My worthy opponent in Jelutong
My opponent has started to attack me and question the validity of bloggers in general.
On Page A14 of Guang Ming Daily (Feb 27, evening edition), my opponent whipped all bloggers in a broad sweep by stating that "bloggers hide behind computers and live in a virtual world".
He said "people could only imagine but could never feel the sincerity (of bloggers) beyond the computer".
Maybank2U and Paypal are both financial services in the virtual world where people connect to transact funds through the computer.
With Maybank2U and Paypal, I managed to raise RM85,000.00 in 11 days.
Real world Malaysians have donated generously to the JEFF 4 MALAYSIA cause as they could feel my presence from around the world.
Is my worthy opponent plain naive or he wanted Maybank2U and Paypal to shut down?
It's my neck that I stick out for the sake of Malaysia, right here in Jelutong.
Comments
The fact remains that you're more transparent than all those who claim to be transparent, yet use the facade of their politically owned news media. This is what the future is all about. The change we want to see. Public accountability. The trend is set. You're the pioneer (at least here in boleh-land). We're cheering for you all the way to the finishing line.
Good luck, Jeff.

Hi Jeff,
Since I am also a blogger I must be living in a virtual world too. Since I have no inkling of what is happening in the real world I really don't know who this opponent of yours is anyway. Can someone who is living in the real world kindly disclose or maybe expose who actually is he and what is he like?

Now is the time Jeff to spend the money, don't wait, spend it wisely but spend all of it not tomorrow, BUT Today! Passing excess to other party members is also wise spending.
There will be more time to raise money in the future after you win.
Now you can fully and trully concentrate on your campaign.
To Jeff's Readers:
Contributing is easy at the atm which accepts cash or over the counter. RM10 goes a long way with the number of readers in this blog!
GET INVOLVED IN YOUR FUTURE!
Only 9 more days to get involved, go to Maybank, drive to maybank, bank in RM10 or RM1. Just the thought of donating is powerful. Any amount counts.
Remember, Jeffs account no
Name: OOI CHUAN AUN
Number: Maybank 512222409165

Jeff,
Personally, I find his comments to be moronic.
To counter his comments, may I suggest a rebuttal using a language that the common man would understand.
You have always been transparent with you writings and your blog is more reliable than all the mainstream newspapers in Malaysia.
I sincerely hope that momentum is on your side.
If Barack Obama over here in the US can pick up steam, I am sure that you can do it too.
Good luck my friend and keep writing come what may.

The fact that you are standing for elections shows that you are not hiding behind the computer and neither are you insincere in wanting to make a change for the betterment of this country.
With all due respect to your worthy opponent, I think he shot himself with his own statement about bloggers when you are the proof of a blogger who blogs and walks the talk.
I really hope you will make it to Parliament and continue to expose BN MP's shady dealings - with Parliamentary immunity.

Well Jeff, First of all I would like to wish you all the best for this coming election as you are standing in my area.
I'm sure you understand the theory and practical in order to win this coming battle in Jelutong. You have to learn your opponent pros and cons and meanwhile back up yourself and ready your WEAPON!
As a young IT savvy that have been away from my hometown for my undergraduate study, I strongly believe that Jelutong is not an area with tremendous number of IT savvy.
Therefore I hope you plan your strategies well and announce your promises to the ppl of Jelutong and keep it in the bottom of your mind and heart, always and forever.

Doubt your opponent even know how to setup a blog. Signs of a sour grape. Keep up the good works, we need people like you.The last 4 years has shaped my non-political views into political views and I am doing it for the future. We cant let this hypocrite PM and his equally hypocrite SIL continue to run this country, they are just not qualified.Mahatir made a big mistake, lets help him correct it for some of the good things he has done for this country.

Q&A with the man touted to be the first blogger to become an MP
‘A BLOGGER HAS GOT TO DO WHAT HE HAS TO DO’
AHIRUDIN ATTAN
BLOGGER Jeff Ooi, 52, may be contesting in his first general election, but he’s far more well-known than more seasoned politicians.
In fact, the opposition Democratic Action Party candidate and former business intelligence analyst is expected to win the Jelutong seat in Penang comfortably on March 8 and make Malaysian history as the first blogger to become an MP.
my paper spoke to Mr Ooi in Penang yesterday after the launch of his first book, i-Witness, to raise funds for his campaign.
Hi Jeff, 10 days to go to the polls. Any regrets?
No regrets. A man, I mean a blogger, has got to do what he has to do.
You quit Gerakan to join the DAP last year. What made you?
I despise Barisan Nasional’s (BN) race-based politics. Gerakan, a multiracial political party, is endorsing BN’s race-based ideology. I quit as I can’t agree with this. True enough, Gerakan is fielding no non-Chinese candidates in the election.
And the DAP has no problem with that?
No problem, The leadership courted me when I was still with Gerakan.
You are a Kedah native contesting in Penang. Should that be an issue?
Not an issue now, As Chia Kwang Chye, Lee Kah Chun and Teng Hock Nam are born in Penang. No double standards please.
What is Jelutong like – the people, the issues?
It’s an ageing constituency as only 15.7 per cent of the people are below 35 years old. Jelutong has been punished by BN while it was in opposition hands. It needs to catch up with development and better quality of life. Bread and butter issues reign high. There are strong ill feelings against inequitable distribution of national wealth. Now that the cost of living has gone up, unhappiness is fermenting.
Jelutong strongman and DAP chairman Karpal Singh paved the way for you to contest in Jelutong. What’s the party’s strategy?
Checks and balances to BN. People feel cheated for voting in BN with a 91 per cent majority in 2004.
How do you see yourself stepping into Karpal's shoes?
I am a blogger who speaks good Malay, can bring up people’s agenda in the Parliament that BN candidates can’t and dare not.
If you get into Parliament, what will you be fighting for?
Say no to race-based politics. Legislate to ban race-based political parties.
Will you promote blogging? Will you have time to blog?
I will blog live in the parliament.
What if you lose the election?
Go back to blogging, and shout outside the Parliament.

virtual or not, most elected reps can mostly be 'felt' from nomination day to polling day. also, sincerity can be faked. wolf in sheep's clothing. don't judge a man by his words alone but also by his works.

Jeff,
Based on the voters' demographic in Jelutong, they may not be internet-savvy, but I'm sure you can still put one up on your opponent with what you've achieved in your blogs.
Print out the valuable blog posts and showcase them to the good people in Jelutong. Show them even being a mere blogger, you've raised so many issues with regards to ICT as well as political matters. Certain issues may not interest them, but some others like the SMS scams will show how much you've done for the people just from your blog alone. And ask them to imagine what more can you do if you're elected to the Parliament :)
Oh yeah, can always throw back at your opponent asking him to list down what he's done for the people thus far ;)
All the best!

Jeff, you have my full support. I wish I could vote for you, but as I am not from Jelutong, I will support your fellow party member where I am staying. This would be my first time voting, cannot tahan BN's litany of rubbish anymore. I am voting for CHANGE!

Jeff's opponent was municipal counciler and branch chairman for gerkan in balik pulau district in penang.
he is perfect candidate who will help you to clean the clogged drains, malfunctioning street lights and attend to funerals.
he however is not the right candidate to be a policy maker
so Dr Thor you can stay put in Penang and please do what you are best for .. the city councilor ...
