Najib VS Badawi in floods

While Abdullah is busy messing up the floods of Hindraf aftermath, Najib is looking for alms for the real flood victims in Malay heartland.

Why are corporates standing on sideline, arms folded?

In my opinion, the Non-Muslims Affairs Department proposal is insipid. Here we are after 50 years of independence and they want to segregate us further down religious lines?

What ever happened to solidarity and unity?

Moral of the story: Religion and Government don't mix.

Flood? Problem? Government need corporates help? You are kidding me right? I don't recall Malaysia tax system having the clause of giving tax break on disaster donation? Do we?

And you can bet disaster relief NGO(minus f*cktard "damai") are all over the flood zone helping the relief works. And politikus will not go there to risk their own life unless there is photography sessions.

By the way, corporate donation is Not Our Cultures(TM). No unless there is mainstream media photography/video shooting sessions. And that is when BN politikus will show up.

IMHO, besides urbanization, excessive palm oil plantation has contribute a major portion of flood. The plantation has destroying the natures rain water absorb compatibility and irrigation system. Are government going to enact law to force the big plantation to take responsibilities to build water catchment ponds? I don't think so. So I don't need a crystal ball to tell you that, from this date on, all Malaysia states are prone to heavy flood, even with normal monsoon rainfalls. And all the rakyat should be grateful for this "yet another BN government project".

;)

Rejoice! the floods are back. for several years, due to some changes in weather patterns, it seemed like the floods in the east coast have vanished. It came back last year, and this year it is back with a vengeance, just like the good old days.
You cannot stop mother nature. So just mellow in and adjust like our ancestors did, by building houses on silts (uncomon nowadays) or even floating houses, anchored to stilts, which moves itself upwards or downwards depending on water level, like what I saw the dutch created for their floods.

Forget about spending billions to control river flow etc. It does not work. It flood even in america and china, despite dykes and dams being built. Local authorites should insist that no development is built in flooded areas and that houses are built according to our ancestors standards.

Hi Everyone,

Lets put our shoulders together, then the burden will not be too heavy.

I was one of the volunteers who in late 2006/early 2007 helped in raising and collecting of some food & other essentials in Klang Valley and arranged with some friends & other volunteers to deliver the goods to those in need. In average, we made about 8 trips, each trip about 10 fully loaded 4x4s & lorries. We operated under the flag of the Malaysian Red Crescent with which we were all registered volunteers but we operated on our own finances down to fuel and breakdown costs. Somehow, the highway authorities showed some compassion by not forcing us to pay the toll charges especially at the areas that were flooded.

Now, a few members have completed some ground surveys to look into the situation at hand but we are working to build up the supplies now, all by word of mouth and via smses so far. MRCS is planning some relief supplies deliveries that may involve us again as I have contacted some MRCS officers on the ground to inform them of our readiness to assist.

One collection centre is situated in Wisma WIM, 7, Jln Hj Abang Openg, Taman Tun Dr Ismail. (Contact : Mr Song @ 012 3988907)

As with last year, we're collecting foodstuff (non-perishable at this point of time) and other goods (baby diapers, clean clothings etc) No cash (Please forward your cash donations to the MRCS, Jalan Ampang)

I will be glad if this message can be freely displayed into other blogs and such. We also welcome corporate sponsors who would like to be present themselves but lack the logistics & planning. We had strong support from Eau Claire mineral water last year, potable water IS an essential commodity in a flooded community, especially for younger children.

Thank you.

sydput, true the weather is affecting the region, not just Malaysia. But why country like Netherland who live under water level for many years seldom has problem with flood? The raising flood seemed not affecting them because they have better system to combat flood. We may not need that advanced system, but at least able to handle the "growing demand" of water.

When the government is taxing people with increased daily cost, yet, not allowing corporate to increase their price... how dare to ask the corporation to donate? Donation come from willingness, and budgeting too. This is also a good sign that many will not vote BN! On the other hand, BN has to "pay" the higher fee to corporate to buy vote... :-)

Jeff: since two years ago, at end-May when Petronas announced its double digit BILLION net profits, I had called on the national oil corporation to set up a Petronas Foundation to fund Malaysians in times of need.

In its recent half-year till September 2007 financial statement, Petronas announced yet another 7 PERCENT rise in profits. The last financial year ended Mrch 2006 showed a RM45.4BILLION net profit.

I don't see any benefits accruing to the common folks., only "feel good" messages diuring festive seasons like HR, Xmas and divali.Hey, stop your fairy-tale propaganda. We the common people which Petronas holds the nation's natural resource in our trust, how about truly gifting back in monetary kind, especially to the annual flood Victims?
OR shat VVVVVVVe stake our claim and seek out "V":endetta, anywan?
"V"eni, "V"di, "V"ici:)

The plight of the rural folks deserves our attention and concern or is it just for the Government alone? The floods at this time of the year is right timing for BN to do their “good deeds”. We can see the DPM rushing back to his Pekan constituency (he nearly loss it once upon a time) now almost completely submerged and more to come on Dec 21st 07 when there will be high tide to compound the flood waters coming downstream.

It is must be very comforting for him to dish out all the necessities including the extras now demanded like "formula milk, sanitary towels and torchlights" (with compliments from the taxpayers) in return for the assured BN votes in the coming GE. Now is the time for BN to be ”all hands on deck”. But where are they?

The floods are everywhere, North, South, East except West Malaysia. The rice bowls in Kedah are affected. More details & pics at
