Microsoft buys Yahoo?

Big news!

Microsoft Corp. just made an unsolicited US$44.6 billion offer for Yahoo! Inc. to challenge Google Inc.'s dominance in Internet search services and advertising.

The bid, announced by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, is seen as the biggest-ever technology takeover.

Microsoft had failed to compete with Google in a market that may almost double to US$80 billion by 2010. Google's growth has outstripped the pace set by Microsoft in every quarter since Google's 2004 IPO.

Google is also my search engine since 1999. Too bad I own no shares in it.
