Kickdefella has found his 'Al-Ghazali'
EXCLUSIVE. Blogger Sheikh a.k.a. Kickdefella (LensaPress photo below) has beaten Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in their philosophical search for Al-Ghazali.
Over the weekend, we were told that Sheikh has finally reached the momentary abode in his search for a modern day model of Al-Ghazali, the revelled scholar who was noted, in Wikipedia, for having contributed significantly to the development of a systematic view of Sufism and its integration and acceptance in mainstream Islam.
Like Al-Ghazali of the 12th Century, Sheikh has found a place to share and distribute his wealth of knowledge, albeit in the digital age of multimedia, in juxtaposition to a well-sung rhetoric: "Aku cari bukan harta bertimbun-timbun untuk hidup kaya; Aku cari bukan wang berjuta-juta untuk hidup bergaya; Aku cari bukan kawan-kawan untuk hidup sekadar berfoya-foya..."
Sheikh's recent visit to Pulau Duyong in search of Al-Ghazali has directed him further north, where the PAS-led Kelantan allures.
Come April 15, Sheikh or Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz for real, will be known as the Corporate Liaison Officer for Perbadanan Menteri Besar Kelantan (PMBK, Kelantan Chief Minister Corporation) and companies under the PMBK Group.
Sheih told Screenshots that he had resigned from his position as a broadcast and filming lecturer with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) effective April 7, 2007.
Why Kelantan? Sheikh declared in a blog entry apparently meant for his children: "It's all for love... Abah has taken this journey tonight for only one reason, and that reason is love. One day, you will understand... May it be for your mother or your motherland, a man has to do what a man has to do, sayang."
Sheikh's mother, who stays in Kota Baru, treated her prodigal son to a lunch with budu durian when she learned of his home-coming, an event for which state exco Husam Musa was said to have played an instrumental role.
Bloggers retreat in Kelantan
Significantly, Sheikh is currently a valid exco member of Pemuda Umno, Sri Hartamas branch. Prior to this, he was its branch chairman for two consecutive terms.
"PAS knows I am an Umno member, but it is open enough to accept me, and to give me an opportunity to contribute towards the development of my home-state," Sheikh told Screenshots recently.
Sheikh, who is an exco member of the National Bloggers Alliance which was formed last Thursday, is better known for his kickass posters about the political malaise in Malaysia.
One of his immediate liaison activities is to co-organise a 3-day-2-night bloggers retreat in Kelantan.
"We planned to take our fellow bloggers to visit Kelantan and for them to blog on whatever issue that they wish to blog about the state," he said in his blog recently.
As for Sheikh's official duty, one of the immediate tasks is tackling the controversy surrounding the deforestation of Lojing and alleged lack of enforcement on the part of the Department of Environment (DoE).
"When I was in Kelantan recently, I managed to see some video footage which my cousin and his UMNO buddies had shot a day earlier in Lojing Highlands. He also presented me with some stunning information on the ownership of certain hundred acres of land there," Sheikh said.
Much ado about Lojing
Lojing hogged the headlines recently where the state government of PAS was accused of allowing indiscriminate logging, causing environmental problems to the surrounding regions, amidst state authorities' counter-claims that two companies had flouted regulations by starting work without the environment impact assessment (EIA) report.
At the Parliament recently, one MP claimed that rain has caused the exposed soil in Lojing to be washed into the Pahang river, causing the waterway to be silted up in some parts; while another alleged that the removal of forest cover in Lojing has raised the temperature of Cameron Highlands.
For those uninitiated, Lojing is about two hours from KL, and it is accessible via the north-bound PLUS highway. At the Simpang Pulai interchange, take the new route to Cameron Highlands via Pos Slim. Road condition is good en route straight to Gua Musang via Bertam.
"I hope to keep updating more about Lojing on my blog," he said. "I am also going to start a new blog which will be in Bahasa Malaysia."
Meanwhile, Sheilh extends his invitation to fellow Malaysians who wish to work in Kelantan. "There are lots of openings especially under the communications and multimedia section," he said. "Please email me if you are interested."
Sheikh can be reached at his email: kickdefella @ yahoo.com.
Prior to his lecturing at UTAR, Sheikh was the director, producer and script-writer for film and TV programmes. He was the film director for Persona Non Grata, Earl Grey & Kopi Kampung and Kuartet Merdeka. He also the producer for Astro Ria TV magazine Sensasi Auto for four seasons.
Throughout his 12-year career history in broadcast, Sheikh has won numerous awards for his works, which include Best Story award for Perempuan Melayu Terakhir and Most Promising Director award for Persona Non Grata. Incidentally, Persona Non Grata was chosen to represent Malaysia in Asia-Pacific Film Festival, Taiwan, in 2006.
At the moment, Sheikh is gungho about his new posting and he is in the midst of taking his oath before a judge. "Waiyaaa… All this while I thought you angkat sumpah in front of the Commissioner of Oath."

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is still in search of his Al-Ghazali and Al-Shafie...
Mencari Damai AbadiAku cari bukan harta bertimbun-timbun,
Untuk hidup kaya,
Aku cari bukan wang berjuta-juta,
Untuk hidup bergaya,
Aku cari bukan kawan-kawan,
Untuk hidup sekadar berfoya-foya,
Aku cari mana dia Al-Ghazali,
Aku cari mana dia Al-Shafie,
Kita bongkar rahsia kitab suci,
Cari panduan,
Kita bongkar rahsia sunah Nabi,
Cari pedoman,
Aku hidup kerana Dia Rabbi,
Dialah teman,
Dialah wali,
Dia mencukupi,
Aku hidup bererti,
Menikmati damai abadi.

I don't know why but this entry made me laughed. Or did I sneered? "Mencari Al Ghazali"?? That is so funny in so many ways, some could not be put to writing.

Folks
Sheikh would be good for Kelantan under ONE condition:
He should import the UMNO baggage along with him when he returns home.
Or else he will become a Persona Non Grata himself, like some of his UMNO friends who are being despised by Kelantanese.
UMNO has such a bad and distasteful reputation that when you say you are an UMNO member, you are treated like a newly-infected leper.
Of course UMNO members think highly of themselves and also think themselves as exclusive to others... well, that is how most folks who suffer from leprosy do too.
So let's hope that Sheik goes back to Kelantan as anak-kelatae rather than as UMNO member. He should throwaway his UMNO card and badge in the quarantine bin at the Pengkalan Cepa airport when he arrives.
With that, we wish him all the best. If Sheikh broadcasts himself as former UMNO branch chairman, he might as well kiss goodbye his endeavours in Kelantan.

funny!
when he is one of you, everyone seem capable enough to look pass his flaws. imagine, if BN does the same, you'l probably call that person "turncoat", "bought over" etc. You would surely dig stories of his failure in the movie industry and that he needs the money afterall.
To me this is just him cari makan, but in blogsphere you guys make him a hero. I guess under the current environment, you guys will find the smallest excuse to claim you won the war.
They spin, you spin. 2x5
