77 years ago to the date...
April 5, 1930, Mahatma Gandhi declared to the world...

This battle of Right against Might. The context, 77 years ago then, was the non-violent, 400km Salt March, a protest against British monopoly on salt trade.
It was a protest against monopoly the Satyagraha way.
Seventy-seven years on, ain't we living in a world of surging monopoly over the opinion space. Constructive criticisms are gross dissent. And that, you should only buy one version of truth that is news-slanted by the politically-cowed mainstream media dictated by the editorial mullahs?
In January 2006, as if blogging was long foreseen as the modern day long-haul Salt March from the cyberworld to reality, I remembered Gandhi's devotion to Satyagraha -- the resistance of tyranny through mass civil disobedience, firmly founded upon ahimsa (total non-violence).
then they laugh at you,
then they fight you,
then you win.
Mahatma Gandhi
We are no mahātmā. But that stops us not from seeking solace in mahātmā's wisdom and spirit.
Among many other things, Gandhi once said:"You should be the change that you want to see in the world."
WALK WITH US bloggers... fellow Malaysians!

In an atmosphere obscured and yet prompted by fear might shall always define right. Not that that should be the way. But that is the way. With uninformed citizens on a full stomach it is always easier to find solace and comfort succumbing to fear than to attempt to fashion ones life out of right. There is reward and recognition granted with those who dance to and uphold the dominion of might.
Might is dressed up to appeal to the masses. And where the appeal fails, might can always resort to institute fear so that all will just fall in line with what ever might intends.
As might defines right and the bearers of this definition themsleves submit to might and carry about their ordained and sanctified duties to the dismay and embarrassment of their peers and ancestors, there is really little that one can hope for in right. Mahatma Ghandhi would have been subject to the ridicule of all our contemporary broadcast and print media today and he would have served the ISA in Kamunting many times over by now. Indeed on such a march as he undertook our FRU and the police would have drenched him in coloured water and probably had his head bashed in as well as we all have seen in many video clips. And we the citizens of the country would only have stood by and watched as he would be described and defined by might and might's messengers. That would be Mahatma Ghandi for you in a contemporary setting in this, our land Malaysia, today!.

Jeff,
I caught this from a film I watched recently...
"Funny how the hardest thing to do and the right thing to do are usually the same...."
Good luck.

Walk tall, Jeff. And you too Rocky. The Bloggers' United logo is getting to be a popular icon. It's gathering momentum and sprouting up everywhere. Not the pc savvy type, it took me a while to figure out how to paste it in my blog. Finally I did it.

Great inspiration from Gandhi and the Salt March. Hopefully this will be victory to enlighten paranoid authorities.

There's talk they want to register bloggers. They still don't get it. If they do that, it will only drive more underground. Where now identities of many are displayed and there is some easy coexistence of dissenting views argued to a balance between peers, all of that so easily taken for granted will be gone if they attempt to curb peoples' voice from being heard. And there are plenty of hosts overseas to house replenishable sites beyond their reach. And it will just be like registering handphone numbers - all you need is anyone's mykad.
People know why e-magazines like malaysiakini are barred from print editions without one tissue of a good reason. They will rankle against anything that tilts the scale of justice.
One doesn't want to say that the underlying weakness in this country is a government without much brains.
But that would explain why it is taking so much trouble to hide truths. People can draw their own conclusions - for instance, all along we have been given to understand that the total civil service has been capped at 1 million - how has that suddenly been revealed to be 2 million? And only a day before they have said those on govt scholarships overseas can stay overseas because it's too competitive for them to get jobs here - given that they are supposedly 'top' scholars doing courses in demand, what does that tell you about the health of the economy here?
Yes, the people know and their bloggers are part of the solution, not the problem.
If a government has to use might-is-right, it might as well be out of sight.

Even though I'm not a Blogger I support you all the way...! IMHO you bloggers rock. You've exposed some dinosaurs in the government and several ignoramus as well as ignorabimus who'd like to stay in their comfort zone till the end of time. Well the time is over for them. Now we shall see a new dawn over the horizon where as Mahatma Gandhi eloquently put it: right against might.
A movement that transcends all racial and religious boundaries, bipartisan and deeply patriotic toward this beloved country (not to some schmuck political party).
I wish you all the best! May this group flourish and become a powerful voice that will be heard all over the world! Let's hope that Pak Lah will view this as a positive development and not be swayed by his "advisors" especially those blue boys at the 4th floor that still thinks it costs money to create a website...
