SMS Scam: Hidden Agenda & Anti-JeffOoi.com hate-site
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has taken a new meaning in Malaysia!
June 13, after I have uploaded the blog entry: Which PR company?, a new blog sprang to life. It's called www.antijeffooi.com.
That hate site leaves critical digital trail. The virtual hosting server is parked at IP address 69.147.83.154, at a node registered under p11w9.geo.sp1.yahoo.com, which points to the Google/Blogger.com data centre in Sunnyvale, California, USA.

The domain name was registered on June 13. A domain name registrar which provides private registration service was used so as to conceal the identity of the site owner -- an act that deputy minister Shaziman classified as penembak pencuri (sniper).
June 14, I uploaded the blog entry: A PR consultant's moral license, in which I gave a preview of how a PR consultant had gone on slandering this blogger, hoping newspapers editors would listen. I will tell you, in due course, how this journalist-turned-PR-Consultant had accused me for harbouring 'Hidden Agenda' in my lengthy exposé of the SMS Scam.
Four blog entries vilifying this blogger were swiftly uploaded on www.antijeffooi.com soon after my June 14 piece on the unnamed PR company.
You can read for yourselves that all of the blog entries lived up to the promise of antijeffooi.com -- they centred on personal attacks on my person and my family, rather than discussing all the hard facts related to the core issue at hand, the multi-million ringgit SMS Scam!
It's whence the hate site received a COO treatment in onward publicity.
Below is the email broadcast from Henry Goh (picture left), MacroKiosk COO, that was intercepted when it was transmitted to his "fellow friends and partners" yesterday:
From: Henry @ Macro Kiosk [mailto:ch@macrokiosk.com]
Sent: Thursday, June 14, 2007 12:24 PM

Subject: An Exciting Blog that caught my attentionDear Fellow Friends and Partners,
As I am searching through Google, I found this attention grabbing blog by someone called Uncle Rain. An opposite side of Jeff Ooi's stories. You may view this site at
www.antijeffooi.com
I am sure you will enjoy it.
Cheers,
Henry Goh

For authenticity check, the header of Goh's email is published at the bottom of this blog entry.
The said email from Goh was transmitted via a Telekom Malaysia IP address, 60.52.254.118. [ This IP address that Goh used is very revealing! Read on. ] It was then relayed SMTP service provided by fnbs.net.my routing through IP address 202.9.108.194 assigned to Free Net Business Solutions Sdn Bhd, with the registered node, pop-gold.fnbs.net.my.
Interestingly, a Screenshots reader by the nick of 'baba' started to desposit a comment on a May 29 blog entry: SMS-scammed 210 times in 17 days.
The IP address from which the baba commentary was sent is revealingly identical: 60.52.254.118.

SOURCE: Screenshots MovableType System Adminstration Panel
More interestingly, going on the psycho-analytical path, this baba undressed himself further by saying this in the blog entry:
Hi Jeff, wondering who is the content provider that actually Spammed 217? MacroKiosk again?
Anyway just for your benefit and the community at large, AKN MTECH shortcode has been suspended by all mobile operators for guidelines violation today. I was told by some of my friends working in the mobile operators. I even tested using my mobile to their shortcode 32322 and there is no reply. Therefore I believe it is true that they are being suspended.
Looks like your blog is really influential. The moment I highlight my plight of being overcharged by 32322, the shortcode has been suspended.
Thanks a lot Jeff!
It smacks a heavy dose of business rivalry between MacroKiosk and baba's nemesis, AKNMTech (and short code short-code 32322), and other CPs like Zed and MMode etc. And the baba chose to fight them on my turf.
The baba was right. Screenshots reader Jonathan Wong was scammed a total of 210 spams, spanning 17 days from 18:17:58 hr April 24 through 17:55:19hr May 13, 2007 via the faulted short code 32355, by none other than MacroKiosk, of which Henry Goh is its COO.
That baba chose Screenshots as the turf to fight his rival AKNMTECH is obvious. He had come to Screenchots earlier to leave a comment in this blog at 15:59:14hr May 28, 2007. Here's his message:
Hi Jeff, latest complain for you to help me to fight on. Below is the flow of SMS messages from 32322. Even I send STOP as per their instruction, I still get charged.
Sent: ON JOKES
Rcv from 32322: Free SMS. Sila pilih bahasa:JEN inggeris JBM Melayu JAD 18SX Taip ON JEN / ON JBM / on JAD & htr ke 32322. 50sen/sms
Sent: ON JAD
Rcv from 32322: RM0.50/SMS.Your Jokes subscriptn is sucessful. Price: RM0.50/SMS. 1SMS/day. Renewal 27/06/07. To cancel, send STOP JOKES to 32322
Sent: STOP JOKES
Rcv from 32322: RM0.50/SMS.I went to a bookstore and asked the sales woman, "Where is the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
Looking into this, despite I follow their instruction to STOP the jokes service, I still receive it. This is cheating!!!
Please help to highlight another idiot CP around. I will go around and find out other such rogue CPs.
Revealing again, the IP address from which baba shot out his May 28 comment is the same as the one Henry Goh shot out his email to alert his partners about the hate site: www.antijeffooi.com -- 60.52.254.118!

Not WHO is right, rather WHAT is right
Regrettably, despite calling for a press conference on June 11 to blame "technical glitches" and abuse of its external CPs as the reasons why its customers were scammed, sweetened with small refunds, MacroKiosk has to date failed to explain why Jonathan Wong was scammed big time from April 24 through May 13, 2007 via short- code 32366.
Verily, I used a different textbook when it comes to dealing with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In a discourse that separates man from the boys, we are not interested in WHO is right, but rather WHAT is right.
On my part, like always, Screenshots will take the high road, undaunted and don't give a shit. Because pigs like playing in the mud. When you play pigs in the mud, you get dirty and they pigs love it.
Hence, instead of wasting time forwarding the URL of www.antijeffooi.com to his "fellow friends and partners", the MacroKiosk COO might as well do the right thing by upholding WHAT is right and not WHO is right.
Changing for a better, more competent PR consultant might really be a good start.
NEXT: The Henry Goh - baba SMS to Screenshots

You would like to ask: Who is "my friend"? And who "my friend" is pissed with? Coming soon!
I will visit Hall 3C2-01 at CommunicAsia 2007 next week. It's time I get to see how MacroKiosk wows the regional crowd, and I do have media networking in the Little Red Dot to tell me what I don't already know.

The 'hero' behind antijeffooi.com is a nobody (no identity only freelance)
Probably another 'mol' planted by the government.
Something like the 'monsterball' affair?

You live by the sword, you die by the sword.
Doesnt matter if the COO is behind anti jeff blog, all that is important is whether the contents of the blog is true!
JEFF OOI says: Like I said. It matters not WHO is right, but WHAT is right.

Well, Henry Goh really is a Baba (peranakan). Met him sometime before.
But a bit of caution here - it IS possible to pretend to be somebody else on line, with a bit of clever technique.

Have not gone into understading the background story...but feel kind of strange for someone to put "recipient of what what award" under the signature......
Why no SPM how many As, STPM how many As??

I can't imagine how can anyone recommend the antijeffooi site as a site with a different view. The name says it all. I went to the site but there is nothing alternative.
That site contains nothing but hatred and anger. There are no real hard facts. There are no names. I find it unusual for the owner/blogger who claims to provide alternative views under a veil.
If that site really intends on providing an alternative - I will be very happy to read it. But there are no alternative views / rebuttal given to so many of the factual substantiated stories that Jeff Ooi writes.
That site conveniently avoids the real issue - spamming and ripping innocent layman of their money.
I seriously question the IQ and the integrity of anyone recommending such a website.

Oh dear. The hate site referenced a blog entry that I jokingly made about ya from 2 years ago. :(
Sorry Jeff. That entry back then was written in a light-hearted tone, with no malicious intentions whatsoever. I apologise that it is now being picked up by the faceless coward as a weapon to try to discredit you. Sorry.

the two screenshots that show baba's IP. one is on 28th May at 4pm, the other 29th May at 9pm, assuming GMT+0800. whatever the case, both posts are 29 hours apart, but the IP is same. either the guy never logged off his streamyx or it is a static IP. only the enterprise or corporate package of streamyx has static IP [http://www.tm.net.my/html/htm/product_streamyx/to_know.htm]. however, the same IP was used by Goh in the email that we have reason to believe originated from his office, it being a Thursday at noon. and that gives us even more reason to believe that the IP is a fixed one as it is used by MK's office. to prove this, you may wanna ask if tmnet will let you know the real scenario behind the IP. also, the comments made at 4pm and 9pm - are they GMT+0800? =]

Our government said wanted to classify Professional and Unprofessional bloggers. When will that be done? Now we have a very good example to tell Professional (jeffooi) and Unprofessional (antijeffooi). This is a good study case for all!
So now our bloggers must push government to quickly get it up, don't just talk only for the sake of "political" reason. Talk only, no action, is bad to the country.

Dear Jeff,
Well, the anti-jeff is so poorly written - it's hilarious to think that Uncle Rain intends for the blog to be for "academic purposes". Clearly, it's hardly the work of an intellectual.
The language is too poor even for Primary 3. The arguments cannot even hold water in a Secondary School debate. The only thing academic - "example of how to kiss the PM's ass".
Anyone who can enjoy such a blog (eg, Henry) surely has bad taste and err...single digit IQ?
Ah well, I admit that I don't really know the "real" Jeff Ooi, but Uncle Rain definitely sounded more like THE moron, on the balance of probabilities.....

I smiled as I read today's post and it sure reflects the power and influence of your blog to expose the truths. The paper trail is sure exciting to follow~~
This baba person...if I may assume, is the same person as the COO of Makrokiosk who is trying to shift the blame onto another rival. And in a fantastic sequence of revelations, he provided the answers on his own.

cool jeff, just when i thought the grill was over the SMART tunnel due to heavy rain...or even some saucy toppings on Pm's new wife :)
but this is cheery on top of cheery ! i'm pretty used to online gimmicks as i was also doing it back in 1995. secretly telling people stories and bla bla bla..but it was for good fun. we've all forgotten the word "IP" everything is on it now..is our new identity....like how we're branded by just a simple telephone number....and about your site, he did threated to do something to your car..is good enuff case to bring in the big guns
keep it up jeff.....popcorn's warm and show's starting

Jeff, Thanks for your time and effort to expose this scam so tenaciously. The question on my mind is whether those affected by the scam, will be refunded? I had received such smses but do not have itemised billing to verify whether actually cheated. Taken up the matter with Celco, response I get is will check. No action so far. Feel cheated.

Hi Jeff, I just visited the antijeffooi site to see what was written. Alot of air to distract from the crux of issue. We ( i think I and family have been scammed),do not care the awards that they might have received from their business acumens. Bottom line, we unsuspecting celco users been cheated. How are we going to be compensated and they who committed the crime be punished.
