LCCT: Now everybody can die
Oriental Daily News today frontpaged an alarming piece of news about how everybody can fly cheap and die cheap.
A passenger who flew in from Tawau died at the Sepang Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) during the wee hours yesterday. He was believed to have succumbed to asthma attack and there was no ER (emergency room) facilities to attend to him immediately at the cheap airport.
This was not the first, and probably not the last casulaty. Last July, artiste Hani Mohsein died under similar circumstances at the same airport last July.
Immediately after Hani's death, the management of LCCT started stationing paramedics on a 24-hour basis.
Apparently, the medical support didn't kick in when it was needed most for the Tawau-originated traveller.
Bear in mind, the nearest full-fledged medical service is located in Serdang Hospital, besides a clinic operational at KLIA situated nearby. However, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes before an ambulance can arrive to your rescue at the LCCT -- if you are that lucky.
What went wrong again yesterday?

What a scoop from Oriental Daily News! I wish I could read the piece, Jeff. (Didn't take up Mandarin classes during my Univ days).
It is rather unfortunate in Malaysia that we have to experience death/major calamity before rectifying the problem. What happened to the paramedics that were supposed to be stationed 24hrs? Sleeping on the job? Someone should do a cleansing ritual at the LCCT. 2 deaths within a short period of time is no joke!

No offend to the deceased artist but maybe he was not that big shot, so the experience is not learned. I think we really need death of some political big shot figures due to same reason as what happened to the Tawau travelers. Then maybe they will start taking precaution in future. Sadist but true.

I did not put 2 and 2 together until I read this post. My grievance for AirAsia has always been that it is not actually an alternative, but a forced choice (an oxymoron?) on us Malaysians. On some routes, one do not have any other choice except to fly AirAsia or its stepsister FAX.
KL LCCT is a 20-year step in the wrong direction. Terminal 2/3 Subang was like that, manual baggage management system, you walk to the aircraft and climb up the stairs even though you are crippled, and you have to brave the airport tarmac with all sorts of vehicles and planes criss-crossing over, fighting you for right of way.
What is this? This is what Tony says modernization? Advancing the civilization?
Tuna sandwich laaa.

Please, lah - even the LCT at the great Changi Airport has the same "basic" facilities.
You want the frills? Are you prepared to pay for them, in terms of a surcharge on the price of your AirAsia ticket?
Blaming Tony F for the supposed shortfalls of the KLIA LCCT is wrong. If anything, blame Msia Airports.
Or is that too difficult to fathom?

The problem with our world these days is: The rich pays 20 millions to go to space. The poor should be contended with low cost flights and their 'take-along' nasi lemak.
Economic of scale. There is always a reason why something is cheap. Personally I don't use them . It is not that I am too high class to use cheap flights. I just don't trust them. There have to be reasons why they are cheap. I do not mind having to pay for my own meals. But I do mind very much the ratio of flight personel vs passengers. What if there is an emergency landing? Are the personel properly trained to take care of the passengers? This is just one observation.

Wat 2 do? i still have 2 fly back S'wak using AirAsia due to its cheap fares..Who to blame?? it's out beloved government BN(barang naik).
For MAB, they oso practising double std by building such as inferior building but the airport charge not really cheap too.
Issit Tony fault ?? Dun think so..He only provide us alternative which our premium airlines MAS cant do or always claims they making loss on domestic route..
ummm..still have 2 take AirAsia from LCCT next yr too cos PLUS toll increase 10% again...
Our wonderfull m'sia geeting expensive for local to live on but not de foreign..

The thing is that this news is not available at the other newspaper nor TV stations (I stand to be corrected).
Media blackout or self censored. And without any public outcry, I ll bet there will not be any improvement to this matter.

No to relate AirAsia with LCCT is a fatal flaw.
LCCT would not have existed without AirAsia, furthermore LCCT would not have existed without Tony's insistence on cutting corners to keep cost down, so that people like you (yeah you!) can fly cheaper.
Well in project management or engineering there are this three things, but you can have only two:
1. Good quality
2. Cheap (low cost)
3. Quick (delivered quickly)
If you want it good and cheap, you can't have it quickly. If you want it cheap and quick, you can't have a good quality product. If you want it good and quick, it won't be cheap.
Something must be sacrificed, no matter how much you want to shout. AirAsia is cheap, and they want quick turnover for passenger masuk-keluar-plane rate, so you WILL NOT HAVE GOOD QUALITY EXPERIENCE.
You run helter and skelter to get to your plane.
Now people die because not enough facilities provided.
Blame MAB? I think not.
LCCT is AirAsia. You see any other airlines operating from there?

Another point:
I saw several defibrillators in Malaysian Airlines flights.
I've been into several AirAsia/FAX flights, but did not see any defibrillator, or perhaps I was not looking for it.
Can anyone one confirm if defibrillator is any AirAsia aircraft?
I hope Tony can use it when he flies AirAsia himself.

OOOOhhhhhh, want to know more about Malaysia's Ambulance service? Here's a teaser...some weeks back, our Minister of Health said this "All ambulance drivers must undergo First Aid training"
which also means that right now they don't have this knowledge. Frightening isn't it?
