Alleged corruption: Taib sues Utusan, Malaysiakini and KeADILan folks
Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud is suing Utusan Malaysia, Malaysiakini and two Parti Keadilan Rakyat senior officials in Sarawak for making allegations of corrupt practices against him.
The defendants named in the lawsuit against Utusan Malaysia are its proprietor and publisher Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd, Utusan Online, and group editor Mohd Khalid Mohd.
In the case of Malaysiakini, Taib named as defendants MKini Dotcom Sdn Bhd, the publisher of Malaysiakini, and its chief editor Gan Diong Keng, also known as Steven Gan.
Both the suits were filed in the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday, May 15.
On the other hand, the suit against PKR state liaison chief Wan Zainal Wan Sanusi and the party’s Stampin branch chairman See Chee How was filed In the Kuching High Court. It was related to the distribution of leaflets which contained articles from Malaysiakini and Japan Times.
Via Star Online. Original context here.
May 14, Taib issued a statement to the state legislative assembly refuting all insinuations of corrupt practices against him, and the state government, stemming from an article carried by the "Japan Times" newspaper.on March 29, titled: "Wood Carriers Allegedly Hid 1.1 Billion Yen Income".
It's not sure if Taib is also suing Japan Times.
For Malaysia, as seen through this suit, is the mainstream media beating new media on its own turf? Perhaps it will be made known when Utusan and Malaysiakini respond to the suits against them.

I think Taib is suing the wrong people.
These people being sued are only reporting what Japan Times had said. Taib should just sue JT.
