ISA shopping
The Abdullah Administration has finally gone on ISA shopping.

Five Hindraf leaders were arrested under under Section 8 (1) of the Internal Security Act (ISA) today, Malaysiakini reported at 1:09pm.
The detainees are: P. Uthayakumar, M. Manoharan, R. Kenghadharan, V. Ganabatirau and T. Vasanthakumar.
They will be detained for two years, Inspector-General Police Musa Hassan said in a statement, The Star reported.
Going by past records in Malaysia, ISA epitomizes imprisonment without trial.
Even if Hindraf leaders are no saints, they should be officially charged and tried in open court as democracy dictates.
UPDATES: In the Parliament today, the Ipoh Barat MP, M. Kulasegaran -- who was with me at Suhakam just now -- has been suspended for four days from the Dewan Rakyat.
The Star said Kula was given the boot after he refused to adhere to instructions to sit down by Deputy Speaker Datuk Lim Si Cheng.
Malaysiakini, on the other hand, reported that Kula was arguing that the presence of the Speaker and his deputies in the Dewan was not appropriate when the debate to amend their salaries was ongoing.
The government was in the midst of tabling the Members of the Parliament Remuneration Amendment Bill to amend the remuneration of the Speaker and his deputies.

well, this has definitely not come as a surprise as mentioned in my earlier posting
http://sophiesworld-sophiesworld.blogspot.com/2007/12/sad-day-for-malaysian-indians-part-2.html
there's still a grave need to be completely transparent and precise about the whole ISA process to prevent the water from being muddied further.

I had a feeling in the days leading up to today that it was only a matter of time before the often sleeping PM signs on an ISA detention (pen to paper is bloody rare occasion for him I think) - to condemn his tenure forever to ISA usage whenever ISA is discussed.

PM: They want to destroy the country
Dec 13, 07 4:13pm
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) is attempting to destroy the country with its actions.
(But Mr PM at least Hindraf is only attempting. ARe you and UMNO not well on the way to destroying it already?)
He also slammed those who tarnish the name of Malaysia overseas and described them as people who do not love the country. (But sir, is it not true that everytime any UMNO member opens his mouth to speak he indeed makes the rest of us look stupid? Did you see the AlJazeera interviews with both Nazri and Zam, your Information Minister? Can you imagine sir, assuming Malaysia's best to be in our national leadership than what that speaks of teh rest of us? no wonder FDI's are all passing us by.)
In an obvious reference to Hindraf chairperson P Waythamoorthy, Abdullah said those who solicit support from outsiders are traitors.
(But sir, are the traitors not right here selling out he country by raping it and having complete disregard to the laws of the country? Just ask the close one eyed MP and Zakaria Deros with what contempt they hold the laws of the country?)
"This is a betrayal of our country. Was there ethnic cleansing? There was nothing about wiping out the Indians in the country," he was quoted as saying by Bernama. (Yes sir, you might be right there. But what are your comments on the other "truths that were there in Hindraf's many letters and postings?)
The premier said the people are angry at those who go overseas to seek support and cook up baseless allegations. (What people?)
"Actually they don't love the country, they only hunger for power and don't care about what happens to the country," he added. (And so who loves the country anyway?)
Abdullah said that those who were obsessed with their views did not care about the consequences of their acts. (Just like what you are doing now you mean?)
"We are the ones who have to face everything. We have to defend the peace and well-being of the people," he said. (But then again eveyone who went to the streets were talking only of peace. UMNO and you have been talking about riots and shedding blood more than anyone else).

I expected PM to use ISA on hindraf. Nothing surprise because it's hindraf who gave the BN, the setup to use ISA. I don't think PM will use it on other opposition leaders other than hindraf. That would be suicider move for BN.

It was an easy way out for the Government & especially the AG who was running around chasing for evidence. No Charges, Prosecution, Trial, Bail or Arguments just sign the order and brand them as “traitors” and off they go to Kamunting, Taiping ISA Detention Camp.
A SB was quoted as saying “as a preventive move to halt the group's plans to hold another massive rally soon”. Another unnamed Police officer said Hindraf “stunned the government by bringing more than 10,000 ethnic Indians on to the streets to complain of racial discrimination”

I am just waiting WHEN the AAB administration is going to use the ISA as its final trump card to silence the 'naysayers'.
Can't believe it'll be so soon. Yet, history has proven that shortly after the outbreak of a particularly harmful political situation, the ISA just hovers like a dark cloud waiting to pounce.
