Mee Rebus, 22.2
Quite a lot of people know I am a big sucker for mee rebus (the Malaysian concoction of spaghetti in potato sauce). I have hunted it down from Kedah to Johor, including Mee Abu (Alor Setar), Mee Agong (Penang), Mee Shaukat Ali (Puchong) and mee rebus Batu Road -- which are now either defunct or being carried on in different flavours. My surviving favourite is the one in Setulang Laut, JB, but it's so far away from daily routine.
[ My last forum entry on mee rebus was in September 2004, USJ.com.my ]
Mee rebus gravy is tedious to make, and they cannot be stored overnight. So, the seller must have a steady stream of patrons to make the labour, and the business, worth the while. Over the years, we have seen the art of mee rebus making giving way to cookie-cutter instant meals, so much so that mee rebus may die in my generation.
There used to be a great mee rebus stall at Uncle Don in front of the Wisma Denmark High Court, where Rocky and I hear our defamation suits. But Uncle Don has been torn down to make way for development, and its 'franchisee' in Bukit Bintang had since disappeared. My gian thus became less easy to satisfy.
Today, Rocky is again prepared for his hearing at Wisma Denmark, 2.30pm. As a substitute to all great mee rebus, he has arranged for a mee rebus session among bloggers at Kafe-Four-teen, (Opposite the PJ Section 14 mosque, besides Bank Islam), 11am.
We had to RSVP as Kak Maria's mee rebus is only in short supply. I heard MarinaM is joining us.

Stulang Laut is not the only one. Next time you are in JB try the one at Sri Terbrau that is facing opposite the church. 2nd or 3 shop from the right. That one also not bad. :P

My favourites mee rebus is at Taman Datuk Harun, PJS(a very simple stall are the Datuk Harun Secondary School).
Very nice taste plus the price are 'berbaloi' and affordable even to the school kids.
RM2 for 1 (take away or eat there) is the cheapest as i know.

Another good mee rebus worth trying while you are in Johor Bahru, is located in one of the shacks located across a row of shophouses along the main road in Taman Daya. The gravy is delicious and the mee rebus is sprinkled with fried crackers.

Hi Jeff
Wow what could I say? Free promotion for my mee rebus in your blog.
Am honoured but at the same time am so embarrass-lah. Ayo, my mee rebus …nothing to shout about.
I was told by my sister, Nuraina, that Rocky’d be bringing his blogger friends for lunch. before proceeding for Denmark House for the hearing. Didn’t know they’d include big names in the Malaysian blogosphere
That was really a pleasant surprise.
Thank you guys. I appreciate you coming to try my mee rebus. Asal jangan ada yang complain sakit perut!
Thanks again, Jeff.

There is two famous mee rebus or perhaps mee jawa in KL which is legendary.
One at kg baru pasar minggu, a bit in the back lane. Another is a mamak mee rebus in an old style kopitiam shop (with spitom under the table) across Bangkok Bank bus stand.
I haven't been there for awhile since Hj Wahid JB's son, nasir make his mark into KL. Recently the brother Halim in JB told me he is still in KL. Forgot wher he mention it. Can't believe I forget about good food.

The mee rebus at stulang laut tastes best in the morning when it's fresh from the stove. Tried it at night and it was so diluted. the gravy is much thicker and tastier in the morning.

If you prefer Port Klang - there's this old foodcourt behind Standard Chartered. Back in 70's Pak Sowarjo operated a stall now handed down to his grandson. My must go place whenever I am back in Malaysia every now and then. (take the whole package from other stalls - crunchy nasi ayam, seafood bakar and ABCs)

Belated Gong Xi Fa Cai.
Couple of locations for you to try:
Emporium Makan Klang - mee jawa. Been there for ages. Look out for the one with 3 stalls with the same signboard.
Mee Rebus in TTDI Jaya Shah Alam. Go along main road from Monfort. It is on the same row as Shell. Can't remember the name but they also serves beryani gam.
cheers
