If you face Google difficulties on Streamyx line...
I was first alerted on November 4 -- via LensaMalaysia members -- of Streamyx users facing difficulties in accessing Google services. I was informed that the affected Klang Valley areas include Kelana Jaya, TTDI, Damansara Jaya, Kota Kemuning
In fact, based on feedback I received, the problems were detected as early as October 18. For the last few weeks, including yesterday, many TMNet users in the Klang Valley area have been experiencing intermittent "Google-blackouts" on their Streamyx service; basically services that are related to Google (Search, GoogleTalk, Earth, Gmail, etc) can't be accessed for some periods of time.
There is a rather primitive way of overcoming the problem: Reboot your ADSL modem, but that's not getting into the root of the problem. It's primitive, I repeat.
We have since initiated an internal communication with TM Net/Streamyx, with assistance from Hanson Toh, Google's country consultant.
Here's the kind of feedback we need from you: Please kindly folow the instructions below, and forward your findings to Mr Hanson Toh (hansontoh @google.com), with a cc to me (jeffooi.screenshots @gmail.com):
Only for TMNet users experiencing "blackouts" on Google-related services)If the users are experiencing the captcha page or a 403 error page...
I ) Your external IP address.
To obtain your external IP address, please visit http://www.whatismyip.com/.II ) A screenshot of the error page.
To create a screenshot, please follow the instructions below:
- Once the page in question is displaying on your screen, press the Print Screen key located on the top right-hand side of your keyboard. Note that you won't receive any verification when you press this key.
- Open a new, blank document using Microsoft Word or a graphics program, and paste the screenshot into the document (right-click > Paste).
- The approximate date/time when you saw the captcha page. To obtain your time in GMT format (London time), please visit http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=136.
- Finally, save the document and attach it to your reply. Please send your reply to hansontoh@google.com, with the subject-title: Google - error page result. (PLEASE USE THIS SUBJECT-TITLE as I will apply a filter to capture and sort only this title)
- If you do not mind, please also provide your email address so that we can give you any feedback if it becomes available, or possible to do so. However, if you prefer, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DECLINE giving your contact email.
TV Smith's IP Check function on www.mycen.com.my is also another convenient way of generating the above data.
You may download a sample reference of what this info would look like.
Many thanks in advance for your joint-help and support to solve this issue, which may be caused by a variety of reasons, either from Google's side or from our local ISP/links.
Comments
the problem can be solve by turning off the modem/router, turn it back on, and reconnect to streamyx... looks like streamyx ip address is being blocked from accessing the google website...

it's a simple DNS issue. if you switch the DNS servers to non-tm.net ones the problem is solved. highly recommended, free and reliable ones are provided by http://www.opendns.com/

I had the intermittent problem of gmail taking a long long time to download into my outlook express. But it's okay these few days.
I was in Hanoi a few days ago, and had the same problem using gmail. Happened in one internet cafe, but ok in another. Not using Streamyx there! So this may not be Streamyx specific.
If it happens again, I will report it per your instruction.

If you are using Windows XP and received Error 678 or 679 when trying to connect to Streamyx, please go to Microsoft website to find your solution (Article ID : 892889). The indication of this problem is when your DSL indicator is stable.
Another common error is Error 676 where the DSL indicator is blinking.

The advice of leninbird is THE solution.
Streamyx has super lousy DNS servers, they are slow and updating take ages.
If you add a new site and want to propagate the DNS, streamyx is almost the last one in the world to be updated.
Try opendns and you will see you browser is a lot more responsive, because pages appear faster.
