S.H.E.
Life's Good for Malaysians!
It was a sellout crowd of over 15,000 people at Stadium Merdeka last night. Taiwan's girl-band S.H.E. were in town for their last-leg of 10-city 移動城堡演唱會 Asian Tour.
For the sake of our daughter, my wife and I stood out like sore thumbs among the lightsabre -waving teeny boppers.
But for the sake of our daughter, we did what parents do and swayed along with the music though we don't really know the repertoire.

Opening act... (from l-to-r) Selina, Hebe and Ella

Selina

Hebe

Ella

Hebe with boy-band Fahrenheit (four minus one).

Don't forget. S.H.E.'s fans from Singapore also contributed to our economy.

In between shoot a young chief inspector walked up to me, telling me smilingly that he reads my blog everyday. I told him jokingly, when police start to read my blog, I'm in trouble. He gave me the human side of young, educated people in uniform. Polite, courteous, warm, well-informed.
The S.H.E. concert was hosted by LG Mobile, Thanks for the tickets, folks. I thoroughly enjoyed the concert, the photoshoot and the hospitality.
More S.H.E. pictures in LensaMalaysia.
I said it yesterday. The year is drawing to an end. I intend to make this the month of feeling good... if I may.
Comments
Jeff, interesting captures.
I didn't know that you were a fan of S.H.E. ;)
JEFF OOI says: Hehehe, not me. But my daughter is a fan though.
I can tell that the fans were pretty excited seeing that they were gyrating so fast!

Yes please, let's have December as a month of good news, happy events and smiling faces.
We've had enough downs in the past 11 months.
I thought Whitney Houston would have been more your thing Jeff :) I was there last night at LnL - fantastic show.
JEFF OOI says: While I doubt Whitney Houston can fetch the same high pitch she used to, I had to do a father's round for my daughter's sake. ;-)

Great shots you have Jeff!
How did you pull them in? Any flash used? And were you on the front row?
JEFF OOI says: Thanks. I used a F/2.8 70-200mm telezoom. Some pictures were taken with flash, some without, depending on the the stage lighting. As I was about 100 feet away from the stage, so the flash is beyond its ideal throwing distance of 35~70 feet. In fact, the tiny flashgun is useless and incapable of overpowering the immense stagelight when it comes to illumination purposes. However, I did use the flash to "fool" the metering on the camera to induce subtle lighting for slower exposure of 1/60 seconds -- in addition to playing with a combination of the ISO and EV settings to take advantage of the intense stage lighting. Rule of thumb is to shoot 1-stop under, but since I need the F/2.8 to blur out the background -- getting as much subtlety of Depth-of-Field as possible -- so I maximised on the negative EV to prevent washouts. Also, I set White Balance to Tungsten (Incandescent) instead of Automatic preset to secure true skin tone of the artistes. Hope that helps. :-)

Jeff go manual... ;)
that's pretty good shots at 1/60 handheld @ (i'd assume) 150+mm..
Also.. shoot in RAW and you'd be able to change all the settings later on..
JEFF OOI says: Often times I go manual, but for quick action shots I go auto-focus with manual metering as an option.
Recently, I was caught in a situation in Hong Kong -- nice night scene, but no tripod and no remote trigger. So I improvised by using a rubbish-bin for support to reduce handshake at extended exposure of 3 seconds. Look here!

Hi Jeff,
Great photos!!! I think I saw you that night. Busy taking photos. Think I met u before in some of cmg's events. Anyway, do you happen to have more of Ella's solo photo? Mind sharing? Especially her solo performance. Thanks a lot!
JEFF OOI says: hehehe, you Ella fan? I have some more in Lensamalaysia Forum. Yes, I do have some more unpublished ones on Ella. I had about 300 shots but gave up the pitch because the security guards really spoiled my shooting moods with their conflicting instructions. We should have said hi to each other.

hahahahha...yup! I checked out the other website too...If possible, u mind sending me just 1 or 2 of her solo photos? Might be hard or troublesome, but if u could, I would appreciate it. Oh well, securities are annoying, but can still forgive why are they acting so.
JEFF OOI says: I think I have no less than 30 unpublished photos of Ella n her solos. I will try to publish them on my Flickr, and you can download from there. Perhaps tomorrow or over the weekend if you don't mind..
