On the knees

Oriental Daily News frontpaged a thought-provoking picture today. It shows feudalism, much in the same way as the ancient Chinese dynasty, is very much alive in the days of democracy.

The same photo was licensed by theSun on its frontpage today

An elderly man in Rawang has to kneel in front of the state exco from BN(MCA) -- who is much younger as the Yang Berhormat -- to beg him to get things done.

My Lord!

I pity the elderly man. Its an act of extreme desperation. No one should do that especially to a stranger and younger person.

God can't help people who REFUSE To help themselves.

The same truth stand for a Buddhist, Taoist, etc.

A wakil rakyat post is not a privilege. It is a huge responsibility where one is elected to serve. It should be the other way around!!!

Come to think of it, whenever there is a function, we tend to invite the so called "VIP". We arrange good comfortable chairs, food, VIP table for them whereas for the rakyat, just plastic chairs and packed food and paper cups.

Lets reverse the trend, whenever we call politicians to hear to the rakyat woos, let them experience the same thing their voters endured... sure effective one!! ha!ha!

Folks

MCA leaders want Chinese to kneel before them to get things done because the MCA leaders knelt before UMNO to plead to get things done for the Chinese.

No surprise there!!!

A fitting photo to cap the forthcoming celebrations.

Both Menglembu Lim and the TNB chairman should surface to answer how close to homes power pylons can be laid before they distress these old folks further.

Maybe they should try to do the same near any Umno bigwig's bungalow to get the drift of things first.

Putting power cables near homes delivers more than electricity: they nosedive property prices and they increase health risks.

How did we come to this as a nation where a senior citizen has to kneel in despair in public before an assemblyman in order to beg for some compassion to save the place where he stays?

A lot of things happen where the common folks are denied affordable legal avenues to be represented before events take place.

All this wouldn't happen if town planning is done better with the dwellers in mind, foremost.

You don't make compulsory acquisitions at agro-prices in order to convert the land to commercial property at inflated prices and then find that you will need to lay utilities across intervening spaces in order to realize hefty returns...and then say that's "progress".

Does anyone think that those poor old men would have sunk their life savings into that place if they had known Tenaga would come a-calling one day?

When we have a situation like this, what can a thousand assemblymen do?

You want a system? Have that picture stickied as a result of how well it's running.

Into the ground.

..and that's what they should be doing; if they talk about putting the johor-sg link into the sea, why not power cables?

There must be some structural and cable engineers in TNB who can think this out. There's a reason why this should be assayed, at the least - the problem is not going to go away.

Mind translate the original article anyone?

"No Master and Slave"

From the picture it is worse than a slave. Just imagine a old man knee in front of some body younger. Correction should be the little emperor.

This is the crap government we have.

Time to reduce their majority.

In the next election no matter who the opposition is, it can be PAS, DAP, Keadilan or Independent, I will vote for them.....

Klonetrooper,

You say "A wakil rakyat post is not a privilege. It is a huge responsibility where one is elected to serve. It should be the other way around!!!"

You said it well this time. But then, how many percent of them you see serve the rakyat? Maybe its just me, but i never see my wakil rakyat except during election! And worse, they act like a yes-man to their master ( we all know who ) :)

This is absolutely outrageous! I reckon that this photo should be widely publicised during the election to show that the rakyat need to beg in such a way!

I must say again that this is absolutely outrageous!

This outrageous! No one should knell before a younger person even in sheer desperation.

The role of an MP or a Wakil Rakyat is to serve and not the other way around!

That picture reminds me of an Indian old man clinging to Mr Lee Lam Thye while he was the MP for Bukit Bintang. Only a desperate man will bring themselves to such a low position to somebody whom they deem to be of help.

The saddest, most moving picture I saw today.

Yes, the Chinese votes will swing.

FILIAL PIETY!

Most of those I've talked to who just turned 55. None intended to have their EPF money in EPF anymore.

WE DO NOT TRUST EPF ANYMORE!

What more with the PKFZ fiasco?

Who is going to bear the mistake of RM4.6 billion?

Even if Chan resigns, it will not solve the case.

benkaiser...
outrageous or not....they will demolish the houses or whatever in the way...BUT the authorities will turn a blind eye to the Datok Z castle.

Such is the state of affairs..

Its so true what is said about wakil rakyats here. Its become a coveted position because of the greed of many, and there are those who go after it not to serve the country, but to serve themselves. My granduncle was a wakil rakyat in the 50s and 60s, in Kelantan, he worked as a school teacher locally, stayed locally, and was there amongst his constituents. To him, a Wakil Rakyat is akin to a Tok Penggawa, and he was there to make his kampung folk's life easier. In those days, you still hear of Wakil Rakyats sending those in need to the hospitals at odd hours, just because they had cars, you hardly see them being well off, but nowadays, the wakil rakyats are those who have big cars, big houses, and big egos. One wonders where all the humility went, one wonders...

You know, in these day and age, people think that once a person is elected as Wakil Rakyat, he deserves respect, but this is wrong. We should respect the office of the Wakil Rakyat, not the man, who will have to earn respect the hard way, the proper way, and to make sure he measures up to the honor and respect of the office he now serves in.

Now to touch on the issue of electrical wires. Actually there are several reasons why it is better for electrical wires to be erected above ground. One is ease of maintenance, two, is ease of fault tracing, and three, it is better for corrosion protection of whatever utilities that lie underground. Oh, theres a fourth reason, its cheaper.

As far as I know, there are no conclusive scientific findings to suggest living near transmission lines will bring any adverse effects to health. There are however, lots of contentious issues in this debate, and it is one that probably will go on for a long time. In this case, I can't really fault for TNB in not acknowledging or responding to this, because one, no body has accepted conclusively that there is a health hazard, and two, because there has already been explanations made before by TNB about the lack of impact to health.

It is however a hazard, hence any electrical power lines should have a right of way, an area where it should be free from enroachment. As long as this is clearly defined, and enforcement carried out, TNB is managing their risks to ALARP.

This must be the Asia way of doing things. So, what is the difference with the west and Malaysian's Asian way ? The way I see it is "he would is the most corrupt is the most powerful". Is this the truth in the west. We are following western way.

Knee down on politicians who're supposed to work for us?

Over my dead body.

Kenara Mu, Pak Lah.

disgusting!

disgusting!

Before 50 years of independence [ DELETED ] people was kneeling infront of the dictators....now after 50 years of Independence we are still kneeling....a point to think of by all Malaysians. Malaysia Boleh! Selamat Hari Merdeka.
