lol! hilarious!

Tourists might find them funny....if they are fluent in Malay...

But then they wouldn't likely be tourists would they?

hmm..am i the only one getting offended? lol.
seriously, i think the link is a serious one..its demeaning the races is msia, and obviously indians are made the lowest level laughing stock with those irresponsible and derogatory remarks!

jeff, maybe you put up the link in jest, or believed in freedom of xpression, or coz u thot the words are not offending, but to tell u my feelings : IT IS INDEED INSULTING..
to call races in such words, ...

i think it is irresponsible for you to put a link to such a post as well. just my opinion, its ur blog anyway..

its not about touching on sensitive issue, or being able to laugh at our own self, tat is fine with me, but to say such terrible things , and i really think indians were made to look xtremely low among those stupid jokes, can be taken as provocative..
:(

man.. i haven't laughed that hard in a while. the whole blog was a good read.

ahhh...BM. in the right hands, it's like a sweet sweet song.

Honestly, the link was interesting and I did have a good laugh at it though it might appear to be derogatory and offensive to some.

Come on Mr. Mandelism, take it easy bro. We are Malaysians!

It was 2 days ago that it was reported in the Star paper of an Indian Muslim association suing Dewan Bahasa Pustaka over the use of "K" word. Words like Keling Karam , Keling mabuk todi etc are listed in the Dewan Bahasa Pustaka dictionary as an official word though derogatory it might seem.

Then again, referring to the Oxford Dictionary, the ever popoular four letter "F" word is also listed there. But that does not mean one can use that word in their official documents etc. A mere utterance of the "F" word in a court proceeding would land one into trouble.

I guess a word gets into a dictionary eventually if it is widely spoken and used though obscene or derogatory it may seem.

Words with racist connotations are not new as you have words like German measles and Dutch wife. Thus, words like jinjang Cina if it is widely used would eventually find its way to a dictionary.

Ok, it's not meant for the faint-hearted. It's even deemed insensitive and over-generalised on each of the races of Malaysia. Some will find it offensive, while others find it funny. To me it may be funny but it also leaves a bad after taste.

Jeff,

Really have a good laugh on that site, esp on the cina jinjang part. This guy is good, man. Reminds me of Dato'LAT cartoons. Neutral yet funny.

I have never laughed so hard for a long time.

There are other topics as well. Please read the others.

I think this guy is a genius.

Hahahaha, I'm laughing my butt off! It's offensive to some but really, the whole Dewan Karut is a class of its own.
Racial integrity is one thing and comedy is another thing. Really.

Lat makes us laugh with his hilarious cartoons that touch the lives of Malaysians. Dewan Karut did it with words.

Sometimes, its the hilarious side of Malaysian that keeps us unique.

Best medicine is laugh, they said.

Although it is a joke, I think the k word is rather offensive la.

Actually the word K is being used widely in Malacca and in a non offensive manner.

Whereas in Nothern Perak region, we use the word H*ndu to refer to an Ind1an. Also, in a bona fide.

You have to read the whole posts in the blog, to really understand the readers intention. and in my opinion, he's not crossing the line... yet.

48 Laws of Power.

I think Son-in-Law has mastered the book.

The recent "First class policies" conference that blamed executioners of policies reflects Law 26. Blame anyone but yourself.

Rugi tak baca buku tu.

Thanks Khairy for making the book real and current.

mandelism,

let's talk about facts. are those description true or not? Just tell me.

Jeff, GRAMMATICALLY, i believe 2 of the 3 peribahasas are offensive.

Where Mabuk Keling and Janji Melayu phrases are reflections of adjectives (kata sifat), Cina Jinjang is a noun (kata nama).

And under Cina Jinjang it was mentioned that one of the characteristic is "dan lain-lain ciri yang tidak lazim terdapat pada orang cina".

But sounds more like a generalization for Janji Melayu as if Malays are the only race to be known to not to honor their promises:
"Penggunaan hanya terhad kepada kaum Melayu saja".

Keling mabuk carries with it some hideous and nasty prejudicial imageries of 'Indian crooks' with todi and parangs in their hands:
"...terjadi semenjak lahirnya todi dan Samy Vellu"... well as if crooks from other races have never been caught drunk

let me answer.
dear mr.jeffdaman,
are the descriptions true?
I shall put it in a question form to answer your Q.
are anwar, tdm, abdullah a terrorist? is your muslim neighbor a terrorist?

Just bcoz some terrorist are muslims , doesn't mean all muslim are terrorist, im sure all of us are sick of listening to this kind of "perbandingan" rite? yet, we fail to practice it when it comes to our own hat. GENERALIZATION is not the way you "label" ppl according to races. It shows pure lack of sensitivity, rational thinking, and well..intelligence, both the writers and so call advocates of such writings.

Mr.thomas ,
yes, I am taking it really easy though, even as a Malaysian, really I am. Coz if i didn't take things up easy, it would be a demo/protest/police reports/crying foul in media and wats so not..the usual thing done by "I-shout-louder-than-you " politicians..

We are all fine with the jokes, but promoting such jokes is ILL-intended.Seditious in nature.

I likened this situation to the famous cartoon-strip that NST printed, on what most-muslims and some non found it insulting. While the content, insulting or not, is debatable, and still is, the very nature act of printing it is not appropriate. Even this blogger Mr.Ooi put out all-out war against the NST, but now Screenshot is doing the same. Putting a link to such a degrading "jokes" is as equivalent to what NST did, so Mr.Jeff Ooi, if you think what NST did was wrong, you are wrong as well.

JEFF OOI says: Interesting. The jury is still out. Here's a trend-setting precedent for you to start your learning curve.

Of course, it is funny, making jokes at people is funny, and being able to laugh at our own self is even funnier, but would you really say its Ok, if sum UMNO politician were to say ...argh, i should skip my stupid quote sentence..at least im sensitive enough ;p

As some readers pointed out as well, "f" word is a word in dictionary, so does it permits to usage of such words in Parliament? why not teach in schools? Same goes here, while DBP did inserted those words in their dictionary, it is DEROGATORY.

lol, thkx for the cool reply Mr.Jeff.

Guess then NST shouldn't be made to be liable for what they print, quoted or unquoted.

JEFF OOI says: Another starting point for your learning curve. Malaysia's Press is government under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (PPPA) while the Internet is governed under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Two different sets of laws and two different sets of jurisdiction. While the former is draconian and archaic, the latter is self-regulatory, liberal and globally contemporary. So your arguments? The jury is still out.

That is cool. Maybe tomorow I can read in Mkini that forwarding their links to every 5 people would mean the wats not Charity Foundation donate RM0.02. Or the rule just works for websites?

aah, and since when we start using US' jurisdiction policy?

JEFF OOI says: I said it's a trend-setting precedent. The Australian cylaw is making changes to embrace the regime, while Malaysian cyberlaw (CMA 1998) was tailored after Australia's. keyword: "Trend-setting precedent". You were not listening well.

Lighten up, fellers. There's a difference between poking fun at racial traits and hurtful racist comments. I believe, the terms in the article provided are of the former, and you need to laugh with the world, not let them laugh at you.

Peace. Out.

aaa..guest i did overlooked that "Trend-setting precedent" , my misstake.

as you say, The jury is still out. ;)

mandelism,

Ok ok, I didn't say all Chinese is Cina Jinjang or so on. But in fact, there are really some "acted" like that.

Sorry if it's really offensive. But I'm talking more on the action rather than giving the races a bad "title"...

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
