Judiciary must be protected

TAKE 1: The government has to set up a Royal Commission with the necessary powers to thoroughly investigate the entire judiciary, as there is a desperate need to clean house and to do so comprehensively, law academic Azmi Sharom said.

TAKE 2: Anwar Ibrahim said at a forum yesterday that the remaining part of the Lingam video clip will be released at “a right time”.

Was the name of Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim explicitly mentioned in the second part of the infamous ‘judicial appointment fixing’ video clip?

According to Malaysiakini, although the PKR supremo did not explain in what context Ahmad Fairuz’s name was brought up in the second part, he however appeared to suggest the revelation will confirm that the person on the other end of the phone conversation was the CJ.

We will see how Haidar's 3-man panel does the job to authenticate the first-part of the released tape.

RAW CUT: Now, go back to read why Azmi Sharom said we need a Royal Commission ultimately.

Singapore Straits Times said Malaysia's Judiciary is on trial again.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Zam says Lawyers shouldn’t hold street protests.

Just because the tape came from Anwar doesn't necessarily mean there's a political agenda from the opposition.

Where the integrity of the Judiciary is concerned, it shouldn't be looked at purely from a political angle nor that it is tainted because it came from what can be labelled the opposition.

After all, if Zam himself isn't expected to know whether or not the tape isn't real, where's the beef to derogate the lawyers who are only clamouring for greater transparency and integrity of their Judiciary?

As minister of information, Zam should initiate a special study on what has been happening to this government. Take each event and roll out an analysis of how the event has unfolded. A simple example: two police helicopters bought for over a hundred million which cannot be used. Who signed off the purchase? Who signed off the training cost? How did the rakyat get to know this? What do the rakyat think of it?

Take that example as E1. Then place E1 in the universe of E'n (n examples).

Then draw some real-time conclusions on where this govt stands in relation to everyone.

Another example: E2: the deputy PAC said questions were asked but the PAC chairman denied it and the finance minister 2 skirted around them. How does Zam think that the rakyat will conclude?

Yet another example: E3: the parliamentary caucus called for figures of foreigners given mykads and citizenship in East Malaysia. The officials called refused to turn up. The MP resigned. Everything is shelved.

Take E3 in the light of what happened when the Selangor MB Toyo said about the scalping of the land: semuanya ok. Add to that illustration how the PK gang of Deros etc. didn't turn up in court, although explanations were only much later provided. Enrich that illustration with the deafening silence of Najib when he was mindef minister vs-a-vs Amin Shah's role in the Lumut naval boats contract, or that of Hishamuddin when he was sports minister re: the 50 ringgit carjacks bought for 5,000.

And once Zam reaches E'n, he should ask himself not as the info minister but as a former journalist and father of children why the ACA took 2 years to haul up the officer with an 8 million kitty, and he should ask that question from the angle of the rakyat: isn't the timing too coincidentally convenient - that it took place when a barbaric crime was committed, the PKFZ issue and the Auditor-General's report and so many other things were out? In other words, how are the rakyat not to conclude that this govt is trying to deflect attention and to defocus the rakyat by strategically releasing pressure at appropriate time?

And not doing all that must be done when they should be done?

In other words, Zam should ask himself whether his govt is protecting its own against the full interest of the rakyat, and if yes, why, and if not, why not, for completeness sake.

Buka puasa has many meanings, one of which the reaffirmation to the Almighty that one will be completely honest in every way, for it is not things of this world which will finally matter.

This us-vs-them mentality consistently shown by this govt shows that they're not reading the rakyat correctly. If that's the case, why should anyone continue to vote for them?

Clear enough?

anwar and his friends said many years ago that they will reveal a whole list of corrupted politicians and govenrment official. That of course did not happened. maybe its some kind of scare tactics deployed by anwar in this kind of situation.

I get annoyed when singapore straits times is quoted. this paper never print anything good about malaysia. only bad ones. compare that to malaysian print media who never bother to write anything about singapore, good or bad.

As I said before, PAP means pay and pay to singaporeans. even the internet edition of the straits times you have to subscribe. So Jeff has decided to contribute to a newspaper with a history of bad mouthing its neigbours.

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
