VMY2007 & The late VIPs
Visit Malaysia Year 2007 kicked off last night.
"And in true Malaysian-style; it started late," observes TV Smith, who overheard a conversation, and mentions it vividly in his Dua Sen blog
Go to LensaMalaysia. There is this up-close picture near the podium, away from TV cameras... and Rocky's Bru says: Eye on Abdullah.

Reading the souvenir programme... Picture courtesy LensaMalaysia member ChenWS
Despite the VIP's late show-up and bouts of drizzle, audience at Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, last night -- who were abundantly non-tourists -- were evidently mesmerised with the colourful and extravagant fireworks display. Even the RM30-million Ferris wheel dwarfed by comparison. Here are some pictures I took over a 5-hour period.

Newer pictures of Eye on Malaysia and the grand launch of VMY2007 have been uploaded by member-photographers of LensaMalaysia. Feast it!

Looks like Pak Lah is sleeping with his eyes open rather than reading the souvenir programme...can't blame him, perhaps he went through the KL bad traffic jam on his way there...or waiting for the other late VIps...

Hi Jeff,
I must admit I'm a sucker for amusement rides, so are my children. We often (rightly) criticise government policies and actions, but I think this giant "Eye" is actually a great idea.
Success depends a lot, though, on managing the ride properly and ironclad safety standards. This is the sort of place people bring kids and grandma to, and they will stay away if they don't think its absolutely safe.
JEFF OOI says: Yes, we all Malaysians should support VMY2007 and make it a success./

kittykat46,
please read the map of Lake Titiwangsa and check the surrounding. I suggest you spend the RM15 ride to KL tower and compare the scene.
London eye is build next to Thames river, next to some historical building. And read this
"As of 2006, Tussauds owns 100% of the Eye, with British Airways continuing its brand association with the landmark. Tussauds, British Airways and the Marks Barfield family (the lead architects) had previously owned one-third of the Eye each, with the airline also providing the original construction loans."

I think AAB was just "closing one eye". One open eye to see fortunes added for him and cronies and the other closed eye on the rakyat.
Visit Malaysia Year will make some ppl up there happy... what is it got to do with the rakyat?
They asked us to smile and have nice courtesy, but making us pay high petrol, electricity and tolls.

somebody thinks a ferris wheel that costs a few million ringgit and charges an adult 15 bucks to see KL when a bus ride for RM2 would do the same is a good idea...?
why am I not surprised.

Took this video during my EOM wheel ride. If you guys wanna see the fireworks like in the video, take the ride around 8.50pm. Not sure they will be punctual every night though.
