Missing Person: Columnist Kee Thuan Chye

If he doesn't show up by next Sunday, I think we should lodge a Missing Person report on the Internet.

I am talking about Kee Thuan Chye who started a column in Sunday Star -- Playing the Fool -- of all days but on All Fools' Day.

After two outings (April 1 & April 8), he failed to show up on April 15 as he should. Again, he failed to show up yesterday when Sunday came and went.

Which Fool says he has crossed the line? Which Fool is playing the fool and insisting that Kee's column should be terminated? Which Fool? Why? What for? For what?

We'd hate to have to get Jacqueline Ann Surin to write an obituary this May 3 World Press Freedom Day if Kee's column is really gone for good.

There has never been a freer media in this country, quote unquote. Any Fool should know when to stop fooling around with the gagging of such little harmless column as Playing the Fool..

Bloody fool!

Oh for heaven's sake. PM gets voted out or forced to retire, dictators get overthrown, what makes you think journalist are not dispensible?
Even microsoft have to adapt itself or face obscurity.

To work and "get along" in some big corporation, you have to act like a fool, play the fool, report to the fools, generally fooling around and if you think you can express your "gut feeling" you are a bloody fool :)

I was surprised his first piece a couple of weeks back (the Apr 1st one was but a preamble) was published at all. Given the guy's hard-hitting, direct-speaking manner, I won't be surprised now if the whole column is canned. What do your little birds tell you, Jeff?

JEFF OOI says: The Little Birds chirp a lot. Kee's column was even discussed at Cabinet level!

Hey, I've an idea. Why don't you invite him as a guest blogger?

Curiously, on last Sunday there was this article:http://thestar.com.my/lifestyle/story.asp?file=/2007/4/22/lifefocus/17510455&sec=lifefocus

Could it be the explanation of Kee's disappearance? That is the function of a newspaper is to deliver readers to the advertisers and not delivering the news to the readers?

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
