Milestone: 3,000 and still counting
December 30, George Bush said: "Bringing Saddam Hussein to justice will not end the violence in Iraq, but it is an important milestone on Iraq's course to becoming a democracy that can govern, sustain, and defend itself."
December 31, the number of US servicemen who perished in Iraq reached the somber milestone of at least 3,000 deaths since the March 2003 invasion.
In comparison, there were 2,973 deaths during the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, and there were American casualties of 2,395 deaths during Pearl Harbour 1941.
Going by history, America's first humiliating defeat was during the Vietnam War (1959 - 1975). Even today, the number of Americans killed, military and civilian, is open to debate and uncertainty. The numbers range between 57,605 to 58,159.
Milestone? Give Bush two more years for his (conditions-based) victory strategy!

Looks like it is becoming a "millstone" around the neck of Bush. How will he take it off ? Or will he leave it as his legacy for the next president?

Damned. What Justice?
If Saddam deserve to die, when will JUSTICE be served on the Americans (who support Bush), and Britons (who support Blair) for directly or indirectly causing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis being killed and maimed. Damned again on the white Christian supremacy.

Will thses statistics sway Bush for a pull out? To equate civilians death to military is ridiculous. Thank God for Bush, there will be no retreat but more likely an announcement of surge in troops. Till today, US troops have not lost a single battle in Iraq. Thats a stats you should keep in mind. I'm also amused with some of the readers throwing out a John Hopkins survey that 'suggest' 650,000 Iraqi civilians death. This has already been proven to be baseless. Talk about Pearl Harbor is interesting. If this incident never occurred and the US did not join the Allies in WW2, do you think Malaysia will be an independent state ? Negotiate/'TALK' with the Japanese or the Nazis for our independence? Malaysians are fortunate to have never ever needed to fight for much and thank god for that, but to sit here and criticize and in someway celebrate US setbacks is shameless. Millions of Americans had fought and sacrificed in foreign land and all they asked in return is land to bury their dead - the shore of Normandy? What have M'sians done to promote freedom and peace in this world? Myanmar?Negotiate with the Junta's?The UN is rubbish - look at Africa. So, before we start cheering for a US defeat, think of what the world will be like if they loose the 'will' to fight. The only issue I have with the US is that they fought a politically correct war and a war of rules etc. War is nothing but to kill ppl and break things and I hope the US will start to fight a war decisively and let the press and all we know nothing commentators spew as much crap as we want later. The terrorist are loosing no matter how we look at it. To believe that these group are winning is a fantasy. There are not more of them today than prior to 9/11 but they are more exposed and we are made more aware of their activities. When Zawahiri recorded a tape recently and congratulated the Democrats on their recent victory and hopping for a lame duck Bush says plenty. The MSM in the US and of course the great BBC is cheering for a pullout and defeat but hopefully Bush will hold firm and history will judge him well.

The criminal injustice belted out to Saddam stinks of the arrogance of the Retard Bush. How can any human being ever repect the leaders of America, Britain & Australia after the way in which they have plundered Iraq & massacred innocent civilians in the name of 'fighting terrorism'? 'Terrorism' threatening these three countries is not in the form of militants but the easily available drugs that is enslaving their youth daily consuming & smoking heroin, cocaine, speed & topping up all that shit with alcohol. The majority of the citizens of these countries are no less than a 'terrorist' in the manner in which they practice racialism. How much more worst will the situation get before 'terrorism' is brought 'under control'? This will be the plain white joke of the 21st Century!

But Remy,
Iraq under Saddam had nothing to do with Twin Tower attck nor AlQaeda nor Osama.
To equate the fight in Iraq with fight against terror is equally nonsense.
Whilst I agree we do owe 'some' of our liberty to Americans during WW2, the American Govt is gradually and surely making the world a more dangerous place, so much so, we have lost the the feeling of indebtedness that we had.
The atrocities that Saddam was punished for was done while he was an ally of the American Govt, with chemicals bought from Germany. All above board i.e with the US and European consent, unlike the secretive Iranian nuclear plans.
Like you, I hope history will judge Bush&Blair as what they really are..

It is quite sad that there are still many people still think Bush and Americans are the world hero. Do you still think US attacks Saddam Hussein because he's a dictator? There are more worse dictators in this world but why is it that US is not bothered to help? Well, that's other part of the story.
Personally I will prefer to be under Saddam Hussein than US now. At least during Saddam Hussein period, I still know whether I will still be alive to see tomorrow or not. I'll have food on the table for my family and clean water to drink too.
Sadly but it's a reality, people from Middle East are generally more barbaric. They simply cannot live in a democratic system. There are just too many warlords to control. Only ruling with an iron fist will able subdue these warlords.
The problem with most modern influenced (Western) minds is that they always think of one system fits all. Even simply things like food, you cannot force other people to eat your best food in the world, the durian.
Now, if compare to the 2 evils, Saddam and Bush, I personally think Bush is the bigger evil. His main purpose of attacking Iraq is oil, not humanity (more human is to suffer and he knows it before hand). He lied for supports to attack Iraq. He doesn't concern for Iraqi's safety, health and their basic needs and infrastructures. He only cares for the oil infrastructures. He infuels more hatred thus increases supports for radical groups.
In brief, Bush did more damages and less benefits than Saddam. He should be the one to hang but as usual, public marketing and relation is great tool to make the devil to look better than God.
