After Nomination Day
Oriental Daily News, which has yet to get its printing and publication licenses renewed, has 'voluntarily' adopted this editorial policy:
After February 24 (Nomination Day), the news weightage for the caretaker Government and the Opposition will be 65% vs 35%.
Nanyang Siang Pau is to follow suit.
Hidup demokrasi!

They didn't say they cannot refer the "exciting" news to blogs. Why not just put a print on top of the front page saying "政治课题请浏览博客站http://www.jeffooi.com/".
Save their ass, right?

One would think that if the present government is really concerned about delivering the best interests of the voters, it should allow more latitude to the media to voice the concerns and gripes of the voters.
After all, govts are made of people too, and if the populace have complaints, it means govts have not delivered, and in the long run, even if within the period between elections, that will mean they, the govt people, will suffer too from bad policies and poor implementations.
In other words, the ratio should be reversed: caretaker govt: 35% and Opposition: 65%.
It is precisely because of personal interest and arrogance that they should defend their turf at all costs which causes the ratio to be maintained the other way.
How does this serve the final and true remit of democracy? How does this serve for truths to come out long buried by bureaucratic deception? How does this serve Malaysia the nation, as opposed to Malaysia, the domain of Umno?
Clear enough, again?
