Rayer complained of marginalization of DAP Indian Candidates in Penang - another infighting cropping up. The leadership of veteran Karpal Singh solved the situation when Rayer retracted his accusations in the afternoon. More details & pics at

plus PKR catching on the popularity & exposure of the Lingam Viedo Clip players to win in two seats. The maker of the clip Loh Gwo Burne is standing in Kelana Jaya most probably at the behest of his father Loh Kim Fah, a rich man bankrolling his participation via a PKR ticket. And the other lawyer Wee Choo Keong is abandoning his MDP and the Bukit Bintang seat he had won before as an MP and trying his chance in Wangsa Maju under PKR.

hey Jeff, I'm a Malaysian student in Australia. I have been following screenshots since it's humble beginning days when it was still a blogspot. All I can say is all the best. We need more people who will actually represent the rakyat in the parliament. I believe this country is in a critical stage and if our leaders continue to remain complacent, i think Malaysia will very soon live in the shadow of it's previous golden era. Telling you from the field, MALAYSIA is experiencing severe BRAIN DRAIN. Many of my fellow Malaysian students love Malaysia. We want to come back to our beloved tanah air but we are very frustrated by all the red tape, corruption and empty promises. Malaysia has been made a laughing stock around the globe especially with the infamous 'you know who' interview with Al-jazeera pertaining the BERSIH rally. I belive many young ppl echo the same sentiment. We want change and we do not want Malaysia being Boleh for all the wrong reasons.

All the best Jeff! I'll personally make small token of contribution for help you champion your cause which is for the sake of our future as Malaysians. God Bless You!

Good day Jeff,

I'm your reader since one and the half years ago. I was learned from your screenshots what should a Malaysian citizen's should act. I’m IT guy whose work in MNC and have an opportunity to explore to some countries for work assignment and training. I have a very bad feeling during my trip to Singapore at one time.

I have heard all kind of bad Governance about our Government from the taxi driver who sent me to hotel. I have to take it by laughing by our neighbor, because I’m Malaysian. I’m really feel up sad and ashamed with Malaysian Government.

This message is for our government :
-- Hey Pak Lah, please let your “Rakyat” to be proud of your country, let us feel we are part of Malaysian; Be fair to other races of “Rakyat”, we are the tax payer ! Please seriously choose a talented an educated people to be the MP, “Menteri” or any of the top Government officer. To be a successor must have an open minded (Think), knowledgeable (EQ), commit (Accept comment) and change (Action). Not by your mouth commitment, especially when the GE time nearby. ----- * I want to voice this out to our Government for some times ago, now I did it “DO YOU REALLY THINK YOUR “RAKYAT” STUPID ???!!“

I’m going to vote at parliamentary area 046 – Batu Kawan for the coming GE2008. This is my first time join the polling. I’m very sure that I’m going to support DAP, not to means I’m siding DAP, but I can see DAP can change our generations, at least at this point.

I choose to drop my message via jeffooi.com is because I believe this is the only way to pass the “Rakyat” ‘s message to government and all Malaysian , not the so call “Pak Lah” ‘s commitment, to hear Rakyat’s voices.

I personally will contribute a small money to your account. We want to see changes after the GE2008. Wish you all the best.
