Moron & Oxymoron

Faux pas #1: Bloggers are a threat to national security; they must be registered and categorised as 'Professional Bloggers" and "Unprofessional Bloggers".

Faux pas #2: “Only that number (about 20,000 people) out of the 11 million Internet users in the country are actively involved in political blogs. The political bloggers just write for each other to read; they are not a threat."

You need to differentiate moron from oxymoron.

UPDATES: There are 23 items on Google News -- from People's Daily Online, China Daily to Reuters UK India and Canada, Washington Post, ZD Net and IHT -- that say China is like is likely to back down from plan to register bloggers.

Wikipedia says a moron, in psychological term, refers to a person with a genetically determined mental age between 8 and 12.

I think other faux pas is there are 11 million Internet users in this country. This means almost every other person in this country is an Internet user. I have my doubts even in the urban areas.

Hohoho..spin, spin and spin. First he daubs bloggers as threats to national security, and threatens to have all of them registered or else....Then maybe his 12 year old grandaughter explained to him how difficult it would be to restrict bloggers, short of blocking all excess to Wordpress or Blogspot.
So now his line is Never Mind, they are just a pesky , insignificant little group.
Phew....

Malaysia's Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin is increasingly showing himself to be irrelevant. His self-proclaimed credentials as a journalist committed to his craft, has been debunked a long time ago. Even the mainstream newspapers are fast losing patience with this dinosaur. It is a wonder that he is still in the limelight, hogging precious newspaper space, to spew his dribble against anyone who dares to have an alternative point from the offical government line.

Just weeks after raising the alarm that bloggers are doing immeasurable damage to the nation's unity, Zainuddin now says that political bloggers only make up 20,000 of the 11 million Internet users in the country, and hence only a few people read blogs. Then why is he worried? Why the contradictory stance? Why is UMNO anxious about sites like Malaysiakini, Malaysia-Today, Screenshots? Malaysia-Today claims it gets daily hits of more than 2 million. I am sure that type of figure drowns out any imaginary numbers his TV stations can muster.

China, the rising world power, has been unable to effectively filter the Internet. Zam, as he is more inclined to be called, thinks he can - by shouting threats at an increasingly sophisticated urban populace. He has warned them that their writing is a threat to "national unity". If thinking aloud and producing analysis is a threat to the nation, then one must wonder if he is really talking about bloggers being a threat to UMNO. His McCarthystic behaviour in demonising ordinary citizens who happen to have a point of view about Malaysia is truly disturbing.

Where are we as a nation want to go? Does the government want this country to develop wings and fly or do they want the people to be forever docile, secure in the bosom of UMNO? Even if that means that this country becomes an insecure nation afraid of its own shadows, riven by racial suspicion for eternity?

What I have read about Zam demonstrated an anachronistic world view which swims in Zam's brain. The sad thing is that he is proud of his world view. I suppose when one is in the throes of power, and wishes to please his master, that's what people do. In any case, such behaviour has proven to be well-rewarding for many Ministers in our nation's esteemed cabinet. But I do hope that the Prime Minister loses patience with this Information Minister and drops him in the next Cabinet reshuffle.

I hope Zam keep talking.

I think he is scared shitless.

Folks

As for the Minister of Information, Zainuddin Maidin, whenever he opens his mouth, in an attempt to show his intelligence,
he wavers between an IDIOT at one end of his mouth, to an IDIOTIC FOOL at the end of his mouth.

It cannot get any worse for this Pak Lah Govt, to have someone of his distinguished calibre to be in charge of the nation's information. clearinghouse

He does have a tiny, tiny point: Malaysian bloggers tend to be preaching to the choir.

Blogs replace blackboards as Singapore schools go hi-tech (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/infotech/view_article.php?article_id=67581)

I guess the article, juxtaposed against this latest tirade against blogging/bloggers/blogs, says it all.

Well...this one another example of Moron & Oxymoron.

Pak Lah said ” Bring them on!” and M’sian cabinet eagerly wants them too and heyy.. who is finally having the last laugh. We are definetely been lead by Moron & Oxymoron ministers…

Man U Cannot Play Without AFC Approval, Says Club’s Website

KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Bernama) — English Premier League (EPL) champions Manchester United cannot play the scheduled friendly match in Malaysia on July 27 without the official approval of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), according to the club’s official website.

A news item on the website said this was because of the agreement between the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) with the AFC to act as host for the Asian Cup.

“The club hopes that the issues can be resolved by the relevant parties to ensure that this celebration match can take place as planned,” said the news item.

It said Manchester United has had a series of meetings today with the Youth and Sports Ministry, FAM and AFC, which has its office in Kuala Lumpur, on the planned friendly with a Malaysian selection in Kuala Lumpur on July 27.

Manchester United chief executive officer David Gill and EPL chairman Dave Richards had meetings separately with Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, AFC president Mohamed Hammam and FAM representatives.

However, the outcome was not as expected. FAM is still tied to the agreement to host the Asian Cup 2007 from July 7 to 29.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the Cabinet decided that Manchester United should make the trip to Kuala Lumpur as the club could provide a boost to the country’s 50th anniversary of independence celebration and Visit Malaysia Year 2007 programmes.

Azalina asked the AFC to give Malaysia special exemption to allow the EPL champions to play the friendly as scheduled on July 27.

Hamman had said in a statement that he wanted the friendly match to be rescheduled

Sounds like he's covering his retreat.

After realising that all attempts at controlling blogs would be futile, he's now trying to reassure those who called the loudest for blog control: Those who know nothing about them.

He will succeed in covering his ass too.

cheers

moron or oxymoron...I am hundred percent sure..he is a moron.

However, the term 'clean politician' may very well be an oxymoron. ;)

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
