Rummy gone, Dummy & Scummy stay
Dubya accepts responsibility for Republicans' losing the grip over the Congress in the midterm election which concluded 24 hours ago. I watched up live on CNN early this morning. He's now a big lame-duck.

As a consequence of the new political landscape, Defence Minister Donald Rumsfeld immediately tendered his resignation -- some say he was ditched by the President -- to pave the way for "fresh perspective" on Iraq -- a realpolitik speak for admission of guilt over the failed Iraqi campaign.

Why the hurry for Rumsfeld to resign? That remains an unknown and I'dlike to quote him:
The UnknownAs we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.— Feb. 12, 2002, Department of Defense news briefing
Rummy will be replaced by former CIA operative of 26 years, Robert Michael Gates.
Thus far, the other architect of the tainted Iraqi Invasion, vice president Dick 'Scummy' Cheney, hasn't surfaced in any press opportunity.
In the midterm election, the Dems have reclaimed a convincing majority in the House of Representatives, while leading the GOP 50-49 in the Senate, with Virginia too close to call.
Here's a glance of the election results.

The midterm election also saw the Dems making a political first by voting in a Muslim to serve in the U.S. Congress. The man is. Keith Ellison, a Minnesota state legislator and lawyer.
Comments
The replacement of Rummy with an ex CIA operative will not make much difference - it will be the same meal served on a different platter. The leadership is just too thick headed to make sensible decisions. Maybe the next decision will be to hang Saddam and then make a quick exit from Iraq when the blood bath starts between the Shi'ites & Sunnis. Can't expect much from the Coalition of the Pea Brained idiots!

Just wondering if our venerable Tun Mahathir is embarassed by his confident prediction that Bush would not be humiliated.
Well the US electorate is a much much different kettle of fish from the Malaysian variety whose lack of sophistication TM has of course benefitted in the past till Kubang Pasu.
Nonetheless what the US voters did should be an inspiration for us that the most effective and powerful means we have to change the political landscape is via the votes in our hands.
When the time comes, go out and vote for ABBN (Anybody But Barisan Nasional).

It would be nice if we can have a mid-term election to vote for a change. Sigh! Mostly day-dreaming.

I wish that the next person to go is Dick Cheney coz according to CNN he was the architect of the Iraq war. For the first time in 12 years the Democrats have seized power in both houses. I hope they will not be too giddy savouring their victory and get down to work undoing the mess Bush and his cohorts have created. Tis' gonna be an interesting 2 years for Bush. I'm glad that during his press conference, he took a reconciliatory approach and admitted being "thumped" (heh!heh! I like that word). I'm expecting fireworks in Capitol Hill from now on.
