Wheelchair... 'puki mak' [...] 'God has punished you'
UPDATED VERSION. October 23, The NST journalist who covered the Dewan Rakyat beat reported that Member of Parliament Badruddin Amiruldin (BN/Umno - Jerai) had taruh-ed fellow MP, wheelchair-bound Karpal Singh (DAP - Bukit Glugor) kaw kaw and chialat:
Now you are sitting in a wheel chair. God has punished you (Tuhan qada kepada dia)."
Unfazed, Karpal said his wheelchair "status" was temporary.
Badruddin -- who must have just completed his one month of soul-cleansing and accomplished the holy Ramadan, and obviously in the Hari Raya mood of maaf zahir dan batin -- was reacting to Karpal's speech, in which the Opposition MP remarked that there was little hope of seeing courtesy and good manners in the august house of Parliament.
Apparently, MP Badruddin had used the word 'puki mak' in the Dewan Rakyat and got away with it (see Hansard DR-22102007, pages 43-45).

Today, The NST followed up with a story collecting responses from the public.

Peter Tan in Seoul... Picture courtesy The Digital Awakening
Blogger Peter Tan, a wheelchaired person and a volunteer for Independent Living Programme for People with Disabilities Kuala Lumpur, offered his views:
AS a wheelchair user for the last 23 years, I am absolutely upset with Jerai member of parliament Datuk Badruddin Amiruldin for telling fellow-MP Karpal Singh that the latter's use of a wheelchair is a punishment from God
Badruddin's remark is an affront to all wheelchair users, implying that our condition is a punishment and that we are all sinners.
Representatives from the Society of the Orthopaedically Disabled Malaysia and the Malaysian Spinal Injuries Association also spoke up to criticise that I'm-No MP.
They want the MP, who is also the deputy speaker for Umno general assembly, retract his insensitive statement.
Let's see if Malaysians are having their opinions wheelchaired too -- and take it as a punishment from God?
Comments
If MP for Jerai's brain has to walk, it certainly needs a wheel-chair.

It just goes to show how insensitive these UMNO people are. How can anyone vote them as representatives of the public?
Like many of the UMNO leaders, Badruddin has time and time again shown the ugly side of him not to mention the many seditious and racist remarks he have made in the past. He has no remorse and is totally insensitive to others. He is the personification of UMNO. I would not want such a character to be my MP.

I think you guys are being unfair to Badaruddin. He is only saing these things as they are in keeping with his character and that is all that he knows. It is like as if you guys expect a frog to sing like Luciano Pavarotti. A frog croaks. And that is all that this frog is doing. When a frog croaks you just live with it. Or you could go out and crush it.
But fact is there is a majority in his constituency who will continue to vote him in because they like frogs croaking. Unlike you lot here expecting the frog to sing like Pavarotti.

Badawi should lambast Badri for that remark, even if it was made against an Opposition leader, otherwise not just the Opposition but all malaysians and foreign residents will think the ruling party is made up of kurang ajar members.
But then again, Badawi didn't lambast his son-in-law for racist remarks against fellow component parties so why will anyone expect a higher calling to do the right thing even after Ramadan?
Let me terang-terang make one too:
Almost all the problems of Malaysia are caused by THEM.
Not only inept, unproductive and inefficient but also stupid, corrupt, racial and hypocritical. And they have the nerve to invoke the name of God.
In any other more progressive country, the entire lot would have been fired.
In some countries, that IS meant literally.

These putras got so used to living on crutches for so long one day they will need wheel chairs.
So said the PM.
So I suggest Jerai not to laugh at people so soon others will have the last laugh.

Should we wait for the PM?..even if he wakes up from slumber what has he done to show that he has what it takes to reprimand his colleagues in UMNO, if they do wrong..let's start with a few..
1 kris wielding "supremo"
2 one eyed Jasin
3 Sultan of Pandamaran
4 Leaking bocor minister...
and many more. To me he looks like a lame duck marionette..and somebody is pulling the strings.

Whether the statement is made solely aimed at Karpal or not, Bad ruddin should not have uttered such a remark. It is not racist nor it is religous but more of trying to degrade and sentenced a person for his inability (either permanent or temporary, to walk unaided.
If he can say so to a wheelchair bound person, he can also do so to other handicapped people.
His should not only retract his statement publicly but he should serve some hours doing community service for the handicapped.
Bad bad ruddin should withdraw himself from public office as he has hurt many parties before, not once but numeruous times...
Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

my bad of accusing ramli ngah, excerpt from "penyata rasmi" - the good part:
Dato' Paduka Haji Badruddin bin Amiruldin [Jerai]: Penjelasan Yang Berhormat, Yang Berhormat panggil orang binatang, lembu, bodoh, Yang Berhormat ingat tidak?
Menghina orang Melayu,
Tuan R. Karpal Singh [Bukit Gelugor]: Duduk, duduk.
Jerai. Ya.
NST translation in English using words quite harsh ... or maybe they have censored the hansard ....

Aafter some bruhah, Sharizat will come out condeming the remark 'sekeras-kerasnya'.
Then Badrul will apologize to all those in wheelchair but not to Karpal. His Umno division will declare Badrul a Hero for speaking up in Parliment.
Then Pak Lah and Najib will come out and say no need to prolong issue. Semua sudah selesai.
Sounds familiar.
Remember the 'bocor' issue. Same script.

The stupid Jerai MP is trying to play again on the racial and religious tune to justify his unbecoming statement about Karpal Singh.
Of course we can see that the Jerai guy is not taken to task. Goes to show that things are unfair even in Parlimen. Vote for more opposition in Parlimen.

What shit. Now matter how you hate a person, please have some pity on those who are less fortunate or had bad accidents which has made them immobile.
and BN Jerai double that to you...you know you came from there. I hope you get into a wheel chair soon and then rot in hell!!!

Never ever shower disabled people with pity. All we ask for are that our rights and dignity be respected. Please don't treat us any different from how you treat your friends, neighbours and colleagues. We are human just like you.

What can we expect from a man accustomed to swearing and being a foul mouthed a**hole? The same thing! Year in year out until Pak Lah or the powers-that-be decided they had enough of him and throw him out. Until then let's continue berating him and condemn him to hell...
He probably is in denial but the truth speaks loud and clear: He is responsible for the tarnished image of Dewan Rakyat and importing gutter language to the august house. I'll wait for the time when karma happens to him: one day he'll wake up & realise he can't speak! That would surely make my day indeed.
