Tioman search: Wait for the YB
Johnny's blog is widely circulated in Lowyat.net.
It tells of how relatives of the three passengers missing from the blazing Tioman ferry tragedy were prevented from heading off for the search party just because one YB has yet to show up.
Blogger Johnny's girlfriend was -- and still is -- frantically searching for her brother, Wong Hann Wen, 29.

WTF WTF WTF
Even tragedy is used as publicity tool. Does the idiot wanna pose with the victims' dead body?

why, were they expecting that YB to jump into the water and save the missing?
when someone's in the sea and possibly without a lifevest, seconds count; seconds.
this type of dumbass mentality clearly shows we're finished; politics has feudalised all brains; we're turning into zombieland.

Wait... Check out the spin in The Star...
The Malay woman and the MCA dude are the saviours! The wait for YB was not mentioned but the search by the relatives were delayed because they were using Seagull's boat! Still, it was delayed for 4 good potentially lives saving hours!
Politics can cost lives!

this reminds me of the incident during Katrina where Sean Penn decided to bring a camera crew out on his leaky boat to save more people...
it is definitely a PR stunt, and I guess the YB's presence during the life rescuing efforts would put him ahead in the polls...
better write this in to the papers, Jeff, or somehow get fliers out to the locals there.

they were very very lucky that there was civilian boat passing by, and the tragedy happened daytime. Imagine the headline screams "Ferry sank, 106 dead". Will the entire marine sacked ? Will then the news just appear a nib "small" section in mainstream ? Will the transport minister resign ?

groo,
Have you forgotten that this is bolehland ? where the informant is targeted rather than the wrong-doer? Also, have you forgotten that Zam was quoted as saying our PM do not want to hear the truth?
So, i think the blogger did the right thing as naming the YB means getting himself into trouble. Don't you agree that this is truely malaysia? :)

already can guess who are they, no prize for the answer:
http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/10/17/nation/19195164&sec=nation
the star painted them as hero, championing rakyat, shoulder to cry on, etc etc. i'm quite a bit feel hippocratic here, although this shouldn't be the time to think this. perhaps the ybs are genuinely voicing their concerns here.

Last Taiping bus tragedy, the government put the blame on the bus company for not renewing license and not paying saman. This time, they put blame on boat company as well. They never blame themselves for not doing their job to do enforcement!
Those bus and boat operators can scout free all because of corruption and lazy enforcement.
In Japan, when the bullet train skip the rail, the government is the first to bow down to the people and publicly apologize, follow by resignation of the chief. This never happen to Malaysia.

Well the VIPs are Pahang Family and Women's Development, Culture, Arts and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Maznah Mazlan, Tioman State Assemblyman Rusli Ismail and Mersing MCA division chief Ng See Tiong. They need to be seen in TV media desperately.
For the latest info a body was found and positively identified as Wong Soong Leng, 37. The body was spotted by Pilot DSP Ho Kok Keong of the Police Air Wing at about 10.50 am still clad in a green shirt & dark pants. More details at:
