Discrediting bloggers... another lame attempt
Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin (ZAM) asked newspapers not to quote from weblogs when writing news stories as bloggers' source of the information cannot be considered authoritative, Bernama reported.
He said journalists who quoted websites are actually not being fair to themselves, to their readers and newspapers for picking up a doubtful source and providing space in newspapers for a person whose identity was unknown.
ZAM was quoted by Bernama as saying the Government could control the bloggers by way of legislation although his ministry did not have the power to do so.
In The Star, ZAM was quoted as saying most websites on the Internet were provocative and run either by those who were frustrated journalists or frustrated in politics.
Interestingly, in Bernama, ZAM also said he was disappointed with blogs/websites that have not been updated and carried inaccurate information, causing uneasiness and confusion to people surfing the websites.
Rocky supports ZAM's 'theoriy' with one example of a cob-webbed blog: "Shahrir Samad might want to decide one way or the other: to blog or not to blog. His last posting here was on May 2 last year; it received 131 comments, plus spams on how to get rich real quick!"
So, how many have we got in the circus so far? Shaziman, FAK, ZAM, AAB, Internal Security, Ku Nan... ah! Rehman Rashid?
Ku Nan Blooper... unresolved
Ku Nan Blooper... It didn't start from here, neither will it end just here...

The Ku Nan blooper... Sin Chew Daily, March 8, 2007
These are some female bloggers/blog commenters that I know. Are they jobless and are they liars?

What Ku Nan failed to see, Woman Affairs Minister Sharizat must keep her eyes wide open! Even the Next Generation in theCicak community are chanting: We’re not staying home and making babies!
The Scribe says all this blogger-bashing is not coincidental.

Jeff, you know better than to listen to Zainuddin Maidin. He's not the Minister of Information, he's the Minister of Misinformation and Propaganda.
I stopped listening to the overheated, overinflated windbag when he said that Malaysians were too close minded to view political proceedings in Parliament on television.

We all know that the bloggers have much credibility than the main stream papers. Those who write false stories or fan racial sentiments will be avoided by the rakyat. Thus if stories are carried by Jeff or Rocky's or Malaysiakini or RPK and many other credible bloggers, one can expect respect for such articles. Problem with the Minister is that he still can't figure out what is right or wrong except to blindly follow his boss's direction to shut up the truth as we all know the truth hurts too.

Obviously Bloggers are not all women or jobless, but even if so my question then would be so what? Does he mean to imply just because a person is a woman and maybe even jobless they have no intelligence, that their point of view is not worth listening to. I do not care if a person is male or female, has a job or not, has a degree or not, all can tell the truth and all are capable of lies. But then again whom ever said blogs are supose to be 100% truthful, they are meant to be opinions, and opinions are not always based on acurate informatin, it is simply a person's point of view. This is the very nature of blogs as many dictionaries will give the definition of. In any case, I to agree that most bloggers are more honest than the newspapers in this country. So what if someone publishes somethign that is anti-government, I thought the whole reason for newspapers in the first place was in order to comment on what governments do wrong, this is what their main job is, to report on the misdoings of their governments in order to keep them in check and to help the public know what is going on this is why it is news.
