Political bombshell explodes in Sabah

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Chong Kah Kiat announced his resignation from the state cabinet after having an audience with the Yang Di Pertua Negri Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah this morning.

The resignation will take effect on April 16.

According to The Star, Chong declined to spell out reasons for his decision except to say it was a question of principle. However, he indicated that he would be more specific at another date if challenged.

However, Malaysiakini reported that Chong had cited differences with Chief Minister Musa Aman as the reason for his resignation.

Chong, a staunch Barisan Nasional man since forming LDP in 1990, said he decided to announce his decision today as he did not want to disrupt the Machap by-election, which was held yesterday.

Musa, an aligned protege of the PM, has recently been implicated in alleged corrupt practices by fellow politicians from Sabah, which saw no action being taken.

Jeff,
Malaysiakini and subsequently you have made a mistake. Chong Kah Kiat is / was the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah. He is NOT a deputy minister in the Sabah state cabinet.
Saba

SabaM..

My English not so good... Sabah Deputy Chief Minister----Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah.

What is the difference

SabaM,
Second with art chan. What's the different?

Art / Moo_t,
Both of you seemed to have missed my point.
Initially, both Malaysiakini and Jeff had (mistakenly) stated Chong's designation as a deputy minister in the Sabah state cabinet. That is incorrect.
Before Chong's resignation, his official designation was one of three Deputy CHIEF ministers in the Sabah state cabinet. That made him, officially at least, on par with Pairin Kitingan (PBS) and the UMNO man.
Upon approving my post, Jeff corrected his mistake pretty quickly.

JEFF OOI says: SabaM is right. But you three had missed the more important issue in Sabah politics.

Jeff,
I cannot really comment on Sabah, or Malaysian politics, in the larger context as my current knowledge is limited to what I read in the blogs.
Let me digress. I came here, to the US, to study, in 1992. Been here ever since, sans for a short period between 2001 and 2002, when I was out of here.
On the other hand, I do like to correct any factual errors when it occurs, as it solidifies the subject matter of the blog.
I have been following your blog ever since Malaysiakini added your blog as a link to their homepage. Speaking of Malaysiakini, I have been with them since day one, when it was a free site. I became a paid member with them (Malaysiakini) when they became a paid site.
Keep up the good fight. I like the combination of politics, humor, general interest and pictures on your blog.
I do have to admit, that at times, the grammer leaves much to be desired but the message does get through.
I will continue to make comments when I do see factual errors though. I am sure, at this point, factual content is your main desire. That way, your blog will continue to be associated with what is happening on the ground.
