Asmara Air or FireFly?
A new local airline will operate from the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas by April, revealed Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy yesterday.
Is love getting air-borne for Asmara Air finally? Or is it FireFly this time?
Meanwhile, a Malaysian youth leader is lecturing AirAsia that its "current uniform is not appropriate with our (identity and) culture".
Comments
can someone point out to the moron that its airASIA and not airMALAYSIA, so WHY do they have to project a Malaysian identity? Unclear of the concept, as always.

I'm a little confused whenever politikuses (they are all rats) say some things are not our culture, and must reflect the Malaysian identity. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture
Basically, what these Glocal Malays are suggesting is that all of us "dress, eat, talk" in the 'malay' manner. Nothing wrong with that, but please don't call that a Malaysian identity. Malaysia is full of other races that practices different customs.
So, if we take this MYC's what-his-name suggestions, then AirAsia should:
1. Have their flight attendants wear sarongs, knee-length khakis, singlets, soccer shorts and Man United knock-offs.
2. Have passengers remove their shoes and leave them outside the aircraft.
3. Have passengers eat with their fingers.
Surely, culture is more than that! Majoring on the minor. Dumb ass. Gimme a break.

It is about time our self-appointed moral crusaders and conservatives who try to define what our Malaysian culture is suppsoed to be be put in their place. Just becasue he is the head of some juvenile youth organisation does not mean that he qualifies for any kind of exposure in the print or mainstream media. Giving these people the space is what annoys and irritates the rest of us. The mainstreamm media should bear the responsibility of ensuring the wishes of these self appointed moralists which make us all sound like we come from some Taliban infested cultre are never broadcast beyond their own four walls.
Tony Fernandez should give these blokes the royal boot and send them packing and not waste time even giving it a passing glance.
On that score if this bloke things the MAS uniform is far better ..I would beg to differ. The MAS uniform exagerates the shape and form of the ladies wearing it. Maybe to the Malaysian eye, this might be normal. But to a lot of foreigners' eyes this could push the wrong buttons. I know as I have seen it for myself when foreigns began to get turned on 35,000 feet up in the air. In that sense, the Air Asia uniform is far less revealing and a whole lot more respectable of the women wearing them.

It is appalling that the politikus are harping on nonsense like these rather than contributing to the development of the country. Remember several years back comments grazed the local papers as to the inappropriateness of the MAS stewardess' uniforms? I belief MAS uniforms reflects the Malay culture (cos to reflect the Malaysian culture, stewardess should also wear cheongsam, sari and kebaya, no?).
Malaysians have no one to blame but ourselves. We voted for these rats and we suffered for 5 years. This is not against a particular political party but a lesson learnt, that we should vote for intelligent individuals to represent the nations voice, otherwise, who is more stupid, those who utter these brainless statements or those who vote for them in the first place?

They were supposed to take off a year ago, and take over the Malaysian Airline Domestics services, however, that went to AirAsia. Heard that they had been contracted to handle all traveling itineraries for Petronas, maybe at a mark-up price?
These guys had been to China and India negotiating for unscheduled flights.
Guess who's behind this operations? Yes, you're only half-right, SIL, only this time it's the sister-in-law.

Here comes another clown who has nothing better to do. So follow culture slavishly and debunk creativity, originality. This comes about when you are still trapped by the kampong mentality. This guy should be whipped by you know who.

I don't understand why this always happens in Malaysia. All this while, AirAsia has been doing business well and had maintained a low profile in the media. Throught the low profile ages of AirAsia, none of the politicians had half the thought to notice it's potential. Now when AirAsia comes into the spotlight, these guys come out brandishing their cultural agendas and try to change everything.
I only hope that AirAsia's management would adopt a closed-door policy and not heed the comments of these politicians.

You would think these self-appointed, Talibanist and ultra-nationalistic cretins have any iota of grey matter in them at all? Do not come and impose your narrow, shallow and idiotic views on what is Malaysian or otherwise on the rest of us, the ones with some brains and the ability to decide what is right, important or necessary! Who the hell is this moronic Shamshul Anuar Nasarah anyway?
Air Asia is a private enterprise and has not had ever needed a single cent of public money from the Malaysian government (unlike that bleeding MAS perpetually needing financial crutches) and is under no obligation of any kind to project any kind of "Malaysianess" in their uniforms. Ok, would this Shamsul chappy be happy and accept cheongsams and saris in the uniforms of Air Asia as well? Malaysia does not spell MALAY, you know!
As a shareholder of Air Asia, I would definitely be more interested in the financial well-being of my company and to people like this idiot from the Malaysian Youth Council (what the fucks is this anyway?), I would be very happy to invite him to the next Annual General Meeting of Air Asia where I can then tell him to drop dead!

what have they done for AirAsia's success? (i.e the decision to disallow Subang Airport to be used by Low Cost Airline?)
now after seeing the little success by AirAsia, these ppl would walk into the office and try to influence the way the company operate. They have forgotten the rule of tumb for low cost airline is the KISS (keep it simple) concept, rather than injecting culture related ideas into the operations which cost money!!

MYC=Malaysian Youth Council. A bunch of old pr!cks pretending to be youths and trying to tell the youths what to do. Do you have any idea how old some of our "youth" leaders are??? Only in Malaysian can somebody pushing 60 and with a bald head still call himself a "youth" leader.

These conservatives have no leg to stand on. Their pigeon-hole view of something as fluid and vast as 'culture' -as Yumcious pointed out- is not a view that will be shared by anyone who knows anything about sociological concepts.

MYC= MIND YOUR COMMENTS
Morons indeed!
If not for Air Asia, they wouldn't be flying at all!
Oh, if Air Asia's uniform is a problem to them, go fly MAS! Perhaps soon enough, they will only have all male crew! Given their treatment of the female crew in MAS.
To the person who wrote that stupid letter in the first place. Go back and crawl to your mummy!

ROFL.
First, what is so secretive about the new airliner? Malaysia gahmen spirit?
And for the "elderly" youth group, they are slick and just talk out of ambiguity to avoid being shoot down. Which "identity" they are referring to? Baju Kurung? Tudung? Or should it be Cheong-sam? Sari? Iban-dayak-kadazan costume?
ROFL.

Yumcious stole my words.
MYC is free to start its own youth-oriented airline that better reflects its view of Malaysian youth culture values. I am sure passengers from all over the world will come in droves to experience pilot wearing his jacket back-to-front to fly the plane during a rainstorm, and steward nose-digging while he serves teh ais in a plastic bag.
Just like I'm sure most Malaysian youth enjoy having a bunch of sad, irrelevant old men try to tell them what to think.

Okay...at the risk of being accused of threatening the racial harmony of the glorious country that is Malaysia by some narrow-minded morons, let me just say that all the crap that comes out of the mouths of our so-called leaders makes me question what is my place in Malaysia - the country that came into being through the collaborative efforts of visionaries and leaders from all the 3 major ethnic groups that reside in our country.
I must say that I am extremely curious as to what the exact defintion of Malaysian culture that YAB Tan Sri Datuk Shamshul Anuar Nasarah - clearly one of the great minds of our country - has in mind.
It seems to me that the answers are becoming painfully obvious by the words and actions of certain factions over the last few years.....
