Kerishamuddin

I was reading Aishehman, and then re-reading Jacqueline Ann Surin's story in theSun (Nov 20) titled: Disquiet over piquant polemics, and I am very saddened and depressed.

This is 2005.

This is 2006.

If this is the way Umno goes down to, I don't dare to put a date to this heralding message.

It's not about stopping the live telecast of Umno general assembly. It about Umno people not heeding Abdullah Badawi's well crafted keynote address which worries me. And Aisehman observed:

The delegates obviously didn't give two hoots about Pak Lah's advice.

Obviously.

But wait a minute. If I'm not wrong, the speeches are vetted at multiple levels beforehand.

The delegates rarely stray in any significant manner from the approved text.

And isn't it ironic that the first time all the action is brought to you live on TV is when the Hidup Melayu rhetoric is turned up full blast?

So what do we have here?

You tell me.

Yes, you tell me. Even now pro-Pak Lah Pak Non says Umno delegates have adhered to the script.

Let's keep our feelings guarded, our eyes wide open.

Yes, this is indeed sad. What is more saddening is that the Govt is doing nothing to "reprimand" these speakers.

Our Honourable DPM said that future General Assembly's may not have live telecast anymore because it paints an inaccurate pic. of the Party as these are inexeperienced speakers who got carried away and played to the galery.

Our DPM has to be applauded for saying that but to prove his point, action should be taken against those speakers.

next year and the next year and the next..if Hisham is still the leader...he will continue to wave the kris...me thinks it is a substitute for something else he can't wave in public, or that is the only thing he can hold in his hand.

This reminds me about a joke about people who ride big bikes..the bigger the bikes, the smaller the marble...maybe it is also true for kris waving fanatics.

Honestly, I can shake of the thinking of Boxer rebellion in 19th century China.

Haha, lovely title and how aptly suited too.

So, in 2005 he helds the Keris up. In 2006 he kisses it. So in 2007 will he be using it?

The thought of that sends shivers down my spine albeit knowing that the delegates are 'wearing another hat' while in the PWTC where the Assembly was held.

But isn't it lovely we; the rest of the non-UMNOputras get to view THAT particular picture and also the rest of the UMNO Assembly Proceedings LIVE on telecast?

It sure does paints an inaccurate picture as noted by DPM Datuk Najib however the damage has been done.

Are we going to have this guy to lead Malaysia one day? Rather than focusing on how to develop the Malays and making the country more competitive, UMNO General Assembly has been turned as an assembly to stir up racial hatred and inciting aggression towards the non Malay as if the non Malays is the parasites of the country. These people welcomes the illegal immigrants from neighbouring country with easy access and PR qualification but perpetually viewing fellow countryman especially the Chinese origin as the enemies of the Malays. Are the UMNOputeras so incompetent to the extent that the only response to the non Malays request for reviewing the affirmative action for the hope to make the country more competitive is to go amok. Is that the best they can do? Are they not able to sit down and discuss with rational manner? Must every request for reviews of issues deemed to be sensitive to be greeted with aggressive psychotic amok threatening behaviour?

Nearly 50 years of independence and we have become a country that is breaking up. I hope I am so wrong on this topic.

I am looking forward to next year's UMNO GA. The odd is high that next year's performance is on-stage martial art with keris.

While Kerishamuddin draws his keris,
Ong K TaiChi continues to "tai chi" the chinese community,
Semmy "tol" veloo continues to shout "saya sokong" while collecting toll
Lim "cabut lari" KY leaving these shiiit to his deputy

Dear Jeff,
No matter what rhetoric is used or weapon drawn, I will tell my childern that we are Malaysians by birth and death. I do not believe that everyone share the view of a few cowards that bully behind a badge. What is wrong with the previous era? Didn't we live in relative peace and wealth. Didn't we show that power can be shared? Please...Please let all good men stand up now!

It is indeed very sad and extremely disappointing to see such rhectoric being belted out at the recently concluded UMNO GA, at this day and age. The Malay battlecry is no longer revelant today and yet is being resurrected unabashedly and unashamedly at the gathering of the nation's premier political party to rile sentiments. What's the purpose? What has nation come to? Has it nothing left to offer? To me, it has merely taken more than just a few steps backwards. There is much economic repercussions as investors think twice about putting their moolahs into this 'fanatical' country where one is willing to 'bathe in blood' in defence of their religion and their race.

IMHO, all this jazz merely serves to divert this country from the real issues at hand and is setting a scene for the blame game. At the end of the day, when Malaysia fails to achieve Vision 2020, who are UMNO and the Govt going to blame? Themselves? Most definitely not. Yep, we are an Indonesia 1997 in the making.

This country is truly going to the dogs and never before have I felt this way before. With rather impressive GDP figures constantly churned out by Bank Negara, most are lulled into thinking that all is well. This is definitely not so. Speak to the business community and you know that the economy has been in ill health for the past year. So you say whatever you want about Mahathir-ism but to me at least, he is the better of the 2 devils, economically speaking.

Last but not least, we have our bodoh-nauts going into space to play traditional malay games, to spin gasings, to make teh tarik and to paint batik. I suddenly feel very ashamed of Malaysia. Is it what the 'Malaysia Boleh' spirit is all about? If it is, then I hope it will die soon.

George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' aptly describes the current political climate and economic undertones of this country. We have Pak Lah preaching that everyone would be treated fairly and yet unless you are a bumiputra company, you may continue to find it tough doing business in Malaysia. Yep, everyone is equal but there are some more equal than others.

Folks

The amok-prone, mouth-frothing, keris wielding UMNO Youth Leader IS OUR EDUCATION MINISTER.

This fact should NOT be forgotten.

I think we should make plenty of copies of the these two photos and distribute to ALL THE SCHOOLS in Malaysia, to tell our young children in primary and secondary schools that THIS IS THE EXAMPLE THEY ALL SHOULD FOLLOW FROM THEIR MINISTER.

So that they, the future generations of Malaysians, will also be AMOK-PRONE, RACIST BENT, MOUTH-FROTHING AND KERIS WIELDING Malaysian leaders in Govt and private sector.

God help Malaysia and our young Malaysians.

Pak Lah MUST TAKE THE BLAME for appointing this amok-prone grandson of Datuk Onn Jaafar to be the leader of our school children.

There is so much heaviness in the air of late, what with the year-end monsoon bringing clouds and rain. It is also heavy with racist polemic, with a siege (fortress) mentality. Was there a siege going in this country? I didn't know nor realise that Malaysia is under attack by any enemy. Was that a war-drum I am hearing coming from the UMNO building, keris unsheathed, and ready to strike the enemy? But who is the enemy?

I don't want to be anybody enemy, I want to be able to live in peace in this country. This is a rich country, very beautiful, very peaceful. I only want to earn enough to provide for my family, take care of my aging parents, let my child grow up in security and with love. I'm sure a lot of my friends out there also want the same, or maybe something like that if not the same, for themselves and their loved one.

What is there to fight about? Figthing will only destroy what we cherish. Fighting and killing will only make widows and orphans cry out all the more. Fighting will only shed blood. I want to share my blood with those who need it, those in the hospital, those in pain.

There is a lot to done for this country. A lot of people are still struggling to make ends meet, a lot people are still without work, there is still a lot to learn, to unravel, to marvel about.

For a moment my heart thought that all the Malays are raising their keris, ready for war. But I am glad to hear of one other who question this stupidity, an another who express his disgust at this idiotic drama. And my little heart says many more are also laughing at this public striptease.

Come to think of it, how can Malay disappear from this world? There is so many of them, they will disappear from this world or rather from history if they choose to.

So come, come, my dear Malay friends, let us work together to build a better future for all of us. There is so much to do, many hands are needed to do the work, after all you have a saying that the heavy we shoulder together, the light we carry together, or something like that.

Regards

I really look forward to 2007 when he uses it. Give me a Magnum anytime.

As Clint "Dirty Harry" Eastwood would say "Go on, make my day."

It makes me wonder why Badawi's closing speech took a 180 degree turn from all that was said in the previous 3 days. Obviously the major media only commented the response of their so called friends in the BN which made everything sound wonderful and giving Badawi this so called clean image.

Fact is after running out of enemies and bogeymen outside the BN itself, this time around the target was none other than MCA and Gerakan and their leaders. They hardly even scratched the opposition or Lim Kit Siang, their favourite bogeyman. And as expected we all saw how well trained and compliant the MCA and Gerakan leaders were in quietly ass-licking their UMNO masters. UMNO has made good ass-lickers of MCA, Gerakan and MIC.

This is such a shameful country and Badawi is just about making it worse.

They do this bullshit and here I am shit scared carefully guarding every word I say or write....WTF!

Lets vote for the opposition. Teach these [ DELETED ] a lesson.

I could not agree more with the views posted by quest that the non-Malays, particularly, the Chinese community is viewed more as a threat and enemy than as a equal Malaysian friend/brother.

It is indeed sad to find that the Govt rather give PR status to non-qualifying , uneducated Indonesians than PR status to highly educated spouses of Malaysian citizens.

Every time during UMNO assembly, the Malay agenda is being brought up urging its members to fight and die "demi Bangsa, Agama dan Negara". I guess the Bangsa is never Bangsa Malaysia. This is the problem with Malaysia having major political parties based on racial lines.

Hence, MCA general meeting is also getting more Chinese with Ong Ka Ting emphasising the use of Mandarin only and Chinese language signages unlike the stance adopted by previous MCA presidents. I have never supported Chinese based organisations like Suqiu etc. But, I guess "demi my own bangsa and agama(non-Islam)" it left me little choice but to support their cause.

Despite 50 years have passed since the British left us, it is indeed sad that Malaysians are more polarised than before. Fighting for each race is the way to go forward and not adopting the moderate and compromising stance.

Does anyone notice that in the pic Khairy looks hesitant. Probably trying to show his multi-racial tolerance side of that two-face of his.

And why are all of them wearing orange bands around their wrists? Was there a Netherlands FC meeting there as well?

As a Malay, I see the kris as a sign of our culture, and that's about it. I don't see it any more different than the Sikh's ceremonial dagger that they are obliged to carry.

But honestly, I think the Opposition should hold the same gathering.

Instead of a keris, I wish them to hold the symbol of all Malaysians need to obey.

Copies of the Federal Constitution, and the Rukunegara.

But seriously, I am fearful that who we see wielding the keris here may very well be a future PM, and that scares the heck out of me.

He's fumbled as Sports Minister and he's fumbling at Lower Education as well. Can you imagine what would happen if he became PM after Najib?

anyone know why umno is so scared of offending indonesia but bully singapore like nobody business ... it's all because all these malays were fugitives (sorry for the word but during that time wars were a norm within indonesia) from indonesia ...

[ DELETED ]

if mahadey is not [ DELETED ] he won't be known as a leader who at least has some brain-cells ... but if you look at those malays (their leader being the kerispudin) who scream at the top of their voice given the chance, you'll be wondering from which jungle this [ DELETED ] escaped from (talk about monkey from upm huh) ...

[ DELETED ]

anyway one thing is for sure, while civilize people think wisely what to say and react accordingly, only the barbarians will shout & scream asking for a fight & bloods without reasoning ...

wonder if we should send orang utan into space instead - might be able to negotiate for a better discount with russia though ...

and rest assure mca, gerakan and mic leaders are under evolution from homo sapiens back to chimpanzee (the weakest of monkey species) ...

StockTube,

Are you saying that a person like me,who [ DELETED ]

I think you guys shouldn't worry too much about Kerismuddin and his antics. This is likely to be his last year as UMNOYouth head. He will try his luck at being the Vice president but he's unlikely to be PM. If KJ is ambitious enough he will make sure the kerisman won't get further than the VP post. That's the reality of politics in UMNO.

Aput83,

Have to agreed with you abt stocktube...[ DELETED ]

Anyway, one thing for sure I won't be voting for BN anymore.

This so called coalition party is getting more and more extreme. At least PAS don't make such statement.

absolutely inflamatory, absolutely disgusting, absolutely troubling

hi all,
1. if next year the UMNO GA is not going to be telecast live, well, God knows what will be said inside!!!! they should keep it live!! becos these peeps need to be checked from time to time. else they will think they are the king. now i wonder what's on Soi Lek's mind.
2. changed the UMNO GA to MCA GA or MIC GA..and all these emotional stuff are said...guess what will happen??? Ong Ka Ting will probably be in ISA custody now.. lol..

and absolutely brainless ...

absolutely certainly...

Hey Jeff,

I thought bringing weapon to attend a meeting or walking around the TOWN is ILLEGAL right? Why KERISHAMUDDIN is optional? Why No action is taken on him, where is the POLICE?

[ DELETED ]

Sigh

[ DELETED - Off Tangent ]

That's the reality of politics in UMNO.

Jan, you got me all confused....

There's reality in UMNO politics...?!

hahaha!!!

Did you all realise that,
Everytime this KERISHAMUDIN gave his speech at any places, He will or MUST SHOWN his angry #$%## ulgy face to us. WHY? So angry for what? WHO made him angry?

JUST MY GUESS: He thought by showing that ulgy face, it will enhance his VOICE especially on giving his speech , maybe he thought by doing so more people will Listen to him and support him. If not, anybody knows why he did so? For WHAT?

Well, I think His Acting is too much, too bad, OVER ACTING!! I would suggest him to look at the mirror to see himself one day, in order to understand why I say so. What's wrong with YOU? I

[ DELETED ]

Sigh!

to me, he has opened his own pandora box. he did and will enjoy his popularity but later in the elections, see how this will do to him.

i do not know how his father will react after ruin what all our father and grandfather did to have this racial harmony. btw, does he knew that the chinese sword are much longer than the keris? hmm....i wonder

one last question, if we cant question our rights here, what about the orang asli? they are bumiputras too but why do they still lives in suburbs? why no one gave them AP's or a land? i'm sure their ancestor were the first here.

imagine during other political party meetings n we talk about this. imagine what will happen.....they can talk and we did not do anything because we value our peace but there is some bad apple out there who loves to ruin everything.

Let's put politic aside and talk about psychology.

Me thinks he thinks waving a keris brings uproar of unity and strength to the party (it does) and he wave it again and kiss it this year as to show the same agenda of uniting Umno parties to greater and beyond. What he don't know is that is a very negative gesture as he's also the front liner of malaysia.(minister in this case).

As a child, we wave something in the air to show we OWN that particular object and we're waving as a Threat (to ward off) or wave it to show victory.

Next year,i hope he'll consider this year's remark and hopefully he'll do a little more to respect the keris.

anyway, funny how government always cancel/banned/blame Media for things they owned up to.

They are playing a knife's edge game. This brinkmanship can only be explained on their desperation.

They know Umno is no longer relevant because it has no viable solution to the problems of the race it is supposed to represent using a party whose total membership remains only 15% of that community. Therefore, the denials and deflections are to cast attention away from the yawning gaps between the majority being the poor malays, and the minority being the rich malays who share the same ontology as umno elites who have hijacked the very policies that were meant to help those poor malays, and to add injury to insult, framed the communities who had sacrificed their future to support those policies in the spirit of Barisan Nasional, now relegated to the graveyard of dead utopias. In fact, you can rename it Batang Nasional.

If Najib and Petronas are to be believed, this country will be an oil net importer latest by 2011, some say 2009. Importing oil will mean full removal of subsidies, higher costs of production, closure of inefficient factories, and increased capital risk. The attendant economic tailspin will contract service firms which will affect the livelihood of the urban middleclass malays who won't and can't go back to farming. Many will be too old by then to retool their own skills, let alone change their mindsets, a process which cannot translate 'feel-good' to 'feel-the-goods'. Tax revenues will decline which means government tenders will taper. To the ranks of the thousands of graduates who have graduated to join the dole will be the additional thousands who will be graduating to join the queue to the dole. Demand for continuous support will exceed supply from the other communities, many of whom will similarly suffer.

The bottomline will perhaps be a new recession. Signs are already showing that, despite proclaimed performances, things at the grassroot, retail, and infrastructure-maintenance levels aren't equivalently rosy.

So far, people are spending on credit. When the truth comes out on the precise standings of Petronas and other GLCs, inasumuch as we know of the red-line levels of the financial standing of the state governments, shit will hit the roof and people will take to the streets to riot. Expect that on the day this country achieves 'developed' status.

They know all this. That is why they played on tribal fear. Despite the calling by Badawi at the beginning for them to display sensitivity to the other communities on what they would be saying, they went ahead. KJ said it was no-holds bar. Is that to be interpreted as implicit acceptance of what Hashim Suboh was trying to egg Hishammuddin to do - use the keris? And this symbolic ritual of drawing the keris - how does it jive with the aspiration to be a global towering malay with mindsets changed to be more progressive, if in the first place it wouldn't take even a goon to realize that memories of scars about its use still rankle the minds of thousands who are still living today, those thousands who incidentally pay 80% of the tax revenue that supports the very government this bunch depends on? When Hishammuddin held the keris, was he remotely sensitive to what his party president had exhorted, what his fellow component party peers had exhorted, what he would have concluded from the uproars a year ago, carried forward while holding the post of Minister of Education, a post that was supposed to integrate national, not racial, unity, open minds, lift spirits and achieve excellence? Let alone carry the tradition of his lineage?

No-holds bar in a multiracial society doesn't and shouldn't mean free-for-all in a monoracial political assembly. Certainly the right to address all issues in a publicly-broadcasted event of such import should be carried with a greater sense of responsibility. Especially since the leader has had to say Umno was for ALL.

If Umno was for ALL, they have certainly shown they're not up to it!

Now this part about rehearsed speeches. If the general assembly speeches were indeed pre-vetted, then how did those tirades get past the scrutiny of the chief mediator, the party president, who incidentally, is also the PM? Since they got through in all the pristine glory of their gory KKK dogmas, does that mean that the final summing speech is..fake? And if it is not fake, does that mean the whole exercise was rehearsed so that fire is set in order for a fireman to be seen, and applauded, coming in to the rescue at the end?

There must be a more efficient way to win approval without insulting the intelligence of the rakyat.

Too much time, energy, money and resources have been nationally wasted on shenanigans, manipulations, attention-deflections and skulldruggeries. In the end, it would seem that those who complain about these race-based bashers are the ones who care more for the heartland malays, chinese, indians and rakyat aslis. That would be a fitting indictment that Umno's strategy is no strategy, Umno's tactics are monkey tricks, and Umno's elites have forgotten their roots, and how they have come up over the futures of millions.

Don't play fiddle with Malaysia's future. Because right now, that future is hanging precariously over a precipice. Down we go and it will be damn hard to crawl out of the abyss.

Dear Dato' Sir Onn Jaafar / Tun Hussein Onn, Please come back to life to disown this so-called Education Minister of ours! He has betrayed the very vision which you have built for this country and shamed your names. He does not deserve to be in your noble family anymore!

If you look at the pictures closely, hishamuddin has some resemblance to [ DELETED ]

time badawi do a reshuffle and drop him from the cabinet. He cannot manage the education portfolio as he is incompetent. He says he knows who we are, and what we do. [ DELETED ] Even his children are in international school. What a hypocrite.

It is like the indonesian forest fire: year in year out they promise to do something about it but it is all empty promises.

To summise Mr 'Tak Tau's' (Mr. Don't Know) consolation speech: I slap your face and then give you a sweet. You should be happy, stop complaining and all should be forgotten now. The harm's done and there is absolutely no sincerity.

DAP has lodge a polis report against those seditious people in the UMNO GA and the polis still has not taken any action to arrest these people....and I thought the new IGP would be better.

A vote for BN is a vote for UMNO. Happy?

Neil,

On the point of us becoming an oil importer. Honestly I wouldn't mind us having to pay for gas with no subsidies, if the government gets rid of that damned excise duty which makes a Prius cost as much as a house!

I'm sure that most of us know that we are actually paying 3 times the price for fully imported cars...

But althogether, Neil is in the right. Although, I wonder how many future leaders of our government coalition actually take heed of the advice of us common people.

Okay folks,

It's about time to sharpen your golok, parang, pedang samurai, keris & etc...anyway do you keep any of them at home???

Knowing UMNO... they would most probably use their keris to backstab themselves in their unholy chase to plunder away our nation's riches.

Better them, than us ... being stabbed that is.

SO SO SAD

You said.....For a moment my heart thought that all the Malays are raising their keris, ready for war.

Distinguish between UMNO Malays in general.

These amok-prone UMNO leaders are using the Malay-non Malay rhetoric to retain and abuse of power.

Do NOT get suck into their brand of racial politics.

UMNO's objective is to cause discord between Malays and nonMalays in the keris-wielding remarks at the General Assembly.

Notice, that MCA, Gerakan and MIC became dumb, like their throats being cut, and the silence of MCA and MIC and Gerakan is so loud that it drowns out the sounds in the UMNO General Assembly. That is how much MCA and Gerakan and MIC represent the interests of the non Malays against the dangerous politics of UMNO and UMNO Youth.

UMNO IS the GOVT of Malaysia NOT BARISAN NATIONAL. This fact must be shove into the throats of every non Malay voters in the country.

A vote for MCA, Gerakan and MIC is a vote for UMNO.

It is a vot for UMNO to rule this country with all the arrogance intransigence which we have witness year in and year out, the education, the scholarships, the UMNOputra cronyism and the corruption of the political institutions of this country over the last 40 years.

I repeat: A vote for MCA, MIC and Gerakan is a vote for UMNO to rule this country after every election.

/// In 1987, as UMNO Youth Chief, Najib vociferously defended special Malay privileges in a fiery speech featuring the Malay Keris (dagger) and vowed to bathe the Keris with Chinese blood, shortly before the government launched a crackdown on extremist elements termed Operation Lalang. Monkey see, monkey do.

So, now that DPM is within smelling distance of the throne, he can be hypocritical and play the statesman and claim that those who were racists and seditious were playing to the gallery due to their "inexperience". But of course, Najib had more than 2 decades to hone his experience.

So what can we expect for next general assemblies to be held by the rest of BN alliances esp. those racial based parties..MCA...MIC or even Gerakan?? surely lotz of kung fu acts from MCA young comrades as reply to kerishamudin. It makes no difference. Any racial based parties in this Bolehland will do just that. That's why the late Dato Sir Onn Jaafar left UMNO and set up Parti Negara

Aput83,

I don't think he will become the next PM after Najib. IMHO KJ has is more likely as he is more capable than him.

"I repeat: A vote for MCA, MIC and Gerakan is a vote for UMNO to rule this country after every election."

Fully agree with you. To MCA, MIC and Gerakan members, don't betray your own kind and sell the freedom of your children. Join the opposition. Vote against the BN. A vote for the BN is a vote for UMNO and its racist thinking and keris wielding silat for Chinese blood*

We have achieved Vision 2020 ahead of our time! We played with our marbles in space, made teh-tarik, and jerk off too in zero G way before 2020.

remember once kerishamuddin had scoffed at us for fearing the keris? he said waving the keris doesn't mean anything (like he was ready for a fight) but the keris is merely symbolic to their party. don't their party flag has a picture of the keris anyway? according to him, there is nothing wrong in waving the keris.

yeah right... who is he kidding. any 10 years old would know that if a person wield a weapon and cry "we will fight for our rights. non malays should not question us" means that they are targeting the keris at the non malays.

luncai, sure when MCA or MIC convene their GA, they will also shout about their own rights and so on but the difference is that if they so much as say (do?) teeny weeny racial stuff, they will kena tangkap at once (or reprimanded), while if UMNO do it, it's ok - the PM/authorities close one eye.

i always say it's ok if you want to praise so much your own race/religion... go ahead and do it... BUT don't ever undermine/attack other race/religion in doing so. [ DELETED ]

this is more like it jeff! a much better analysis than farish noor's.

hmm well ok u took most of it from aisehman but yes he has better analysis of the GA then Farish Noors!

If Umno is a racist and seditious organisation as attested in their UMNO General Assembly, what would that make Pak Lah who is the President of UMNO? Don't you agree that the head of the organisation should be liable for what his organisation/men does and say?

Should we then find our Prime Minister also guilty of racism and sedition charges or at least abetting these for allowing it to go on for 4 days? If so, he should be thrown in jail as after all, he has said before, noboby is above the law. Or is that talk kok only.

".... while if UMNO do it, it's ok - the PM/authorities close one eye."

Ahhh, now I see where the Melaka Close-One-Eye politikus learnt this tactic from. Thanks for the head-up :-)

Dear Frank&Honest,

Who knows what will happen when the snowball gather momentum? Who knows what will happen when enough is enough, of this super-ego posturing?

There is a prayer that I know and is being prayed by a lot of people in the evening when the sun sets and the twilight beckon, which says something like this,

"...
He has mercy on those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm
and has scattered the proud in their conceit,
Casting down the mighty from their thrones
and lifting up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away empty.
..."

This is the prayer of a young girl who was called to great things in her humility.

I share this prayer because when the mighty and the rich forgot themselves, when there seems to be no end in this pride and putdown of the lowly, I will reflect this prayer as best as I can from memory and ponder on its words, for myself and for what can happen when the rich and mighty forget their place, and know that this promise hold true. It is not for me to decide when will it comes true, just know that it is a promise for the downtrodden and the oppressed and also for the unjust and the proud.

This is my prayer, and I am sure that each reader of this blog has their own personal prayer. This prayer tells me to stand firm as best as I can with regard to this country; of course I can move on to another place, but my heart is here, it is where I belong, and I will try my best, with the strength that I have to resist this stupid and proud-hearted sickos. Not by force but by what is right, for there are many who had stood their ground and be my guide.

Regards

hinzelmann, I agree. You certainly have a point there. I totally forgot that Selangor is today a 'developed state'. I guess you can't blame me or anyone else for that matter if this 'fact' is so easily forgotten. Dang! ;)

Jeff,
Just remember to publish this again, two weeks before the general elections.... . Although with the constant gerrymandering, these a** holes will still get the majority.. Maybe the Chinese voting PAS wholescale would be fun?

Just for info, aisehman blog kena hack as at 19:02, 22/11/06.

BN component parties have sold their souls. This reminds me of the patung of many faces where god and devil is the same person. Preach tolerance but with weapon in hand.

The other day, I read about Intel investing $1 billion in Vietnam, a relatively new player in electronic manufacturing industry.

There is one para in the news which I wanted to quote here:
"The reasons we chose to invest here in Vietnam are evident," said Brian Krzanich, Intel's vice president and general manager for assembly and test. "A very vibrant population, an increasingly strengthened education system, a strong work force and a very forward-looking government
."

If we are not hungry enough for foreign investment, other nations are even hungrier than us. Opportunities are abundant outside. If we do not strive for these opportunities, others will do.
When can we stop looking at our past and differences and starts to think about this nation's priorities or even starts to think as one nation? If either one of us sinks, others sink as well.

Time is ticking.

Politikus, playing to the gallery. pathetic creatures. ever wonder how they live as decent humans. truly a toughest occupation. My Malaysia has been about multi racial harmony and shall continue to be ....... politicians will come and go.

Engineer

You said....If we are not hungry enough for foreign investment, other nations are even hungrier than us. Opportunities are abundant outside. If we do not strive for these opportunities, others will do.

Do you think those amok-prone UMNO and UMNO Youth leaders frothing in their mouths about kerises in blood care about those concerns you mentioned?

No, they don't care one bit or care two hoots about.

If they DO, they would not have behave like idiots and bloody fools during UMNO General Assembly. They would be behaving like statesmen, talking and discussing about how UMNO and the BN can bring the country forward economically in the globalised world of economics and finance.

Instead what do you get? Racist remarks, grandstanding and clap-trap verbal diarrhoea on "kerises, blood of those who oppose Malays" and standing on the podium at the assembly like schoolyard bullies threatening others. And you have the Education Minister frothing in his mouth with keris in his hands.

Your lamentations about Malaysia's future and destiny have NO meaning in the politics of UMNO.

To UMNO, that problem is for the Chinese and Indian businessmen to worry about, for MCA, Gerakan and MIC Ministers to worry about while they spend more time on how to siphon tax payers money for their close tenders to be given to their UMNOputra cronies.

Each time any Malaysian laments about how Malaysia will lose out to other countries with our brand of internal politics, these UMNO politicians are having a good laugh you for even thinking about them.

To UMNO and UMNO, the country can go to the dogs, as long as UMNO achieves its own survival based on its version of Malay superiority over other Malaysians and others.

Simply said, they DON'T GIVE A DAMN of what you mentioned. Do they ?

merdeka

You said....If Umno is a racist and seditious organisation as attested in their UMNO General Assembly, what would that make Pak Lah who is the President of UMNO?

I am very sure and confident Pak Lah is NOT racist. Not one bit. The man does NOT have that mean streak in his veins.

Pak Lah's weakness is his refusal or gutlessness to rein in those racist-bent members of UMNO and UMNO Youth.

Pak Lah forgot conveniently that he should be a PRIME MINISTER first to ALL Malaysians, and second, only as President of UMNO.

The world does NOT see Pak Lah as President UMNO but as Prime Minister, even when he speaks at the UMNO General Assembly.

Pak Lah can be indicted for condoning the dangerous politics of his UMNO members.

He can appear, sincere, honest, genuinely concern about racial divisiveness in the country, but his gutlessness to face up his duties and responsibilities to the nation as Prime Minister to rein in his members for their public antagonisation of other races will be the HALLMARK of his Prime Minister.

He cannot hide his indecision behind his mask of religious piety.

He will be remembered in history as both a Prime Minister and President of UMNO with NO marbles. His tenureship will be one with racist-bent politicians in Govt and in his party, crawling all over the floors of UMNO and Govt.

This country is going down the drain as long as we have people like those idiots that make themselves as fools in the UMNO GA. It is just so sad to see this. So, it's clear now the true color of UMNO. Next election, pls don't waste your vote to pangkah Dacing...pangkah whatever as long as it's other than BN. To MCA, MIC & Gerakan....you can continue to be UMNO's ass-licker but not me. Down with UMNO & down with BN.

Btw, I still have not found the so called "Prime Minister for all Malaysians" & the guy that said "work with me & not work for me". Anybody have seen him? Oops...maybe he was just flushed down the toilet:)

Anyone knows of any honest soul who attended the UMNO General Assembly recently?

To those who are thinking that they have been oppressed by the majority, let think twice. Just look at minority community in Southern Thailand provinces and compare how well those of you earning a living in this country. It is very sickening to hear these sorts of grievance from those who are now enjoying a relatively better standard of living here. Just head to any Southern Thailand provinces then you would only know how fortunate you to live in this country regardless being majority or minority.

We are NOT in Southern Thailand. That is why we are in Malaysia.

It is nonsensical to compare Malaysians to those in Southern Thailand. It is like someone else comparing Malaysians to any other country in the world and look worse. It is like one UMNO Minister comparing Malaysia to Ghana or comparing Malaysia to Singapore, and why not?

Come on. Your analogy does not move the debate further constructively or contribute anything to the discussion at hand.

Luncai,
Do the minority in Malaysia kill innocent monks? Do they kill school teachers, bomb car show rooms, kill nurses, rubber tappers? Do they terrorise the majority?

Luncai,
you may also want to ask this question? do the filipinos marginalise the Chinese minority? Do the Thais marginalise the Chinese minority? Honestly, who started the violence in S Thailand?

You belong to those dumb-founded Malaysians who cannot see the forest from the trees and try to be half-clever by comparing Malaysians to those in Southern Thailand. Have you been there before. Have you met them before? I have, but have you? Before you try to talk about those people in Southern Thailand.

I suggest you stay within your own little knowledge about Malaysia, and don't talk about citizens of other countries and compare with us in Malaysia.

Frank&Honest,

Frankly & honestly speaking my family origins from Kok Pho Village,Jammu District of Pattani Province, Southern Thailand. That’s why I did bring up this issue at first place.

Malaysia, 81 on list of flawed democracies

by
Jacqueline Ann Surin

PETALING JAYA (Nov 22, 2006):

Malaysia is a "flawed democracy" and falls nearly at the bottom of the list, below Mongolia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Indonesia, Timor Leste and Palestine in a new Democracy Index developed by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The index, which is available in The Economist's annual publication The World in 2007, grades 167 countries out of 192 independent states according to their degree of democracy.

The index looks at 60 indicators across the five categories of electoral process and pluralism, civil liberties, the functioning of government, political participation, and political culture.

Countries are spread across four regime types Ð full democracies (28 countries), flawed democracies (54), hybrid regimes (30) and authoritarian regimes (55).

"Sweden leads the pack with a near-perfect score followed closely by Iceland and the Netherlands.

"By contrast, the United States (ranked 17th), Britain (23rd) and France (24th) are near the bottom of the full democracy category," a press statement from The Economist said.

South Africa leads the "flawed democracy" category at 29th position, followed by South Korea at 31, Taiwan 32, India 35, Mongolia 56, Sri Lanka 57, the Philippines 63, Indonesia 65, Timor Leste 65, Bangladesh 75, Hongkong 78 and Palestine 79.

Malaysia ranks 81, sharing the spot with Bolivia at the bottom of the category.

The statement said "flawed democracies" were concentrated in Latin America and eastern Europe.

"Many of these countries remain fragile democracies. Levels of political participation are generally very low and democratic cultures are weak," it said.

Malaysia, however, remains ahead of Singapore (84), Thailand (90) and Cambodia (105) which fall under the "hybrid regimes" category, of which Iraq (112) anchors.

Pakistan (113) tops the list of "authoritarian regimes" while North Korea ranks last. In between are China (138), Vietnam (145), Laos (155) and Myanmar (163).

The Economist said more than half of the world's population lived in a democracy of some sort, although only 13% reside in full democracies.

"Despite the advances in democracy in recent decades, almost 40% of the world's population still live under authoritarian rule," it said.

It added that after decades of progress, the most recent global trends in democratisation have been negative, signalling a pause in the spread of democracy.

I am too familiar with the conditions with the Muslim minorities in Southern Thailand and the neglect of their socio economic wellbeing by the central Govt in Bangkok. The separatist movement in Southern Thailand is not new and had been brewing for the better part of last century eversince the British negotiated on the boundaries for Thailand and Malaysia, thereby splitting the Sultanate of Patani and those of the eastern states of Malaysia, in particular Kelantan, where the Southern Thai Muslims speak virtually the Kelantan dialect in Narathiwat, Songhla etc.

But the issue there is totallyc different and irrelevant to what we Malaysians faced today in our own country. That is my point.

UMNO + MCA + MIC + ETC = BN;
UMNO = BN;
MCA + MIC + ETC = 0;

Don't vote for emptyness...

TIME FOR A CHANGE...
YOUR VOTE COUNTS

Luncai,
Are the Thais in Northern, North Eastern and North Western parts and other areas of Thialand richer than Sourthern part? Go see - other parts in the North and you will find they are much poorer than the south. They are not the favoured of Bangkok and material wise the Southern are much better than the North.
You have to work for it and not wait for fortune to drop from the sky and blame the Gomen for being poor. Pls travel in Sabah and Sarawak and you will notice how poor are the poors there - worst than Southern Thailand!!

Folks

Below is an analysis on the fallout from the UMNO General Assembly, reported by Asia Online.

We are vindicated in our view that UMNO is the CAUSE for the racial divide in this country, time and again.

The article in Asia Online basically says that the unrestraint outbursts of racist remarks against non Malays, broadcast live on UMNO-owned TV and in newspapers and condoned by Pak Lah, are testimony to the inherent HATRED of UMNO for other races, even though MCA and MIC are their partners in Government.

For non Malay Malaysian voters, the fact remains that a vote for MCA, Gerakan and MIC is a vote for UMNO to win Government.

The racial divide widens in Malaysia

By

Ioannis Gatsiounis
(Ioannis Gatsiounis, a New York native, is a Malaysia-based writer.)

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's government regularly cautions its constituents that open and honest dialogue of the "sensitive" subject of race is strictly off limits.

Then comes along the week-long United Malays National Organization (UMNO) annual assembly, at which Muslim Malay party leaders warn the country's minority Chinese and Indians that questioning the special status of Islam and Malays in society will be met with violent doom.

Fists tremble. Daggers are brandished.

Party delegates thunder, "Long live the Malays." The very predictability of the chest-thumping is what UMNO members use to rationalize it: "Although some sides were a bit extreme [this year]," said UMNO vice president Muhyiddin Yassin, "it is quite normal to voice feelings during the assembly."

Yet it would be a mistake to confuse this year's assembly with previous party congresses. The Islamic and racist zeal was unmistakably more incessant and explicit, and the proceedings were considerably less tempered with calls for national unity. Remarks by Hasnoor Hussein, an UMNO delegate from Malacca, were typical: "UMNO is willing to risk lives and bathe in blood to defend the race and religion. Don't play with fire. If the [other races] mess with our rights, we will mess with theirs."

What troubles many Malaysians about UMNO's lack of restraint is that it comes at a time when the country appears more racially polarized than it's been in decades. Malaysia's mix of ethnic Malays, Indians and Chinese has long been resentful of each other and willfully segregate themselves. Those resentments exploded into full-blown race riots in 1969, when ethnic Malays attacked and killed scores of ethnic Chinese.

These days, some 90% of Chinese students attend private Mandarin-language schools. Meanwhile, most Malays attend public schools and most Indians Tamil-language institutions of learning. Two years ago the government initiated a public service program to improve race relations by choosing 18-year-olds to participate in a military style camp. That scheme has been dogged by reports of race-related infighting, however.

In the face of a creeping Islamization, non-Malays and social activists have recently pressured Malaysia's UMNO leadership to grant equal rights to all of the country's citizens regardless of race or religion - as is guaranteed under the federal constitution.

In particular, they have also become more vocal in questioning a controversial affirmative action program intended to help Muslim Malays catch up economically with the ethnic Chinese, who comprise 60% and 25% of the population respectively.

Started in 1971, the so-called New Economic Policy (NEP) was originally intended to last 20 years but has since been extended indefinitely. That's because, according to the government, its target of 30% Malay ownership of the country's total corporate equity still has not been achieved. According to official statistics, that percentage now hovers around 18%. Yet a study conducted by an independent academic last month contested that figure by claiming that ethnic Malay total equity ownership could already be as high as 45%.

The push for more democracy in authoritarian Malaysia leaves its ethnic Chinese and Indian minority groups particularly vulnerable - a fact reflected in the racial bashing at this year's UMNO assembly. At the same time, UMNO's preoccupation with racial politics raises growing doubts about its ability to lead the country forward faced with the challenge of China's economic emergence. The party leadership has openly acknowledged the need for Malaysia to change course if it is to remain competitive with its fast-rising neighbors.

Economic growth slowed from 7.2% in 2004 to 5.2% last year, while foreign investment dropped 15% to $3.9 billion. Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi has promoted his concept of Islam Hadhari, or Civilizational Islam, a modernist interpretation of the faith that stresses moderation and technological and economic competitiveness. In that direction, his party has also introduced plans to transform Malaysia into a regional information technology, agricultural and biotech hub.

"We need an economic transformation," Abdullah said in his opening address at the UMNO assembly. Yet tight curbs on personal freedoms, implemented to curb racial tensions, have hindered the open inquiry and innovative spirit necessary to achieve Abdullah's vision. The next phase of economic development will require coincident social transformation, reforms the current race-obsessed political leadership is reluctant to implement.

Past tense progressive
Oddly, UMNO was once a progressive party, championing what seemed a viable vision to improve equity among the races. Even into the 1990s, under the iron-fisted leadership of Mahathir Mohamad, UMNO looked primed to lead Malaysia toward developed country status. The shimmering steel and glass that spangle Kuala Lumpur's skyline are remnants of that now fading vision.

But the plan went awry as UMNO became politically entrenched in power. Meanwhile, Malaysia's social development and technical know-how has not kept pace with its infrastructural achievements. A common concession in Malaysia, even among its own leadership, is that the country has first world infrastructure but a Third World mentality. Now, that dubious distinction is becoming increasingly obvious to outsiders.

The country's leadership must take much of the blame. UMNO has clung to old solutions, such as the NEP, to fix new problems. Put another way, UMNO, which has ruled Malaysia for four-plus decades through a coalition of other race-based parties, has become bitter, cynical and defensive - a party that is emphasizing preservation at the expense of progress.

Even younger UMNO members, once portrayed as idealistic, urbane and liberal, have quickly come to resemble the party's conservative old guard. And now they often represent the front edge of the party's increasing racist angst. For instance, Abdullah's Oxford-educated son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin, who is coincidentally the deputy chief of UMNO's youth wing, warned in September that Chinese political groups would try to take advantage of any split inside UMNO.

When pressured to apologize, according to media reports, the 31-year-old said, "What is there to apologize for? ... I am only defending my race." At the annual assembly, meanwhile, UMNO youth chief Hishammudin Hussein urged the government to reject proposals for an inter-faith commission intended to foster better understanding among Malaysia's various religious groups.

He brandished a Malay dagger, known locally as a keris, when speaking. Some delegates, it seemed, urged him to go further. "Datuk Hisham has unsheathed his keris, waved his keris, kissed his keris. We want to ask Datuk Hisham, when is he going to use it?" said UMNO Perlis delegate Hashim Suboh.

Non-Malays are seeking to exploit the fiery tone of the UMNO assembly to their own political advantage. Liow Tiong Lai, youth chief of the Barisan Nasional component of the Malaysian Chinese Association, said the day that the assembly wrapped up, "All of us are Malaysians in this multiracial country and hatred must not exist. Instead, we must find strength in diversity. We must inculcate love and unity among the races in order to overcome obstacles together."

Malays and UMNO party members will question the sincerity of such remarks, and not without reason. Following UMNO's example, all of Malaysia's major political parties are explicitly race-based, and all have been known to play the race card to shore up their support bases. But only UMNO has the weight of an assembly that has incited anger, mistrust and ridicule of other races.

This year's assembly could mark a dangerous turning point for a country that not long ago was often applauded internationally as a model moderate Islamic nation for its seeming religious tolerance and clear economic achievements. Nowadays, it's altogether unclear if a racially charged UMNO can even manage to maintain short-term social and political stability.

Folks

Why doesn't Pak Lah call in Bukit Aman to bring in the UMNO YOuth Leader and those UMNO delegates who spat out their racist remarks agains the non Malays, for questioning in Bukit Aman office orfor detain them at least for a few nights in Kamunting under ISA?

Why is UMNO delegates and politicians who spew hatred lic in pubon other races allowed to go free. Why is MCA and MIC not demanding a response from UMNO, their political partner in Govt. Why are MCA and MIC not representing the fears and concerns of their Chinese and Indian constituents. Where is Ong Ka Ting and Sammy Vellu... have the lost their marbles totally?

Why is the Education Minister allowed to use the keris as a symbolic weapon of fear against other races? Why is he STILL the EDUCATION MINISTER?

Why should the non Malays now should let UMNO rule the country through their proxy votes to MCA and MIC? After what had been said in last year's UMNO General Assembly and THIS YEAR'S UMNO GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

PAS is beginning to look more and more a favourable option to UMNO, on all counts, to be the dominant Malay political party to lead govt and to look after the secular interests of the non Malays, religion aside.

Folks

Perhaps we can learn something from the Palestinians.

After many years under the Fatah political party running the Palestinian Terrority, with all the corruption, nepotism, cronyism, and hypocrisy of trying to win a Palestinian state from Israel, the Palestinians (consist of Christians and Muslims) decided enough is enough, and decided this year in a fair general election to throw out the Fatah party and brought the Hamas ( a religous party) into Govt. Of course the US and the West and Israel are still trying to destabilise Hamas for their own political ends. But the Palestinian voted Hamas, for whatever negative publicity the Western media painted Hamas.

It is life and death on a daily basis for the Palestinians in the Palestinian Territories, and yet they voted courageously to change the corrupt govt under Fatah political party, for Hamas to run the country for the first time.

I must say, after the stupid display of racial rhetoric of last week, any other political party looks a more sensible and moderate choice, yes even PAS.

The reason? UMNO has finally achieved what they wanted. They have out-Malayed and out-Islamed PAS.

HIDUP MELAYU!!!
HIDUP MELAYU!!!!
(waves Keris some more)

Did that shock you?

Nah.. I was just kidding. Thought I'd just lighten things up a bit.

I just want to add my voice in support of what most readers here have said.

In a nutshell, I quote robin hood:
"UMNO + MCA + MIC + ETC = BN;
UMNO = BN;
MCA + MIC + ETC = 0;"

This little equation sums it up really well. But to what avail?

Even if all the readers of screenshots registered and voted, BN will still win the next election. There's just not enough enlightened people around to correct this costly mistake. We gave them too much power... 90+% !!!!
(Wonder if there was any cheating, hmmm)
With 90%, they can wave any damn thing they want in their GA. They can even burn flags and effigys of other races if they want, and no one will so much as farts.

But I agree, those who are in the know should prop up the oposition a bit. But BN will still win and UMNO will behave like the spoilt child that they are.

SAD... I cry for this great country, destroyed by sown suspicions and hatred among races. UMNO... in an effort to stay relevant in this day and age, has commited these grave sins.

"Musnah negara kerana UMNO..."

Patriot

Just spread word around. Election is still far off.

All we need to do is remove their stereotypical fears... your friends, relatives, neighbours, work colleagues, fellow students etc... nothing works better than word of mouth.

Just see how the Democrats win the two Houses in the US... not everybody in the States are internet savvy.

Giving up and accepting the status quo do not help change. That is what UMNO and MCA and MIC are hoping for. That people feel it is too hard and too much hassle to make the change.

Agree with you, Frank&Honest.

Share with 5 people a day. Non-stop. Never-mind we repeat the tired old same story.

Coz it is the old same method of reaping wealth from Malaysians by all the projek-projek Barisan Nasional.

God knows how much seepage there is. How much more is lined for the pocket of cronies, family members of policy makers and licensee / APs holders.

This is a skim cepat kaya rental economy we're in. With the cake shrinking in size and the FDI kicked out - where else you think these hungry leaders will be looking at?

If they ain't hungry, their hundreds and thousands of people under them are too. Cancerous.

TRUTH CRUSHED TO THE GROUND SHALL ARISE ONE DAY.

My point of view ...

I think I caught up reading this keris-thing at Rocky's Bru before I read it here. Nice blogging topic, I think, only that I failed to find the lead, in both blogs, the attachment that could make discussion more meaningful.

Anyway, to me, waving the keris is no big fuss to me, as long one does not wave and swipe one's ass with it.

Other than that, I personally DO find that the rhetoric displayed at this years UMNO assembly nowhere respectful.

No doubt about that.

But you see, to a segment of us Malays -- those urbane, well educated and value-driven -- UMNO is now nowhere respectful either. It has become disrespectful because it has failed to respect the good Malay cultural values that our forefathers have taught us, and it has failed miserably to gain our respect because the party acts in opposite of the religious values that it claims to uphold.

To borrow a term from the field of psychology, UMNO currently is suffering from "cognitive dissonance". This means that that party is living through a period when it says it holds good values yet it acts the opposite. The tragicomedy is that the current Prime Minister is said to hail from a religious family -- promotes this branding of Islam called "Islamic Hadhari" -- and with all these brandishing of being a religious man, the man and the party is nowhere religious by our standards.

Some of you, including the Blogger, wishes for a secular state. How secular you want to be, you must have and must retain good values, for the next generation to follow. You cannot embrace secularism because secularism cannot stand on something flimsy.

When I say that UMNO is disrespectful to the segment of Malays that we are made of, I do not say things out of heresays. People like us read and scan the media, and we follow the infightings within UMNO itself. We gauge how UMNO conducts its mattes within itself and without itself.

UMNO has diverted so much from its true beginnings, and what a shame to the so-called "religious" Prime Minister for failing to observe even some simple values that we cherish within ourselves:

1. Respect and honour all human beings irrespective of their religion, colour, race, sex, language, status, property, birth, profession/job and so on [17/70]

2. Talk straight, to the point, without any ambiguity or deception [33/70]

3. Choose best words to speak and say them in the best possible way [17/53, 2/83]

4. Do not shout. Speak politely keeping your voice low. [31/19]

5. Always speak the truth. Shun words that are deceitful and ostentatious [22/30]

6. Do not confound truth with falsehood [2/42]

7. Say with your mouth what is in your heart [3/167]

8. Speak in a civilised manner in a language that is recognised by the society and is commonly used [4/5]

9. When you voice an opinion, be just, even if it is against a relative [6/152]

10. Do not be a bragging boaster [31/18]

11. Do not talk, listen or do anything vain [23/3, 28/55]

12. Do not participate in any paltry. If you pass near a futile play, then pass by with dignity [25/72]

13. Do not verge upon any immodesty or lewdness whether surreptitious or overt [6/151].

14. If, unintentionally, any misconduct occurs by you, then correct yourself expeditiously [3/134].

15. Do not be contemptuous or arrogant with people [31/18]

16. Do not walk haughtily or with conceit [17/37, 31/18]

17. Be moderate in thy pace [31/19]

18. Walk with humility and sedateness [25/63]

19. If you do not have complete knowledge about anything, better keep your mouth shut. You might think that speaking about something without full knowledge is a trivial matter. But it might have grave consequences [24/15-16]

20. When you hear something malicious about someone, keep a favourable view about him/her until you attain full knowledge about the matter. Consider others innocent until they are proven guilty with solid and truthful evidence [24/12-13]

21. Ascertain the truth of any news, lest you smite someone in ignorance and afterwards repent of what you did [49/6]

22. Do not follow blindly any information of which you have no direct knowledge. (Using your faculties of perception and conception) you must verify it for yourself. In the Court of your Lord, you will be held accountable for your hearing, sight, and the faculty of reasoning [17/36].

I was truly inspired by the verses that you quoted. Are they from the Koran? If so, there is much to share across religions, nay, spirituality. I distrust all religions today.

What you revealed above is also found in the ‘sruti’ and ‘smriti’ and of the vedas. Veda means knowledge and is not a religion in the debased, formal organizational sense of today. Its also found in the tenets of Buddhism and Taoism. All of these spiritual traditions have been debased and downgraded into religion, so that their efficacy is lost in empty doctrine and preaching, with little correlation with the sublime spiritual experience of the transcendence. Wirth enlightenment there is no need for cognitive dissonance, because the Higher Self’s, thoughts ,words and deeds are all spontaneously attuned to natural law. Consciousness is the key , not preaching and obeying out of fear or expectation of reward. There is perfect alignment with natural law, and heaven is realized right here on earth.

The culture is strengthened from within, not without, and the nation is indeed invincble on the basis of the covenant with God. No need to reach, exhort, instill fear or seduce with reward.

It is a completely innocent and process guided by wisdom.

It is the transcendence that allows the direct cognition of Unity in Diversity.
Thanks for sharing and uplifting from a classic, refined, ‘pure’ and ennobled Malay perspective.

And I mean this sincerely. Its like fresh breeze and light that suddenly remove all the impurities in this angry and darkened space.

We should indeed hear and see more of this. It is time you guys came out the closest and help us take our country back from ruin.

I agreed with sentiment expressed by reader of this blog. UMNO has gone too far and behaving like Idi Amin the dictator. We better stop UMNO before it become Pol Pot of Cambodia and start another killing field. Do not dismiss a person who hold a weapon and threaten to use it.
Looks like any other party is better than UMNO and BN.
I agreed voting for MCA, MIC, Gerakan, etc is like voting UMNO. Those parties in BN is voiceless and balless.
PAS and DAP look much better now.
Hope people of Malaysia are not so blind in the next election. Get the courage and vote the opposition just like the Palestinian and USA. Throw out the party that speak with fork tongue.

"Share with 5 people a day. Non-stop. Never-mind we repeat the tired old same story"

Absoultely right. I am not only sharing the word to 5 people each day, I am doing it to everyone I meet since the UMNO GA including to the taxi driver I ride in. For the man-in-street Malays, they should not look at this as a racial or religion saga. It's not. This is about one party plundering the country and they should ask how come after 30 over years, the NEP has benefited only a small handful of Malays while the majority is still poor? Importantly, UMNO has played with fire by using race and religion to garner more support and votes for themselves and in that process endangered the future of this country and its people. Such blatant irresponsibilities are not what we want in a party to lead and represent us. We are all lacking behind other countries in progress while our cost of living is rising. Our govt today can spend hundreds of millions of ringgits to build a sport complex in England and even billions of ringgits on white elephant projects while what it should be doing is to ease the high cost of living and improve the lives for the majority of all Malaysians. Ever wonder why these projects? Could it be that there is corruption involved? It is the tax payers' hard earned money.

It is time for everyone to grow up. Ask yourself: Have you been used to fuel the greed of a handful of Umnoputras?

"When you sow, they reap"

It is time to save the country. Vote for a change.

bohemeian grove, good points.

Very apt and inspiring posting you forwarded. There are universal values in all religions, especially in Islam.

There is a consonance of Islam and the Malay culture.

The Malay culture is basically one founded on respect of other peoples and its hallmark is graciousness ie "sikap lembut" "sama tahu". It ties in well with the basic tenets of Islam. The problem with the current divisiveness in the countryb is that the UMNO leaders, in their greed for power and ill-gotten wealth, conveniently threw out the window the teachings of Islam in their dealings with other people, and totally disgraced themselves as members of the Malay community in their hatred speeches at the UMNO General Assembly.

Having said that, this does NOT mean that other cultures and religions are dissimilar.

The point is that UMNO's evil demonisation of PAS, which resulted in stereotyping of fear by just the word "PAS" by the non Muslims and non Malays, through the UMNO-owned NST and Malay papers, is grossly unIslamic and unbecoming of a well respected Malay in the Malay community.

Frank,

I'm already doing that. But to friends and family only. Haven't started with people in the streets yet.. HAHAHA

Quote from www.sun2surf.com,
Umno delegates stick to the script by Zainon Ahmad

On Economy:
Razali Idris (Terengganu): There is no way for Umno to remain strong if the economy is weak. The Malay's economic growth is only about 2%, while the non-bumiputra's is at 6%.
Mohd Zan Abu (Johor): "The National Economic Policy and subsequent policies were not effective in uplifting the Malay community.
"In this regard, the Malay Agenda should be strenghtened to be more effective.
"Whether it (the bumiputra equity ownership) is 18% or 40% is not the question. The fact is the Malays are still lagging behind."

Patriot: This should not be the excuse to continue dishing out wealth via NEP. One should lookat why NEP failed? Check for corruption. Go through the assest of those who award government contracts. Are they clean? Have they been taking abite each at every step of the process. Or perhaps the problem is lack of motivation/hard work to accumulate wealth. These important factors are conviniently overlooked.

Religion:
Mohd Effendi Yusof (Kelantan): "Those who spread rumours and sms that there are about 250,000 Muslims in the country who had apostacised should be detained under the Internal Security Act or the Sedition Act.

Patriot:
This matter is still unresolved. The answer whether a Muslim can or cannot change their religion is still not clearly answered by the courts. Or perhaps they are skirting the issue. The result of Lina Joy's appeal is still not out yet (as far as I know). If one truly cannot convert out of Islam, one should question what is meant by religious freedom in Malaysia. To detain an apostate under ISA, on what basis? Fo having different ideas or thoughts? For disturbing peace?

To be continued...

Continued from previous post..

Education:
Mohd Zan Abu: "The meritrocracy issue should be re-examined. We do not want future generation to blame us for not doing anything, when it mattered."

Patriot:
After removing the crutches, would you still want to go back to it? When these children grow up and face a globalised world, who is going to offer them crutches? Perhaps Mohd Zan should meditate on the word BERDIKARI (Berdiri atas Kaki Sendiri).

On the Panca Warisan, the keris that symbolises Umno Youth's struggle, which he raised for the first time last year and again this year:
"I remember that in last year's assembly, the Panca Warisan triggered concern among non-Malays. So narrow is their thinking and understanding of the cultural heritage of our forefathers. Aren't they aware that all along, we have together upheld the concept of Unity in Diversity? The keris should not be regarded as a symbol of oppression of the non-Malays by the Malays."

Patriot: Brandishing a weapon as a way to uphold Unity in Diversity? Perhaps MCA and MIC should follow suit. Maybe well have a truly united Malaysia then.

On the Malay Agenda:
"The Malay Agenda in the National Mission should not be regarded as a zero-sum game, by saying only the Malays are benefiting and that the non-Malays are losing out. The non-bumiputras should be brave enough to admit that during the implementation of the New Economic Policy, they also derived benefits, either directly or indirectly, through projects in the various sectors."

Patriot:
The government should give projects to Non-Bumis and let the Bumis reap the benefits "Directly or indirectly". What a lousy piece of argument.

To be continued...

Continued from previous post (Part 3)

On income parity:
"Although the bumiputras form the majority in this country, the income parity between bumiputras and non-bumiputras is still worrying. In fact, it is widening. For example, the income disparity between bumiputras and ethnic Chinese in 2004 is 1:1.64. Is it wrong if the government makes an effort to reduce this to 1:1.5 by 2010? Believe me, if nothing is done to address this situation, it will take 120 years to achieve income parity with the non-bumiputras, as mentioned by a group of researchers from Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Patriot: Well, UMNO sure took this the wrong way. They should make the Malays work as hard as the Chinese FIRST, then expect them to reduce the income disparity. GIVING them more is counter-productive as it will make them complacent and uncompetitive. Perhaps the govt should monitor how the bumi contractors handle their contracts. Did they sub a major part of it away? If they did, they shouldn't complain that 80% of it indirectly goes to non bumis.

On the NEP:
"Umno Youth reminds those who harp on the racial equity ownership issue to desist. If we don't want to talk about the concentration of wealth distribution in one particular race, then they should look into discriminatory practices in the marketplace, in particular the practice by some non-bumiputra companies which makes it a condition that one must know a certain language to get a job."
Patriot: This is an odd question. It is only logical for employers to employ someone with the skills and productivity that can improve his business. Would you employ a Chinese National, who can't speak BM to serve customers who are mainly Malay? If you are capable and can improve a business, employers will even pay you extra to have you on his side (ever heard of headhunting?).

The issues mentioned, are somewhat ridiculous, when looked at closely. But unfortunately, it is enough to stir the anger of simpletons.

The NEP, from what I notice, serves only to enrich the Rich Malays. By the time the wealth filters down to the Malays on the street, it has become peanuts. These poor people are the ones being manipulated and roused into anger with poorly concieved arguments by the elite. Turning their atention from the actual problem (corruption and the delivery process) into a racial issue, demonizing the Chinese, which the poor Malay public love to hate. Using this as an excuse, coupled with chinese political apathy, the Malay elites (UMNOputras in this case) continue to push for an NEP which will keep lining their own pockets. With the Malays being that majority race in this country, it seems that this process will continually enrich the Malay elites and cause an enlarging rift in the racial divide. If this keeps up, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up blood shed like Indonesia, one day. UMNOptras, how great are your sins.

[ DELETED ]

I want to ask Hishamudin;" In what context he wants the keris to be remember in the history of Malaysia? to use in racial riot; civil war and ethnic cleansing? or as a symbol of bravery, for the Malay who fight for true justice, without fear or favour, in regardless of race language or religions?

If Hishamudin thinks by using the Keris he will glorify the Malay race; I think he is dreaming. I am not going to be courteus here; and i don't buy your lame symbolic reasons; coward!

Dear all,

Just a note to those writing about voting for a change...make sure you are entitled to vote before putting this statement, also make sure you register yourself to vote if you are eligible to vote, and when you have registered yourself, make sure it is in the list, and lastly make sure you go and do what you have proposed here in this series of commentary, and then only then you will not find yourself making hollow and empty noise.

I write this because just now I had asked a colleague whether he had voted before and he said not once, after almost fifteen years of eligibility accorded to him. To register and vote, and for a change is our personal responsibility, no one can do it for you.

So it might be a good idea to stop blaming groups of people for voting for the government.

Frankly, I am still learning about this election and democratic things.

Just in case you want to condemn me, I have voted in every GE that I am entitled to vote. Also already fifteen years of eligibility.

Regards

twotablet, well said.

I voted for the BN when I first eligible to vote.

When I grew older (wiser ?) ALL subsequent elections, I voted for the Opposition.

In the last election, my constituency was PAS vs BN. Of course my vote goes to the OPPOSITION - PAS.

Please DO NOT swing by others who say
-BN is repenting (Pak Lah - the anti-corruption leader ??).

We should be very clear about what we wanted. A Change of Government.

- we need a stable Government (to screw us?.

Nothing personal to Pak Lah. What we Malaysian needed badly is a REVAMP of the current BN government.

Reform is IMPOSSIBLE. The system is embedded for some 50 years.

I'm sometime amazed and amused by some who are taken in or being allured into the election manifesto of BN.

PM warned chinese newspaper not to be racist coz it highlighted kerishamudin racist speech; but gave full support to those racist speech.

I dont get it......

hoekeat

Pak Lah is simply SWEEPING UMNO'S DIRT UNDER THE CARPET.

And the dirt has been collecting for 40 years.

Pak Lah wants Malaysians to imagine there is NO dirt piled up by UMNO over the years.

Our Prime Minister ONLY has marbles against Chinese newspapers, not even the Malay papers, and NONE AT ALL, against the amok-prone mouth-frothing racist bent UMNO members of which HE is the President.

What is MCA's response???

None... in fact Ong Ka Ting will come out and mouth agreement and may even scold the Chinese newspapers.

Pak Lah is behaving like President of UMNO instead of as Prime Minister for ALL Malaysians in his biasness.

A vote for MCA is a vote for UMNO... and all the anti-non Malay comments you get in every UMNO General Assembly.

God help Malaysia.

Hoekeat,

I am wondering if you asking as a rhetoric or genuinely don't understand why the double-standard.

To begin with, I was quite "green" to contemporary and political issues of our country for some time. Maybe because the priority was to earn a living and also lack of exposure to alternative views about the reality of country.

In a way the internet has really open up the democratic space of Malaysia. For that matter, all "closed" society that we can think of. I must say I am very grateful to encounter blog like screenshot which voice out and dare to voice out with critical analysis of the actual situation, ie minus the official spin. It really offers me a platform to discover the realities of our society as it is in its plurality, dynamism, and machination.

Even though one of the disadvantageous of the internet is the lack of intimacy of human contact in the process of discussing politics, it is one that created a deep impact especially those internet-savvy.

As for the obviousness of the double-standard treatment of the ruling party, I am no longer surprise but at the same time still remain amaze at their blatantness in their deceit. It is still hard to stomached at this injusticeness and I realise and hope we would not be sensitize to it. So that each time such things are repeated we can feel the pain and really want this unfairness remove.

I believe that there is still a natural justice even though what we are having in this country is the law of the strong and the powerful. I believe this natural justices is part of our nature that seeks fairness and equality even though each person has their own calling of what they can, should or capable of doing.

At this stage, I am opening up myself to learning about the rule of law, its principles, by participating in blog forum which at the moment offers me the most convenient access. Participating in actual forum would be ideal, however there is the limitation of time and resources in attending such forum. I am still responsible to the demand of family commitment and work commitment.

For now I know that the present setup of the ruling coalition is that of the power to the strongest and the most powerful with a lot of lip service to those ordinary people. This is not how things should be and nature does not operate that way.

This I will do: to resist this people with what is available to me, the cost is there but cost of destruction by flowing with it is even greater.

you guys all stupid laa, you must have vote for bn before, thats why you so piss off.

all this years you never listen to what opps said, and now you pay for it laa.

like me, i never vote for bn, so i didnt piss off laa. for whatever wrongdoing bn made, i never be part of it since i never put them there. not lke you guys, you will always get share from whatever wrong bn made, it will haunt you forever....
