Judicial Rot: 5,036 of Agong's subjects get their petition delivered

The People's Petition, initiated by prominent human rights lawyer Haris Ibrahim, was submitted at 10.35am to officials representing the Agong, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, today.

The online petition, which carries 5,036 signatures, was to seek the Agong’s intervention in establishing a Royal Commission of Inquiry into scandalous allegations about judicial promotions.

The petition was started on Sept 25 and was initially slated to be delivered yesterday but last-minute kinks, including amending the language of protocol, had to be ironed out.

Meanwhile, Haris emphasised that details of those who had submitted the petition and the Istana officials who accepted it will be safeguarded in "order to protect them".

Read the People's Parliament blog for details.

syabas to haris for initiating this petition.

btw, haris was also the one who initiate the bangsa malaysia forum/get-together in KL in aug. and next week it will be in penang. jeff, hope you will blog about it to help publicise it as, at the time of writing, the response is not so good.

5036 signatures out of a population of more than 20 million is pathetic to say the least.

JEFF OOI says: It's an online petition, so the reach is restricted to those who are online regularly. What's the realistic online population you think it should be?

How can the Agong counter the PM's retort that such a pitiful number does not represent the will of the people? It seems the people of Malaysia have given up on the fight against corruption because the government is unwilling to tackle the big fish.

JEFF OOI says: Given up? Do you think the FEAR FACTOR among Malaysians that we talked about at the ALL-BLOGS FORUM with David Sasaki has a bearing on this?

For example, over one billion ringgit paid to to a so-called defense contractor without supporting documentation and this is no heresay. Where is the outrage from the PM? Bangsa Malaysia forum? Idealistic but it is not going to happen. So I am not surprised by the low response so far.

Birdseye, no wonder you call yourself "birds eye". You see the same 20 million Malaysians. But you don't see the number of Internet users among the 20 millions.

And you see Malaysians working hard to live in Malaysia, but you fail to see the few of them stealing money from us for their benefits.

One more example. The law is designed to protect minority or majority interests?

Look closer. Show your support by sending your Name and IC to savethejudiciary@gmail.com today as the momentum is still going on and pass the word around all your birds friends, relatives, parents, brothers, sisters, children, let them fly everywhere and tell the rest of birds to do the same.

Then you will see a different Malaysia from your birds eyes!

I know many of you who have heard of this Save The Judiciary project and YET didn't do anything about it. It your sin for in-action and your sin to allow our current government to continue doing foolish things right under our nose and still get away.

Patriotic1994,

Well, I have used this site for the past year for stats on internet users worldwide: http://www.internetworldstats.com/surfing.htm Check this out. You would agree the figure of 5036 is pathetic even if you discount the numbers by half.

I admit I'm one of those who did not care enough to sign up and that is because I have given up on this government. I WILL vote the opposition in the next GE. My attitude was also wrong so at your behest I am number 5037.

Finally, I had said: For example, over one billion ringgit paid to to a so-called defense contractor without supporting documentation and this is no heresay. Where is the outrage from the PM? Does this not sound that I am indignant about those few who steal from the rest of us?

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
