Nurul Izzah blogs

After several video interviews with Malaysiakini, Nurul Izzah Anwar began blogging officially yesterday.

It's on Zeitgeist... Semangat Zaman. Read her first entry: Ijok: The Beginning of All Beginnings.

Some backgrounder is called for to give it a context. Quote Malaysiakini, April 6:

Nurul-Izzah.jpgIn 1999, while speaking to a group of Malaysian students in Wales, Nurul Izzah Anwar was asked whether she would become a politician. "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it," she answered.

Eight years later, Nurul Izzah has come to that bridge.

As a novice thrust into political activism almost a decade ago, her main target was to get her father, Anwar Ibrahim, out of jail after he was dramatically sacked as deputy premier in 1998.

Today, Nurul Izzah, 26 - dubbed ‘Puteri Reformasi’ (princess of reformasi) - has set her sights on carving out a niche for herself in politics.

Malaysiakini has this exclusive interview.

Part 1
Puteri Reformasi ready for active politics
Q&A: 'Let me come into the struggle fresh'

Part 2
Making 'Baby Reformasi' proud
Q&A: My husband, my soul mate

Watch the four-part video of the interview
Part 1 (17 min)
Part 2 (17 min)
Part 3 (18 min)
Part 4 (7 min)

Zeitgeist is originally a German expression that means "the spirit (Geist) of the time (Zeit)".

Malaysians, if any are still at large, without first classifying themselves as Malay, Chinese or Indian, have time & again regurgitated the ‘Reformasi’ slogan without paying much attention to what actually has to be ‘reformed’ in Malaysia. ‘Reformasi’ for PAS/Anwar is the Islamisation of Malaysia. Parti Keadilan is only a smoke screen for sectarian renegades to achieve their devious aims. DAP has become a voice in the wilderness. Badawi (for once he was right!) had pointed out we are a Nation with first class standards but with a Third World mentality. Guess what needs ‘reforming’ is OUR mentality which can only be done by each individual – not by any ’Puteras’ or ‘Puteris’. Why do Malaysians still want to be ‘led’ like sheep by some mundane characters instead of making the best of what we have as a Nation led by the Barisan? With the Americans building up Singapore as the Israel of South East Asia (yeah, yeah - I am wrong!), do we want to turn Malaysia into another future Iraq? Guess the grass is always greener on the other side eh?

quoting you: "Parti Keadilan is only a smoke screen for sectarian renegades to achieve their devious aims. DAP has become a voice in the wilderness. Badawi (for once he was right!) had pointed out we are a Nation with first class standards but with a Third World mentality."

In this summing up, you reduced the complex political situations in NegaraKu into such simplistic terms such that you only are correct.

Just taking what you described, what "smokescreen" evidence do you have that PKR represents "sectarian renegades to achieve their devious aims".

Mighty big words you use, but what is it all about? ...which "sectarian", and what "renegades", and what "devious"?

JUST TAKE YOUR LUMPS OF SHIT BACK TO YOUR OWN bLOG FROM WHERE i JUST SURFED BACK -- YOU MAKE ALL SORTS OF INSINUATIONS ABOUT JEFF OOI'S BLOGGER PERSONALITY -- just like the aforegoing paragraph I quoted from your comment here -- IF YOU SO DISTRUST Screenshots here as of integrity, why bother to visit here to ENGAGE the host and other visitors?

As for "Puteri Reformasi", she's lending her idealism to change Malaysian landscape -- politically especially -- for better governannce like transparency, fight against corruption and injustrice -- which you have eyes and ears but do not want to see or hear; so you just dismissed her. Well, if you believe thus: "Why do Malaysians still want to be ‘led’ like sheep by some mundane characters instead of making the best of what we have as a Nation led by the Barisan? ", then GO BACK AND SLEEP IN THY OWN NEST and don't bother to enage others who wish to work for Reform/Change because the system is so corrupt and under-performing -- for the better of fellow Malaysians -- Go throw thy cold water elsewhere , will you. I heard my friend whisper "Another Gomen sycophant", but I won't be so polite, I say profiteering Ballscarrier!

PS: The post at Bnaipal's which refers, quite short, hence I reprised here for context:

"Jeff Ooi - Really?
March 17th, 2007
Jeff complains incessantly about press censorship & Malaysia but I wonder why he has started to hold readers’ comments for moderation before he publishes them. Is it out of fear of victimization by the Government or does he want to ‘impress’ some of his political financiers with his ‘loyalty’? Guess one of the ways to gain popularity is to point out ‘mistakes’ of the Government & ruling parties then claim to be an innocent victim – it sure can draw cheap publicity.

The internet is a powerful communication tool & when used constructively – an unbound arena for intellectual growth & stimuli. But when one plots to mould the content with ulterior motives, the devastating effect will rebound on them. The stench of uncanny manipulativeness destroys the very ‘freedom’ that a blogger preaches & they are exposed of their very naked belligerent immoral ideologies. Is Jeff such a blogger?"

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
