Nine Emperor Gods festival
Yesterday, I was worried that I couldn't get the picture I wanted badly.
Somehow, managed to get several shots, not entirely to my liking, but suffices for a novice's first encounter. Look at the pictures, and having overcome the initial wariness, is it a case of mind over matter?

It is HUMAN mind over matter. It is NOT neccessary stem from one's believe in any religion or super natural power at work because this fire walking stunt is not from chinese faiths only. Other faiths has done it too. So, my conclusion, homo sapien mind is full of potential, it only needs to be cultivates to the right path by understanding its nature and then wisdom shall arises.

Yes our beliefs are like hypnotic focuses. In formal hypnosis you make an agreement with the hypnotist. For a while you accept his ideas about reality instead of your own. These devotees can perform this “fire walking” feats that you would consider impossible otherwise – all of these because they willingly suspend certain beliefs and allow themselves to accept others for the moment.
It is always thought that the conscious mind is lulled and its activity stopped for doing these feats. Quite the contrary, their minds are focused, intensified, narrowed to a specific area and are other stimuli (like pain and fear) are cut off. This intensity of conscious concentration cuts down barriers and allows messages to go directly to the unconscious where they are acted upon.
We must realize that we are all hypnotists and natural hypnosis is happening in our daily life and we can use it to better our experience. The self help books called it positive thinking or graphic visualization or auto suggestion or changing your mindsets
Take the case of a dissatisfied situation - you feel you are powerless, your will is paralyzed and adverse conditions continue despite what do you think of as you intent. If you examine closely your own conscious thoughts, you are concentrating upon precisely those negative aspects that so appall you. You are effectively hypnotizing yourself quite effectively and so reinforcing the situation like an overweight condition, loneliness or even poor health. Yet others (who do NOT complain) are hypnotizing themselves into wealth, accomplishment and satisfaction.
In the first case with unsatisfactory aspects, you have no doubts and utterly convinced that you are sick, or poor, or lonely or unhappy and the results easily and effortlessly follow.
So what you can do? Do some simple self-hypnosis exercise to alter your negative old beliefs with the inserted new beliefs. When the impulses arrived, act upon them to effect the changes.

Oh yes, I've tried walking on the hot charcoal on many occassions several years ago. Done it outta thrill and fun. Not so much of spiritual vocation. We were asked to abstain from eating meat days before the walk. Though I felt a little burning sensation on my foot, the experience was nonetheless memorable.

I heard Anthony Robbins also have a fire walking session in his course.
"Unlocking the Mind". An interesting subject.
