Sack the bugger, Najib

Play Donald Trump, Najib.

Oriental Daily reports what The Star daren't. A 'shake-up' is not an imperative as 'Sack that bugger', and Star editors should know that.

So Najib, listen. Sack that useless DG of yours if you still have faith in the NS programme.

If quota is an issue, get rid of Lee Lam Thye as well if you need to. We are Malaysians, you don't need a Chinese datuk to get the buy-in from the community.

Just get people who are able and willing to get the job done. And Malaysia has plenty of them on stand-by.

What, we are already at the 5th intake and still new at school? And the bus associations says: "Instead of going through contractors and agents of national service (NS) camps to transport trainees, deal directly with us." Smell something?

Sack yourself if you don't.

can you smell what najib's cooking?

Reading the comment from the Federation of Malaysian School Bus Operators Association confirms another smelly rat of this NS scam. It a scheme enriching those in power. Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, if you are proud ( and we are proud too) what have you done during the days whilst you are the YB for Bukit Bintang, you should resign from this NS scam. However if you are different person now, go ahead do whatever you wish. The buy-ins is no good!

Who are these NS camp AGENTS?

The term AGENT has become sinister and repulsive.

It brings to mind someone who is greedy, corrupt, opportunistic, untrustworthy, unprincipled, immoral.

The NS programme is sponsored by the rakyat. The government’s money comes from the tax-paying rakyat, not the PM or DPM or the BN.

Therefore, people managing this programme should minimise cost and maximise results. The AGENTS should not use this as an opportunity to make it rich by taxing the suppliers - bus operators, food-caterers, cleaners, laundry operators etc.

If the AGENTS cannot provide national service to this country, what kind of NS programme are we running for our youths?

I'm absolutely sure that in Malaysia, we can still find people who love people first and love money last.

One such example is Jeff Ooi.

JEFF OOI says: I swear to God. I need to work for money, and sometimes place money before people I dislike.

Can somebody translate the Oriental Daily article. Babel gave me this confusing mess;

North yesterday, because 19 buses temporarily do not start off, cause horse 3 states (玻璃市, 吉打 and Penang) and 吉蘭丹 the state, reached surpasses 4,000 students not to be able 依時 to ride the bus to join the army, the student was compelled painstakingly and so on several hours, the student is exhausted, guardian also big table discontented, the field pole of the face was chaotic. In view of carries delivers the student the process to have the chaotic aspect, the Arab League all 哈林 expression, the question leaves lies in the bus industry, because this game center and the land route traffic department holds two times of conferences in December, 2006 with the bus industry, also the bus industry two guarantees may carry as agreed in the conference delivers the student.

He disclosed that, this game divides into the big horse 6 areas, each area by a bus industry operation. Gives rise to a question or problem the bus industry, only then just operated for more than 2 years. The A area is responsible for 玻璃市, 吉打 and Penang; The B area is responsible for the thunderclap and 雪蘭莪; The C area is responsible for Malacca, 森美蘭 and Johore; The D area is responsible 吉蘭丹, to ascend fine Lou Chip'eng Henry; E, the F area is responsible for the granulated substance to pull with sand Pakistan. Therefore, this event should involve the A area, the B area and the D area bus industry. As for 吉蘭丹 the state student, will start on a journey on this Friday.

There goes another open season for finger-pointing, while more money goes into more pockets (as good as going down the drain)... while making life more miserable for those who're just recovering from the floods. And then the JPJ has to make such a grand stand for principles, by picking such a 'nice' time.

Sound like "YET ANOTHER $$$$$$ arrangement" issue. Perhaps NS should modify their slogan to N$. Perhaps the DG still think he eligible of credit terms after holding huge amount of payment to the bus company.

BTW, before NS, the southern peninsular flood just reflect the "tidak apa" mentality. With at least a millions of military troops and billions ringgit of resources, I see Najib and Pak Dollah has no intention channel military resources to help the war zone like flood region.

Good luck Malaysia.

I was with Lee LT when he was a plain Encik MP for Bukit Bintang and I as ordinary member of DAP (that goes back some 20+ years!).

I gave hime "nbenefit" of the doubt when others alleged he waas "bought out" when deserting the Opposition at a "crucial" general elections when UMNO breakaway Semangat 46 aligned with DAP and othr opposition to fight the BN.Since then, Lee LT became Datuk, then Tan Sri and sits on the borads of several bluechip listed companies but he flags himself off as a "social activist" which is a LAUGH for the past decade or so, and taints the struggles of other NOG activists. Of course, the Gomen and MSM play him up as a "Chinese rep" when he's actually an UMNO plant, transplant or plague whatever you call him.

Jeff, I support your call 100%to the concerned parties to get out of the kitchen if you can't cook!:(

NS is flawed at its inception. How can anyone instills unity among the youth with a three months programs is beyond me. If the gov is serious about unity. They ought to re-look at the decade old discriminatory policy in school and universities instead.

The RM500mil could be used to give it to the hardcore poor and Mr. Lee might find better satisfaction there rather than getting frustrated with the bus operator.

Yes, I smell a BIG RAT when there was mention of AGENT. Not bout this. When this comes to surface, we imagine greedy people. And next, there shall step in some company / government backed company to do the licensing. All these are rent-seeking moves.

Buat duit cepat. Skim Cepat Kaya. Licensing. Royalty. Easy money in, do nothing much.

We should check - who owns the company which supplies uniforms, etc for NS. Are they proxy for someone else? For a Mr. 10 Per cent?

This is not the full translation from Oriental Daily News, but I hope it helps.

National Service Training Council chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye complained NS Training Department director-general Abdul Halim should be held responsible for the mishap yesterday. His (Abd Halim)subordinates who failed to carry out their duty should resign.

Lee will propose to Defense Minister Abd Najib to remove everybody who did not fulfull their work duties to ensure these mishaps do not happen year after year.

He will also suggest to Abd Najib to use his power to ensure changes in the system in order to regain the people's confidence in the NS program.

Lee in an interview with Oriental Daily said: Those who do not perform should be changed. It is pointless to have people who has no interest in their work.

Lee further pointed out that because of the imcompetence of some, he is left to answer questions and accusations from the public.

Lee said: The director general Abd Halim should bear the biggest responsibility. He (Abd Halim) is in charge of the operations while I (Lee) am in charge of the council matters. Whenever there is any problem, I (Lee) am the one to face the parents and public in their accusations. This is the time to rectify the problem once and for all.

On the other side, when Oriental News asked Abd Halim on this issue, he said he has nothing to say at the moment. He intends to report his findings to the Defense Minister.

Abd Halim added, on the issue of Lee telling him to bear the biggest responsibility on the mishap, he will await further instruction from the Defense Dept. All final decisions belongs to the Defense Dept.

Asked if he (Abd Halim) would apologize to the Defense Minister and Lee, Abd Halim calmly replied, "I have nothing to say. I will wait for the investigation report..."

National Service Chaos, Lee Lam Thye: should sack Director-General - Wednesday, January 03, 2007

(KL) NS Council Chairman LLT said NS DG Abdul Halim should hold bigest responsibility, together with other incompetent officials involved.

He proposed to the Defense Minister, Najib, to sack the NS DG and other incompetent officials, to prevent the same thing from happening year after year.

He pointed out that incompetent officials has led to problems every year, but he is the one who will deal with their problems.

He said: "The Director-General ought to hold up the biggest responsibility. He is in charge of transportation and administration, I'm in charge of the council services, every time there is a problem, I'm the one who will face the parents and blamed, now it's time to re-organise and rectify."

On the other hand, when reporter chased NS DG for answers, he replied: "Now I have nothing to say. I only wanted to complete a report for the Defense Minister."

Abdul Halim said: "Regarding the request by LLT for my resignation, I will listen to the defense minister's instruction. The instructions from the Defense Minister will be the reference."

When inquire whether he will explained to the defense minister and Lee, he said: "I think there is nothing to say, I will complete the investigation report"

Yesterday, because 19 buses did not turn up in the last minute, over 4000 trainees are unable to join the camp on time in 3 northern states (Perlis, Kedah & Penang) & Kelantan. Trainees are forced to wait a few hours and suffered, parents were disatisfied, the situation was a chaos.

Responding to the chaos situation in the transportation of the trainees, Abdul Halim explained that the problems lies with the bus conductors, there should be two meetings in Dec 2006 between the bus conductors and land transport department, and bus conductors must guarantee in these two meetings that they have the permit"

He disclosed that his department divided Malaysia into 6 areas, every area there is one bus company to do the transportation, in those problem areas the bus company just pass 2 years of operation.

Area A in charge of Perlis, Kedah and Penang; Area B in charge of Perak and Selangor; Area C in charge of Melaka, Negeri Sembilan; Area D in charge of Kelantan, Trengganu and Pahang; Area E, F in charge of Sarawak and Sabah. Therefore, the affected areas involved Area A, B and D and respective bus conductors.

At the same time, he emphasised that all trainees were succesfully transported from assembly areas to the training camps, inclusive of the trainees at the LCCT airport, furthermore none of the trainees were left out. Regarding the Kelantan trainees, a journey will be set this Friday.

This is my first hand experience at the registration of my daughter for the NS and subsequent frustrations we faced.

My daughter was asked to register at Car Park C Bukit Jalil Stadium on the 1st of January at 7:30am. We got there at 7am and already there was a long queue to get into the car park. This was due to the collection of RM1.50 to enter the car park.

Can anyone please tell me where in the world one has to pay to enter an open space car park at 7am on a public holiday?

Once in the car park, we noticed that the whole place was in darkness. No, not a single street lamp was lit which made me wonder why I had just paid RM1.50 and for what?

After wandering around in the darkness we managed to find the tent that handled the registrations. There were no signages to indicate that that was indeed the tent. Other tents too did not have any form of signs. One had to approach the tent and ask.

When we finally found the correct tent, my better half and I waited a distance away from the tent while my daughter queued up. There were many parents who busied themselves into the tent surrounding the table seating 4 "officers" making the whole process chaotic to say the least.

It took another "official" to annouce over the bull horn for parents to leave the tent area and that only particpants were allowed in.

Since my daughter was already in the queue the process for her was quick and she was told to get onto any of the buses there heading for KLIA / LCCT as she was bound for the Junaco Park Camp in Sibu, Sarawak.

We managed to find a bus and she got in without without further ado.

My question is why not allocate the bus once registered and therefore reduce confusion and frustrations for both the parents and the trainees?

After waving goodbyes and drying wifey's tears, we got home by 9am. I was quite pleased by the entire registration process and the fact the it took us a mere 3 hours or so to get back home made me feel guilty about mouthing off the NS previously.

That was shortlived happiness as the next 36 hours was .... read on ...

Having arrived at the LCCT around 10am, my daughter found out that the flights to Sibu were not available, not clear about why, and that she had to wait till evening.

Around lunch time all trainess were given RM5 as meal allowance.

Can anyone please tell me where one can get a "fairly" decent meal and a drink in the vicinity of the LCCT for RM5?

About 5pm, the trainees at the airport were told that there were no more flights that day and that they will be taken to Kem Serendah near Rawang for the night.

Arriving there about 7pm a meal was provided and they were told that the bus leaving for the airport will be at 3am the next day.

My daughter and the other trainees arrived at the LCCT about 5am and the wait continued. Around noon after most of the trainees had boarded flights, my daughter and some 20 others were told that their names were not on the passenger list.

And so they continued to wait for the next available flight. About 4pm they were told that the facilities at Camp Junaco was full and that they are to be transferred to the Camp in Kuala Kubu Baru.

It was at this point that I asked my daughter if she still wanted to participate in the NS, to which she asked what if she said no, and I said I will come get her from the LCCT.

I guess the NS "officials" at the LCCT have to thank their lucky stars that my daughter said yes and they were spared my wrath.

I heard from my daughter an hour ago and she is in high spirits and looking forward to her stay there.

I sincerely hope that the NS "officials" in-charge read this and make amends to improve the registration and transportation processes. It is the least they can do to redeem themselves. Passing the buck is not displaying responsibility.

Suffice to say I now fear for my daughter's stay at the camp as I have heard of the goings on in some of the camps. Hopefully my fears are unfounded and that all will be well from now on.

Lam Thye good at blaming..

Is he not part of the NS program team??

LLT should have the courage to down the high road as our think tank analyst.

Resigned.

Yes the passing the buck is going on. The Top NS Salesman Lee LT is blaming the bus operators who in turn blamed the agents and it goes no further?
But the Tan Sri has the passion for NS, In TV last night he said, he talked about NS during breakfast, lunch, dinner & even dream about it when sleeping. But he has no harsh words for the NS Director & the agents only “banned the irresponsible bus operators” Check the details & pictures at:

On a dark and rainy New Year morning, I accompanied a friend who drove his son to the Pandamaran Sports Complex. I went along because I knew the way.

These are my comments:

1. Most trainees were accompanied by parents and other family members including toddlers. So, for every 100 trainees, you get a crowd of 400, and for every 1,000 trainees, you get 4,000 people.

2. Managing large crowds require crowd control skills and event management skills. You cannot allow things to happen “automatically”.

3. Putting up road signs (handwritten will do) will direct motorists to the right location in the vast sports complex. Many cars took the wrong turn, got jammed up and could not turn around. If I had not navigated, my friend would have followed the other cars and got stuck.

4. Putting up larger signs at the tents indicating the registration counters for the respective camps will prevent the crowds from shuffling from tent to tent.

5. The organisers should set up a system that ensures discipline at the registration counters. Instead, there was pushing and jostling among the trainees. Some parents even joined in the jostling.

6. Buses were parked all around. There should be an easier way for trainees to locate their buses. With buses mostly looking alike, I don’t blame many trainees for boarding the wrong bus. While the officers did a good job at checking the passengers inside the bus, the other trainees were left waiting in the sun.

7. My friend’s son was asked to board a certain bus. He queued up, only to be told later that the bus was full. He was directed to another bus, queued up, and again was told it was full. Luckily, he boarded the third bus without any incidents.

8. Parents should be disallowed from climbing into the bus with their children. They prevented other trainees from boarding, and hampered the officer who was checking the trainees’ identification papers.

9. The PA system broke down and the officer could not use the loud hailer to announce the bus licence numbers. Luckily it was fixed after a frantic search for someone (technician?).

10. It rained lightly. I wondered what the crowds would do if it had rained heavily. There was absolutely no shelter.

I do have compliments for the officers on duty. They were friendly, patient and obliging despite being harassed and hassled.

Compared to the horror stories I read in the media about the other centres, I would rate the Pandamaran Centre as pretty good.

Thanks to "beagle" for helping out with Translation of Oreintal Daily's report -- it further helps to understand the context of this issue.

May I add here one point to my earlier Comment: The NS programme started with abbudget of RM500million in the first year. With each year's progression in numbers of intake, the budget is increased by some RM100million every year, and my estimate that this year's would amount to RM700-800million if not RM1billion.

One key question is how and where did the contracts for Uniforms, Transportation and Accomodation and Food are selected and parcelled out. I smell cronyism again, again and again. More monsoon rains, mGf, from Terengganu to Johor to Pulau Pinang so that UMNO division chiefs can be manufactured as Instant millionaires like Maggi Mee? ~~ Desi

Hey guys, in case you are not aware, the bus contractors will have difficulties to deal with government job. Only those company that is Bumi status can. If you are a non-bumi status, then you can only do up to RM10,000 per year business. This is stated clearly on the MOF web site.

When I see the bus assosiation head is a chinese... it is likely that it is not a 100% bumi company. So they have to deal with 3rd-party, a 2-dollar setup, 100% bumi company, to get deal and then only pass to bus assosiation.

I know this sound very race based... but this had been our government policy for years. Unless this policy is changed, otherwise the problem of not doing a good job is always bound to happen. Finger pointing is easily happening.

no wonder. another skim cepat kaya.

If Suruhanjaya Pilihanraya can provide training and briefing to the temporary vote center officers on time, why not the National Service Camp operators cannot be trained prior the actual events?

Don’t they forget the basic thumb of rule: to Train the trainer?

Don’t they forget the experiences experienced the previous years?

The army did a good job when I was selected to attend to The Royal Military Collage training and they handled it very professionally every year. Can’t this expertise being shared?

What about the yearly recruiting of The Royal Malaysian Police, they do perfect job every intake. Didn’t they being invited to supervise on NS?

Is our NS is just like the Youth Wings learn as you go kind of main-main sahaja training and motivation camp?

All budak-budak at work for what I see. Can I help you? Please?

I see better national unity after our youngsters came out from the National Services. Yes, they are now more united and more understanding, ready to throw away the bad and take only the good. And to the government, because they are more matured now. They are trained generasi baru. You better watch out !
