That Shaziman...
I thought Rocky had scooped all mainstream editors and newspapers that made them very paiseh and angry, until my favourite 06:30 deputy minister shot blank and wide again:
"I have not read the report in the blogsite but if there are elements of slander, action can be taken under the Penal Code. This comes under the Internal Security Ministry."
Apparently, Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications Shaziman Abu Mansor, who regarded bloggers as penembak curi (snipers) and wanted them registered, is already pre-conceivedly cock sure that the blogger who "reported that Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi fainted -- or "appeared to be losing balance and almost collapsed" -- at a function" yesterday "could face action including being charged under the Sedition Act if the article contained elements of slander".
That beats Internet speed in meting out a verdict without even having to study the merits of the case. Guilty until proven innocent, here in Malaysia?
That's why TV Smith suddenly wakes up and gives his 2-sen's worth:
"If a horny farmer sleeps with his goat, the Internet will be threatened with censorship, once again. Nevermind the bugger has no PC, let alone broadband." [...]As citizens, we have the right to know and be concerned of the PM's well-being. Instead of timely and factual news from the mainstream media, they waited until some blogs scooped them with some creative reporting. Who gets the blame? Mobile phones? Human beings? Goats?
No, the Internet again.
UPDATES: Today, Rocky scooped the mainstream editors and mainstream media again by reporting that Dr M was admitted into the ICU in Langkawi this afternoon.

Thank God we have the internet where information is spread faster than main stream media. HP6 deputy minister wants to use Sedition Act to charge bloggers. Why not use ISA to detain bloggers for threatening the security of Barisan National? HP6!!!

Jeff and Rocky Bru,
You two abang adik kah? Rocky praised you when you had a scoop recently and now you are reciprocating. This is heartwarming and to be emulated.
Your blogs are giving the MSM a run for their money with your scoops, professionalism as well as speed. Not to mentioned, its free! Soon we will all stop buying newspapers cuz the news are outdated, not to mentioned sanitized, by the time we read them in the mornings.
Keep it up!

Folks
Deputy Minister of Energy, Water and Communications Shaziman Abu Mansor --- another fool who opens his mouth and we get stupidity being spitted out.
Why is it we keep on having Ministers and Deputy Ministers and BN politicians when they open their mouths, it is about either filth, skin-color and class, women are liars and unemployed, smart-alec classifiers of bloggers.
Now we have another Minister who wants to criminalise anyone who report on the state of health of our Prime Minister.
What is wrong with these half-baked Ministers and Govt backbenchers, anyway

Yes, what a scoop Rocky made. Anyway, it's a factual report like Dr M being taken ill, so why is this Shaziman finding it so sensitive that he threatened to slap one act or another on Rocky? Pak Lah was not upset, he made a joke out of it. That the PM criticized bloggers was just the NST reporter's subjective view - probably wanting to curry favour with his bosses.

This young Deputy Minister with his preconceived “punk ideas” about bloggers was shooting off his cuffs again when he made those remarks and he is using his communication portfolio to identify that blogger. How could he label the inaccurate report as “slander”?
As a matter of fact Abdullah admitted he “sat down” (NST) or it can be reported he ‘collapsed back to his chair” when told he was unwell.
But the remarks by the UMNO info chief Taib that bloggers can “destabilize UMNO or the Government” are stretching it too far. Even IF the PM did collapse, those in the corridors of power are only waiting to take over. Maybe bloggers in the future also have the power to stage a "coup d’État".
But to allay the fears he hastily arranged a press conference to state that he is “alive & kicking” after recovering from the heatstroke. For more details and a video clip check it at:

Dear Jeff,
What slander? What bull**** are we talking abt here? Just some blog postings abt Pak Lah feeling unwell and the (dis)honourable minister promptly put his foot in his mouth again. Helloooo? What abt your member fr Kinabatangan n Jasin? Aren't they also even more guilty of insensitive remarks? Double standard indeed! Don't touch our leader but as for the Opposition/Bloggers/NGOs, it's open season time.
It seems our MPs do have enormous egos & will never ever apologise for their wrongdoing even though they knew the statement is insensitive, chauvinistic & downright idiotic. Let's teach them all a lesson next GE and make 'em eat humble pie.

One of these days a blogger may be the one who saves the country by revealing some important information or providing a heads-up life-saving alert.
Will the hon. minister then be agreeable to receive the same of what he's so eager to dish out - be placed on the docks?
Meanwhile would he care to explain what's so slanderous about saying that the head of govt, whom we all care about one way but mostly the other, has had a bout of indisposition? In the absence of quick information broadcast from the other ministry - erh what's its name by the way - wouldn't the interest of the rakyat be served if working alternatives are voluntarily provided? And in these days of rising costs, shouldn't probono acts be welcomed more heartily?
The type of silo, pigeon-holing, thinking that is consistently practised by our ministers should be banned. Malaysia needs holistic, thinking, intelligent, perceptive and warm-hearted rakyat. That sort of thinking only only constraints all to the vegetative state of see-no-evil status-quo; if honesty is practised at the same time, one can accept that. But if honesty has been and continues to be lagging, one cannot accept that.
Aren't these fair and square statements?
Take another holiday, Badawi. It matters not whether you're in, or out, anymore.

There's a world of difference between a person having a "dizzy spell" and a person who has "fainted" or "collapsed".
The blogger, at the very least, could have verified what it was (dizzy spell or fainting) before jumping the gun and posting.
And when the person in question is the PM, there's all the more reason to make sure that the facts, as reported, are corrected.
Did the blogger in question issue a retraction when the facts regarding the PM's dizzy spell were made known?
If not, that is just plain irresponsible - on the part of the blogger.
And let us not forget - blogs (and bloggers) do not operate in a vacuum. At least not where the prime minister of a country is concerned.
