Dollah Kok Lanas
DKL thinks Malaysia's free-est media was during the time when Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj was the prime minister. This Tan Sri still considers himself a national record being the only Group Editor-in-Chief who was fired in the early days of the Abdullah Administration. He said his sin was criticising Saudi Arabia, not Malaysia.
Last night, at a public forum, I asked him whether YB Zigzag and Tengku Pushy are still in circulation. He said they are, and very much.
DKL concluded his presentation by asking 'thinking Malaysians' to always question this when reading the local mainstream media: "What's behind the story. Ask Why? Why? Why?"
Comments
"What's behind the story. Ask Why? Why? Why?" ? Indeed. And not only the mainstream media. On your very own blog too, and with regards your own comments too.
Something you wrote on two occasions had been causing me to ask "Why? Why? Why?" continually, and I had posed this to you on January 16, 2007 at 09:30 PM:
"don't compromise our wish to untangle the problems"?
Are you saying that by insisting on Dr M being held
accountable for his past mistakes I am somehow
compromising efforts to untangle the toll nightmare?
In other words, if only I (and those who are like-minded)
would only stop pushing for Dr M to be made to be made
accountable, Dr M will act quietly and the solution for the
toll nightmare will be easier to reach?
(See the full reply I had posted for the reasons why I posed you the question.)
Incidentally, in the same comments posting I had also replied to the questions you posed me "Satisfied with hitting your hatred at one man, and you offer no solutions to resolving the toll issue, and you walk just like that? If Talk Is Cheap at least say you AGREE with Mahathir's suggestion to renego the concession contract, and take it up with the present Abdullah administration..."
JEFF OOI says: Let the record stay, brother. You have chosen to stare at and rant about the PAST while I had chose to analyse the PRESENT and propose wellbeing for the FUTURE. So, let's allow Screenshots readers -- thinking Malaysians? -- to ask us both: "What's behind the story. Ask Why? Why? Why?"
Though I have been consistently asking too many of the WHYs in the Iast 4 years that I blogged, I don't want to be the person casting the first stone -- there were more of the like-minded before me -- nor am I going to claim the last say, for this journey of critical thinking is but along-haul for everyone so long as there are people whose talk is cheap just by wedging a personal hatred against one man in history, and in this case, I categorically mean you personal hatred against Mahathir. But your personal vendetta is NOT relevant to the wellbeing of the general populace of Malaysians.
No, our future is decided by our deeds today. while past can't be reversed. You have your rights to your mindscape. Make full use of it and benefit from it.

"Work with me. Not for for me" - What this suppose to mean?
Sacked for criticizing Saudi Arabia? Hey, Msia's PM is not the puppet of Saudi Arabia's. Or, is he?
Name another regime that silenced critics immediately after obtaining power.
Saddam Hussein's regime!

The thing is, how do you unangle 22 years of Dr. M's policy, unless you nationalise the whole lot. This will cost even more money. The sanctity of the contracts are sometimes doubtful as the government signed on behalf of TNB on IPP issue through the EPU. The EPU if I am not mistaken falls under the Prime Minister's dpartment (Not the finance ministry). Therefore, if Dr.m is blur on toll issues, can we blame badawi if he is equally blur on other issues regarding the country?

Agreed, Jeff. It is for each and every Malaysian in particular, and Screenshots readers in general, to decide for themselves "What's behind the story. Ask Why? Why? Why?". We have both had our turns on the soapbox (and I note that my comments both here and in the comments section of "Anti-toll: One angry couple" remain intact). We are each entitled to our "mindscape".
And I remind myself again - while we are diametrically opposite in our views about Dr M, his mistakes and how that should be handled, we are both in our vastly different ways, hoping to contribute towards a happy (or at least happier) end to the toll nightmare issue.

Yes, but the past holds many lesson to teach us how to act for the future. Those who commit wrongs against the taxpayers to enrich themselves either to retain power or to gain corrupt funds at the taxpayers expense should be punished (to satisfy the the loss and anguish of those who suffered) but more important to set an example to deter those who may be tempted to act in similar corrupt fashion. It will not better the future if the corrupt past leaders are allowed to get away scot free. It will only be an example to the future leaders that they too can get away scot free - which we are seeing today!

To veritas and many disagree with Jeff. Yes, the past holds many lessons to teach us how to act for the future. The question is, have you learned from it?
If you have, you would look forward into future and do something that make sure it won't happen again. You can't change the past anymore.
So remember well what happened in the past and remember well what is your objective for the future. DO NOT make the same mistake again to let those corrupted leader scot free when you have the opportunity to make a different.
I hope you get the point.
We all can make a different if we all act together, NOW and TODAY, consistently.
So far I know I can make a different by voting Oppostiion party. I realize that Opposition party won't actually able to form the government, but I know they will get more voices if there are more of them inside the Parliment. You could also come forward to join the party to create even bigger crowd.
Besides this, I also look into other things such as attending forum that discuss about the polical affairs in the country and get myself understand the REAL situation, which will help me to make the correct judgement.
