I was told about this by my colleague (Catholic) who has finally left Malaysia to Oz for good two days ago.

It's so sad to hear about having a getting-worsened-in-being-closed-minded government.

The message behind the caveat is that a race is associated with a religion, yet if an englishman in a predominantly christian country can be a muslim, why can't a local be a christian?

How does the condition imposed sync with Syed Albar's contention that this country is a theocratic islamic state?

Does it mean an islamic state requires malays to practise islam only and if the answer is yes, why, and if the answer is no, does it mean 'theocratic' allows anyone to practise any faith, since anyone can also be good in BM which is the basis for the denial of the permit with regards the BM section of the christian publication?

In which case what is an islamic state?

That being our government's action, it's hardly possible now to draw a line between over-protectionism or chauvinism.

And how can one not expect others not to judge you by what you do when you resort to such low tactics and shallow policies?

i will be very disappointed and angry if herald stop publication because you see i contribute a lot of articles to herald. beside being part of my side-income to get my articles published, i am reporting event/activities in penang.

why is the government so scared of us using BM in our publication? as viceice pointed out, isn't BM suppose to be the language of all? by this action, the government, oh read that as our PM is being stupid! telling us they are scared with the use of BM, we might prostlyetsing to them!! oh ye of little faith!

Being an islamic state is one thing, discrimination by religion is another.

I'm no christian, but everyone and every religion should be allowed equal rights and freedom.

Christmas is the celebration of Jesus' birth. Whilst the govt says we hv the freedom of religion I somehow feel that Christmas in Msia has been limited to jingle bells and santa claus. All you hear in shopping malls are these same old tunes. Even on radio you dont the usual carols like Silent Night and carols that proclaim Jesus' birth.

Why? WIll people disintergrate when they listen to such songs?

Good idea. Lets scrap and ban BM! When they gonna shutdown all the BM media? It'll be truly visionary to do away with something so stink with stupid politicking.

I want to comment Irrespective of Race, Religion and Creed

We want to promote a Bangsa Malaysia, Our Children know Bahasa Malaysia better then English because of their education, What is wrong in printing in our National Language so that our Christian Children can better understand and learn Moral and Spritual education and values and be Model Citizens !! ??

Is that not aspirations and requirements of the current and future Generations of Bangsa Malaysians' to move towards Achieving Vision 2020 ?

If the sleepwalking PM just sleep through without stirring up the hornet's nest by his anti-corruption and other anti-others jihad/crusade, then no one would be tempted to open up the floodgates to overwhelm him.

The moral of the story is if one is ineffective as a leader, then one should let sleeping cats lie. Otherwise the roofs of government buildings would fall/leak, crime would rise, temples would be torn down precipitaing the formation of Hindraf and its aftermath, the Lingam tape would be resurfaced etc.

He may go down in history as an ineffective PM who tried to show off his anti- stance which ultimately showed for what he actually is: a reluctant PM who worth-mentioning deed was a remarriage during his tenure.

I think there's a lot of misconception going on in this issue.

First of all I think the correct translation for God in Bahasa Malaysia is 'Tuhan' and not 'Allah'. The former is National language while the latter is an Arabic language. If seriously the 'herald' is meant for reaching it's malays speaking adherents , they should be using the word 'Tuhan'. Even Allah is translated in Malay is known as Tuhan! So 'Allah' is not a Malay word, an arabic indeed!

The only blame that should be directed to the government is on banning the publication, instead the government should tell the publication to change the referrence of "Allah" to Tuhan. When did the Iban and Chinese and Asli catholics who are Malay speaking learned Arab? In Islam the Quran is read in Arabic, hence the referrence Allah is used for God, but Bible is read in English and other language, so a Tamil version of God should be 'kadavul', a Malay version should be 'Tuhan', chinese version??? Maybe Jeff can highlight.

Also I think the referrence to God in the Bible is Yehovah or Jehovah..I think (me not christian) and Jesus spoke the Aramaic language...so why is this fuss on an Arabic word???

Clearly this is a result of small minded people with huge insecurities. Think properly when you vote next year for the sake of this country.
