MacroKiosk makes a move

According to NST-Business Times, Macro Kiosk Bhd announced May 29 that it has decided to suspend its entire content-provision services, involving some 1,300 content providers globally, aimed "to safeguard the image of Macro Kiosk whose business ethics have been questioned by the authorities following irregularities among the service provider's clients". The NST-Business Times described Macro Kiosk as a 70% subsidiary of main-board listed Goldis Bhd, traditionally of Tan & Tan fame. Quote:

The Securities Commission had rejected Macro Kiosk's request for a listing on Bursa Malaysia's Mesdaq market some two years ago.

KUALA LUMPUR (XFN-ASIA) - Gold Is Bhd said the Securities Commission (SC) has rejected its plan to list unit Macro Kiosk Bhd on the Mesdaq market of Bursa Malaysia.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, Gold Is said the SC rejected the proposed listing as Macro Kiosk does not have variety in its products and services offered to its customers.

The regulator also said that Macro Kiosk faces uncertain prospects in a very competitive industry.

Gold Is said that a board meeting will be called to deliberate on the SC's decision and an appropriate announcement, if required, will be made in due course.

Reference is made to the expose' of Maxis overcharging of one of their services. I think we should also investigate Astro as well. There was a local news story that Astro levied a charge of RM50 just to push the disc toward the right direction for its new satellite.

My experience with them is just as bad when they charged a late bill payment fee of RM10 for a bill of RM49.95. This is worse than the interest levied by “Ah Long” for a bill which they said was late by a month. As Astro is fond of sending bills in advance my bill was not even late in payment in relation to the services I received.

The first time I paid up, I was levied an additional RM20 for service reconnection. RM20 for just a click of the computer mouse to reconnect the service, just a push of the disc for RM50!

The second time around I got a telephone call from their service restorer. I told her
Astro could reconnect if they would waive the RM10 late payment charge and RM20 reconnection reconnection. She told me to appeal to their accounts department for the waiver and she went ahead to reconnect. I spent the next two days trying to call the accounts department but it was always engaged and put on hold for more than 1/2 hour each time until I gave up trying. The reconnection was effected and lasted three days before it was cut off again. When a new bill came there was the reconnection fee of RM20!

It is now time that anyone being treated unfairly to stand up and be counted.

One up for you, huh? Looks like Microkiosk is cleaning house and keeping out the bad guys. I read the BT story which confirms they provide the gateway and these content guys abuse it. So, they are closing the gateway.
And, Jeff, you are right about the Star article. I wonder where that came from. It was totally different... :)
