RUNNING AGAINST KOH TSU KOON?
The Star said I will be standing for the Jelutung parliament seat while the vernacular press in Penang say Chief Minister Koh Tsu Koon will also stand in the same constituency.
If both reports are true, I will, again, be the David versus the Goliath.
There are 7 Parliament seats allocated to DAP and four are incumbents, three yet-to-win seats are Jelutung, Bukit Bendera and Batu Kawan -- all retained by Gerakan during GE2004 -- and I have been proposed to run in one of them.
The fact is, there is practically no safe seat for the Opposition in Penang. What more, Bukit Bendera is the 1-Parliament-4-state seat and a star-studded BN stronghold now represented by the deputy Minister of Information, the Penang Chief Minister, the senior State Exco and the deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, plus a one-term state assemblyman.
But the call of national duty is definitely prompting me. I need to do what I wanted to do in JEFF 4 MALAYSIA campaign, and I have made some details here, to explain the mission. The state Election Manifesto, which I helped draft, will be release at the right time. I am certain that talk is cheap and beyond being a blogger, I need a legislator role to speak up for Malaysians!
After weeks of rigorous groundwork, I also find myself very vulnerable facing this General Election. The BN machinery, with $$$ to throw, is immensely formidable.
If you could help me raise some campaign funds, and do it superfast, please email me at jeff001 @ jeffooi.com.
Let me have your mobile number, I will call back and give you the details through my exclusive data line: 6012-2944907.
A Screenshots reader has also helped create a widget for PayPal donations, using my existing PayPal account.
Election Commission allows a maximum expenditure of RM200,000, for Parliament seat. I am targetting at raising half of the amount from donors at large and the other half from internal resources. A little few hundreds from here and there will do the job.
The money will go into running the operations centre and polling machinery, printing and disseminating of election collaterals (including candidates' flyers and pamphlets running by tens of thousands) and feeding the army little troop of volunteers who will take leave, drop all tools, to help me.
To all who donate -- no amount is too small -- I will reciprocate your support each with an autographed copy of my book: i-Witness.

It's a compilation of my articles from 2002 to 2007 about Knowledge-based Economy, and about how to transform Penang's economic model in the context of K-economy. It will be released on Nomination Day, February 24.
Please forward this blog entry to your friends and pass the word around. Thanks.

Jeff, if David can beat Goliath, so can you. Who the hell is Koh Tsu Koon?
If the people really want a change and deny the BN of its 2/3 majority, they will vote for you! Hell, if I am able to, I will also be confident to stand against Abdullah Badawi and Khairy! Go for it and may the people be with you!

All the best Jeff. Altho' you face an uphill battle, walking backwards, you never know. If Penangites are well informed, then they should vote for the opposition. When the opposition has a very strong voice in Parliament, then the BN goondoos will know what democracy is all about.
Malaysia......macam-macam ada!

Sounds like the local version of 'Tom and Jerry' is in the making, only to be called 'KOH and JEFFrey'.
Well, we know the storyline of Tom and Jerry pretty well.
Who's going to win?
Any safe bet?
Nevertheless, all my best to you, Jeff.

We really need you in our parliament, Jeff!!! Penangites please lend your support.
To tomatoinc:
Don't you think DAP has been 'Malaysia centric' for a long while now (at least since my political awareness was raised more than a decade ago). The only thing is that it unfortunately is still perceived as only fighting for the chinese.

Hi Jeff. I'm with an opposition party - one that stands for similar causes - from a friendly fellow ASEAN neighbor. Glad to see another social democrat standing up, fighting for democracy, accountability, transparency, equality, social and economic justice - cornerstone principles of social democratic parties the world over. I believe some of my colleagues have contacted you and the DAP over the weekend. We will be heading over on 2 Mar. All the best for the polls Jeff.

Jeff,
Why contest against a semi-corrupt chinese and not go out against a very goddammn corrupt [ DELETED ]?
JEFF OOI says: I stand on the ticket of a political party registered with the authorities. So, I can go to a constituency allocated to my party. That's the ground rule.
my personal opinion is to try reduce BN's majority 1st rather than go for an ego trip, splashing out $$$, ie, u goliath, your opponent should be somewhat known to general public. i think going against KSK, is like taking the better out of two bests! why lar...
we need more representation in the parliment!
will donate anyway.

Jeff, you should stick to blogging instead of joining the racket and getting into Parliament. Politics, as Dr Samuel Johnson observed, is the last resort for the scoundrels. Some may ask, but why not the first?
Politics is the art of the devil!
JEFF OOI says; Absolutely. Talk is always cheap.

'First past the post' system a mockery
Instead of talking about electoral reform, everyone should focus on pre-election rigging which has been going on since independence.
For starters, the ruling party does very well every ten years after the delineation of electoral boundaries. This is an opportunity for the powers to be to disperse the opposition votes while carving out even more seats in their favour. That's how they were able to almost claw their way back to power in Kelantan. It's a numbers game.
Next, comes the so-called Barisan Nasional concept which is nothing more than circumscribing the electoral process by endorsing elite power-sharing and denying the grassroots majority meaningful participation in the democratic process. The formation of such coalitions should be banned by law.
Thirdly, the ‘first past the post’ system denies the minority the right to be heard and makes a mockery of democracy. Democracy, in its very essence, means the right of the minority to be heard. Here, we have a system where the BN gets 64 percent of the votes but picks up 85 percent of the seats. This should be stopped.
The BN will continue with its gerrymandering of the electoral boundaries until the day comes when no matter how it carves up the seats, it will still lose. That will be the end of the BN. That happened in India where the Congress lost power after 50 years. Today, the Congress is back in power after a spell in the political wilderness but only by forging a coalition with other parties. They have a razor thin majority in Parliament and are not in power in many of the states. Never again will the Congress be able to rule India alone as it did in the past.
The Election Commission also has a dubious reputation and more often than not conveys the impression that it functions as a branch of the BN. How clean are the electoral rolls? Are illegal immigrants with bogus Malaysian MyKads on the rolls, especially in the marginal seats? The addition of a couple of hundred of such votes can make all the difference in these seats. The way the EC chairman carries himself in public makes one want to puke. The smirk on his face! Shaking his head cynically and childishly. So personal and offensive. Obnoxious and overbearing. Confrontationist and defensive. The wonder is that he has been retained.
The BN also commandeers all forms of public transportation to ferry its supporters to the polling stations. The opposition supporters have to come on their own. This is a big area of weakness for the opposition. The opposition must also likewise ferry their supporters to the polling stations throughout the day. They can use private vehicles. They should also get their supporters to register as voters and turn out as well.
Finally, the use of the government media and government servants for campaigning, beginning the campaign a month before the actual campaign under such guises as pemimpin bersama rakyat and other scams and handing out election goodies with public money is nothing more than electoral fraud.
This election will be interesting in more ways than one. How will the young vote? What will be the voter turnout? A high voter turnout will be bad for the ruling party. Which way will the Indian, Orang Asli, Dayak and KadazanDusunMurut votes go? These communities now just play a token role in government. They are there for window dressing.
If they vote for the BN, they will continue to be taken for granted by the BN. They are only worth a paint job for a Tamil school, a promise not to demolish temples, a promise to ensure that the cops will not beat up Tamil youths so often, a new roof over the Sikh temple etc when elections are here. If they vote for the opposition, the BN will have to do something for these communities to win them back or risk losing power at some future date.

The Chinese always get their politics and relationships right. They are the most matured political community in Malaysia. You cant bullshit a Chinaman even once. They are too practical. That's why Chinese political parties, especially those in Government, are forced to be as democratic as possible. This is not the case in other political parties in Malaysia. A Samy Vellu would not last even one minute in a Chinese political party in Government. They would not tolerate their intelligence being insulted. Indians, like the KadazanDusunMuruts to a certain extent, and the Orang Asli, Dayaks and Sarawak Malays, tend to have a slave mentality and put up with lots of nonsense until pushed into a corner. The younger Indian voters may see things differently.
Chinese BN candidates will only win their seats if they hold Government posts. Even this is not sure. The same goes for BN Indian candidates on paper.
A BN Indian or Chinese candidate cannot be expected to do much if he or she doesn't hold a Government post. Even those who hold Government posts sometimes cant do much because the Civil Service is largely Malay and would sabotage any non-Malay effort on behalf of non-Malays.
The failure of Samy Vellu, for example, is largely due to the Malay-dominated Civil Service. They sit on the required funds and only release them in drips and drabs when forced to do so and they have no choice. A Tamil school, for example, has to leak buckets before it gets a few hundred dollars to patch the roof with some bitumen gum. By that time, the children would be reduced to standing in one corner to escape the pouring rain. The Umno-dominated BN has forfeited its moral right to govern the non-Malays in the same way as Belgrade in Serbia has forfeited its moral right to govern Kosovo and in the same way that KL forfeited its moral right to govern Singapore.
The Malay Civil Servant is a squatter on non-Malays and a professional frustrater. What we have is a Malay Civil Service, not a Malaysian Civil Service.
Similarly, the Malay police lacks credibility. What we have is a Malay police, not a Malaysian police.
The Judiciary is also a Malay Judiciary. Hence, their bending over backwards to accommodate Syariah law at the expense of the non-Malays, non-Muslims and the secular Federal Constitution because they are afraid they would go to hell otherwise, when they die.
The Malays are a nation within a nation. Hence, they have hijacked the Malaysian nation, despite forming only 60.4 per cent of the population, and we no longer have a Malaysian nation. The Malaysian nation has ceased to exist as the Malay nation, a sub-culture, has overwhelmed and hijacked the Malaysian nation.
Don't worry too much about heaven or hell. We will know when we get there. Meanwhile, live for others so that your miserable existence on Earth has some meaning, sense and purpose. Make a difference. Help reduce the suffering of others. Decide whether you are going to be a blessing or a curse. Don't waste your life going around in circles.

Anyone can be in the Federal Cabinet, not just BN. Even you.
Badawi should appoint at least three non-politicians – professionals, technocrats, academicians and intellectuals -- as full Federal Cabinet Ministers including two Ministers in the PM’s Dept.
Badawi should also appoint at least three Ministers from the Opposition to the Federal Cabinet.
One of the blogger MPs from the Opposition should be made Information Minister.
One MP from PAS should be made Minister in the PM’s Dept and be put in charge of religious affairs, not just Islam.
Another Opposition MP should be made Minister in the PM’s Dept and be responsible for the National Unity Department.
Taib of Sarawak and Pairin of Sabah should be brought to the Federal Cabinet. Otherwise, these two states will fall to the Opposition in the next elections. We have the examples of Wan Mokhtar and Samy Vellu before us.
I doubt Badawi will do any of the above because he’s a political moron. He doesn’t know where politics ends and good government begins. If he was smart, he would not have locked up Hindraf leaders under the ISA just before the polls. Instead, he would have met with them and defused the situation. Not say he has big ears and then tell them to go and see Samy Vellu.
BN used to be a winners’ club because it would accept any winning Opposition candidate after the polls. This policy eventually destroyed the Opposition because people subsequently refused to vote for the Opposition on the grounds that they would defect to the BN after winning.
Today, BN has become a losers’ club because it refuses to accept winning Opposition candidates on the sacred grounds that they went against the holy BN. This is what is called getting carried away by your own political bullshit. This is political suicide.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has no qualms about accepting winning BN candidates into its fold. This is likely to happen in the five Opposition-ruled states and Kuala Lumpur because BN candidates have an insatiable appetite for “development projects” to finance their lifestyle.
If 30 MPs from BN, ten each from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak cross over to the Opposition Alliance, they would take over the reins of the Federal Government if the King refuses to consent to fresh elections.
