'Perhaps Rafidah needs to be reminded who pays her salary'

Listen Fat Lady.

That's what Michael Backman says in his latest column about wastage in Malaysia.

And today, he reiterates what he said and promised 11 days ago, in his column titled: Malaysia bites back and industriously trades the insults:

Malaysia needs to do something. Its oil will run out soon and it has lost much of its appeal to foreign investors — recent UN figures show that from 2004 to 2005, foreign investment in Malaysia fell by 14 per cent, when the world economy was enjoying one of its longest periods of growth. One might wonder what the Trade and Industry Minister has actually been doing.

Thanks readers Leo Lim, Esmond Liew and Colin Charles for the alert.

But you still think the Fat Lady is someone handling Malaysia's international trade that's so indispensable?

a winner knows how to accept comments (good and bad) and make use it to his advantage.... to mend his wrong ways!

IMPROVE!

a loser only knows how to lash out...

Rafidah s doin it....

well our govmnt certainly has de knack of shooting their own foot by coming up with absurd stuff huh...

Somehow I am of the opinion that Rafidah is totally oblivious to what others think of her.

And if what the Aussie mentions is correct and there is proof, Rafidah needs a jail term.

guys, can tell me what's the rafidah's corruption allegations about in 1995? i wasn't political aware at that time. Let me know if there's anywhere i can get this info. Cheers-eng

she was riding on Tun Mahathir's wave during his tenure, and now doing the same thing during Pak Lah's.

she s done enough screwing up in stuff already, and the least she could do is lash out to the Malaysia Bodoh comment.

as much as i am offended gettin my country called bodoh by a non-malaysian,

but its true! current happenings, dumb projects , rampant corruption, mis handling of national money, wrong moves by the govmnt, getting tangled up in petty matters when there are loads of other more important matter at hand, blantant racism - come on! how INSECURE can you be...?

do you know dat the non-malay bumis hardly even get the bumiputera status treatment...?

admit it. its for the votes only!

wats with the racial thing, when the nation is down in the gutter(when its too late..!) cuz u get too busy playin with equal equity, shares of wealth!

i cant believe that the politicians, who when they shd be confident with their rakyat , is so INSECURE of their status in the perlembagaan!

no wonder the "Boleh " became "Bodoh"...!

ive seen several current politicians go through the transformation of being "Boleh" o "Bodoh" as a result of blind racism and over reaction!

its hujan emas di negeri orang. hujan batu in my own negeri. but it raining bricks already! it just got worse.

now we have concrete (pun intended) reason to migrate out, and the goverment will have to change A LOT to stop the brain drain in the very near future!!!

Got it...

Thanks anyway

who's paying her salary?
The official one or the unofficial one.......?

hehehe....

nice one. salary/"komisyen" /bonus/ incentive....?

my fav : "HABUAN"...

pick de right word people....
lol

what she gets from her salary is nothing compare with her other "dealling"...

I wonder why AP worth so much? Hmm...

AAB had the best chance to get rid of her when Tun was on a warpath on the AP issue, but poor AAB, for not doing anything..now she is his burden.

just too much already, why after all these issues and etc, our pm still keep quiet and did not do anything? as always silence....

everything that this author said is true and unless she got nothing to hide, she don have to complain so much.

remember during the AP issues when Tun 'shoots' at her? she was 'scared' cos Tun was still popular at that time. but now she lashes back at him. don ask me why but i'm starting to hate the bn leaders. all just scared....

maybe Tun era is bad, they have a limit and Tun himself personally did interfere with the current issues, but now....worst of the worst. everyone seems to let things to settle down by itself. and as a citizen, we cant really questions our right too.

a good leader should accept critism but........

Who is that jailed activist by the way?

jeffdaman,

Parti Keadilan Rakyat youth chief Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor.

Details available in the link given by eng above.

Whoa! She's famous overnight. Root cause? Denial at the outset rather than doing something positive about it.

Stand aside, Alex, Nicol, Azhar, bolehnauts, PM, and ex-PM.

Bad boy, Mike, by placing her in the limelight and shadowed the rest.

"who pays her salary?"

Naza?

all that is said falls on deaf ears.

without a credible opposition, not just one that talks, but one that is given the chance act.

Until then perception is that no one else can do the job beside the incumbent.

ahh well, we are a young democracy. australia is a 100 year old democracy. GROWING PAINS.

all a part of growing up.

hopefully all this pain is worth it for a better future for the future generation.

more maturity when it is time to vote.

Like they said.... It (FDI problems) ain't over till thefat lady sings..

Jeff, I suggest that we start a signature campaign to bring Rafidah to justice for all her corrupt practice and send the memorandum to the PM. Even if the PM does not want to respond to this memorandum at least we get this issue highlighted to Malaysians.

i was having dinner with a fren just now and he told me the following.

one of his fren is malaysia's sportsmen, and he said all chinese and indian sportsmen in malaysia are very badly treated.

especially indian athletes..one is promised rm80k cash prize plus a proton perdana if he wins the gold medal in one of the commonwealth games sports..it's running i think..he won..and the government gave stupid reason and he did not get what was promised...

then all the chinese and indian athletes when go oversea..they are only allowed to carry one luggage and do not have any allowances at all..where else..malays athletes are allowed to carry as many luggages as they like...some even carry huge packages of rice..and overweight for more than half a tonnes..plus they are given allowances...

this was told to me by a friend.. can someone out there clarify this information??? no wonder our sports performance is screw up..

Perhaps the CORRECT question is: who hired her? And put the blames squarely where it belongs.

This is my experience with working for many managers. I always wonder how hiring managers based their knowledge on what kind of person is fit for what function?

In the political arena, not just Malaysia, we see many ministers appointed to position that they do not have the qualifications to make things happened. And then you see the hiring manager kept refusing to get rid of the person. The most notable one is Ramsfeld, the x-defence minister of Bush.

In a democractic society we, the voters, can elect our political party. BUT, we cannot elect our ministers. Which I think should be change. The right way is to allow the voters to elect their own president (such as the US), but also key ministers. Not only this would take away the power from the president(prime minister) from candidates unqualified for the job, this would also remove 'corruptions of power' at the top.

it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

and this fat lady has sung quite loudly, but nothing seems to be over at all. as much as i was happy with the new head of administration, i was very doubtful that any real change would ever come about as long as the 'old school' was still festering the disease we know as the administration. and as much as i still have a small measure of faith in the new head, i also fear that when you 'kill the body, the head will die'.

hey, she said she doesn't give a hoot to backman's article as backman is a foreigner but will only be concern if it is from a malaysian. well, now you all here are malaysians responding to backman's article... with views of her... will she be concerned? fat chance eh!

as much as i hate the fat lady, unless lim kit siang and all of us wear a red tudung, white baju kurung and red sarong and vote her out, she's not going anywhere ! don't waste your breath.

Hopefully, the government know what they are doing but things don't look that bright the way I see it. No future!

the other door...."Hopefully the govt knows what they are doing??"

you mean "hope AAB knows what he is doing.."

Your guess as good as mine.

As to whether she gives a hoot to Beckman's article, she is so heavy on her head..she don't give a hoot to anyone including exPM, I don't think the fat lady gives a damn to AAB.

Said my earlier post..she is AAB's burden.

art chan

and de burden is gonna get worse if he does not do anythn abt it. we ve taken too much crap from her, and de least she could do is retaliate de way she did to de Backman article, cuz it clearly shows she s uneasy abt it. heyy. if ure not wrong, buat apa mau takut ...?

art_chan, i agree dat she's AAB's burden. and he should know wat to do [i really do] when he sees the results of the upcoming electio soon.

The govmnt shd know dat more and more people are getting uneasy with them. worse compared to Tun's time. Heck i think the negative view towards de govmnt is worse than de one during Anwar-period election...!

Poor AAB is like a voice in the middle of some noisy crowd. His call for anti-corruption just drown out before it reaches the audience. Just look at how he talk about it in the recent UMNO GA. His call for anti-corruption almost reduced to a mere wishper. Of course none of those UMNO goons' gonna give a hood about what he says. Those corrupt guys like Datuk Z just carries on with their merry way to continue with their plunder till the cows come home. As far as I'm concerned, BN is corrupted to the core. Until & unless BN is voted out, we'll continue to see... BN, as in "Barang Naik"!!!

poor dude s got his hands full. and he s got no time to settle the probs in hand cuz dumb followers keep bringing up lame ideas, solutions and creating more problem!

no more space under the carpet to hide de trash la....

As Malaysia sinks more and more into the economic doldrums we see the fat lady in denial even though the facts are right under her nose. We are indeed losing our competitiveness against our neighbours and being in denial won't improve the situation at all. I'm sure Pak Lah is facing a dilemma now. This is what the Malays term as "Menanggung biawak hidup" literally means having to carry a live monitor lizard behind your back. Rafidah can't be sacked or taken to court over her crimes coz she's immune. See? Pak Lah just don't have the guts to act against her coz she's the bossy type (or in Florence Littauer's book Personality Plus - a choleric: someone who likes to be in charge, stubborn and always thinks she's right). Ponder upon the facts: A cabinet minister holding the post as Wanita UMNO leader can and will enjoy immunity from prosecution. Just accept the fact that in Malaysia Boleh, s**t happens. Don't despair however, the truth will eventually come out.

There would be no wastage if there's no patronage. It would have been laughable were it not so tragic that the umnoglots are showing the same patronage amongst themselves that they were presumably forced to do so under the four centuries of mat-salleh colonialisation that they say they want to shake off. How can you shake off something that no longer exists but not shake off something that you have created to replace it?

While the rest of the progressive world has shaken off the ghost of colonialisation and put the supremacy of brains and brawns on the line, they have continued to substitute past colonialisation at the hand of foreign powers with the present colonialisation by umno elites over everyone else.

A few nice words here and there, some fiery speeches against the other communities ever so timely, a sprinkling of bank notes before election, with some titles, contracts, concessions and junket trips after - with these how can there be no waste?

Yet we know once power is consolidated, the vault doors are open wider and they bring in the bulldozer - dig dig dig. Even Snow White's dwarfs don't work that hard.

As with that Toyo who has the nerve to publicly remind who pays their salaries, Rafidah should too. Unless what she's drawing from other sources is so big that what she draws from her gomen source is too insignificant for her to remember that she's a public servant.....

They're all good at saying the word 'project', bad at explaining how exactly these 'projects' will juice up the bottomlines of all the rakyat. They're worse at satisfactorily explaining where all duh money gone.

They're good at giving excuses why the ACA can't move, bad at explaining how their assets have come about.

They're good at goofing up national image, bad at saving face and grace.

They're good in all the negative things, bad at all the good things.

'F' is not just the grade you will give them. 'F' is also the namebrand of french-connection uk, they say...

Haha... good one Neil.

Anyway, I think the fat lady is more of an entrepreneur rather than a government servant, don't you think? Otherwise, why do you think she's doing everything she can to hangon to her ministerial position? If there is nothing to gain there, why hangon to it for so long?

Same thing goes with the SemiValue guy. Damn! This guy must have been there since I was just a few years old for crying out loud! Is he really still needed there after all this bloody years???

try to read hansard 15-nov-2006 from pg 23-26 ... the space program looks quite noble.
