BBC HardTalk: Syed Hamid grilled?
Did you watch HardTalk on BBC World (Astro Channel 93) last night?

Some say Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar was questioned and grilled over issues related to the rights of Indian-Malaysians and non-Malays, and their rights in choosing religions.
While others say the Albar son is exemplary Malaysian government leader -- rude, arrogant, condescending and in denial.
The clip is now uploaded on BBC portal, here:

You watch and you decide. Repeat is at 10.30pm tonight. I will try to catch it.
UPDATES: Wahlau's Online Hut has part of the transcript.

Albar says that we should not see Malaysia as a racist country.
He is absolutely wrong! Malaysians in general is not racist. The majority of politicians are.

very soon there may be a world wide trade embargo imposed in malaysia, just like south africa dring apartheid.
unlike south africa, in which us and uk more or less ignored the un decree, malaysian do not have brother countries to depend on.
when will the nelson mandela of malaysia emerge?

hmm... typical of Malaysian politician to say: "you are not Malaysian, don't comment!"
And to think that this is the level of intellect possessed by a leader of the country!
Syed was very defensive throughout and basically delivered the standard cop-out lines like we are happy, we have made progress blah blah blah. Notice how he tried to side step the issue of top ministry posts all held by Malays since 1973. LOL

Sarah Montague is not conversant with the subject matter, and keeps on referring to her notes, and let lots of bullshit answer through.
Albar's answers are standard gov/UMNO taglines, which can be shot to shreds if Sarah knows the full facts.
Eg, justification for the Malay previleges being Malay poverty, well, then help ALL poor people, and if Malays are indeed the bulk of the poor, they will benefit the most.
And the bullshit about Lina Joy's case being "name change", we all know it is NOT name change but to erase the "muslim" tag from her IC, but Sarah swallowed that hook line and sinker!

He said I'm a Malaysian. Didn't UMNO Johor pass a resolution, there is no such thing as a Malaysian and Syed is key leader is Johor.
Syed at times was not speaking on what is the real situation on the ground.very defensive but using some poor responses.

Yeah, Syed Hamid's performance was pathetic. But then again, it was near impossible for him to defend the indefensible. Deep down I think he knows those allegations hurled at him by Sarah Montague is true and you see this reflected in the few times he was stammering and groping for replies. I particularly liked the question that there has been no senior non bumi ministers since 1973. He was completely caught out and desperately tried to worm his way out by countering with the question to Sarah to define "senior". And his explanation on Lina Joy and the Indian convert's cases completely fell flat. He shouldn't have appeared on BBC with such a insipid performance. Buang Malu saja.
