2nd Home? Dashed!

We have lost some friends because the religious enforcers insisted on waking up a Christian couple at 2am in Langkawi, accusing them of committing khalwat (close proximity).

A news report says retired American policeman Randal Barnhart, 62, and his wife Carole, 61, are now reconsidering their plan to make Malaysia their second home.

The couple, who were on a six-week sailing holiday in Malaysia, have been married for 42 years.

This ugly incident and many others before has shown the world what Malaysia can become. I fear for all concerned citizens who refuse to accept the mores imposed by the so-called "moral squads".

it would be wise to limit and control more efficiently.

There are times when we surely wish that law enforcement agents are given more leeway in carrying out their duties. Even movies depict scenes where the police know the bad guy is guilty, but for lack of a warrant cannot conduct a search.

But surely there must be a reason on the evolvement of the warrant process. I wish that all Malaysians would reflect on this, and consider the impact on a civil society when authority figures are given free reign to barge into homes simply on the premise of "suspicion".

I feel the Religious Team should have no right to intrude into anyone's house without first performing a due check to ensure that a 'khalwat' is indeed happening. They should not be given a 'walking warrant' to search every and any house they like just because they suspect a 'khalwat' is in place. Even the police does not have such powers as they would need to do a stakeout before they raid premises suspected of gambling. The religious carte blanc is carried too far beyond the ambit of the law. Why can't these people wait for the suspects to come out of the premises before confirming that a 'khalwat' has indeed been commited? Why no surveillance before banging on the door and frightening its occupants? This is an act of intimadation and I would highly recommend the two innocent vitims to sue the Religious Enforcement Team and the Government. This obviously is not the first case to happen and will go on unless you do something about it. What a bad name these clowns give to Malaysia.

Moral police....what is this country turning to!

Times are changing......

Look what religion has done to these people with their beliefs No wonder so many people question religion. To them (most afraid of their sensual natures) excessive sexual behavior obviously will be considered depraved. They demand abstinence and denial of you as sexual beings.
And what did John Remsburg said?

"An ignorant people are generally a religious people, and a religious people nearly always an immoral people."

Monkeys masquerade as religious guardians.

mwt - you say it right!
Let's look towards a Scandinavian Country. When I asked a Scandinavian friend of mind if he went to church every Sunday he replied that they went to church " 3 times in a life time - birth, marriage and death..!"
But his country is peaceful, so very clean environmentally, crime rate is so low ( most of them are commited by non citizens) that they could sleep with open windows during summer time. They have no prison like iron grills to their doors and windows. There is no abandon babies and no beggers and no bad and shamful doings found in many other religious countries. The country is so advanced that they export their agriculture produces, foods, veteninary products, machineries and other technologies to all over the world. They could give away multi millions of dollars in aids to many poor countries irrespective of race, religion and culture! A small cheating case could become a headline in the Newspaper. If you lost a bag or money in a public place, the chances of getting it bag is more than 50%. Corruption is hardly heard of in this country.
But they are 'generally not religious'!

Another sign of "Police State"mentioned by Tun M? It is consistent with the publicity given by newspapers to Pak Lah imaming the prayers.

We are turning into "Religious Police State".

thats too much for them to act so. This extreme case cause the bad reputation of our country..the news been spreaded to outside of our sign till american friend of mine laughed at me..:( god!

SIGH. all i can say is religious enforcers must surely be bored in Langkawi. they're probably thinkin 'goddamn foreigners come to our country take our jobs and sh*g our women!' hell, they get nailed just being in the same house with their own wives!!.

i also know of one expat wanting to get into this scheme but backed out when he realised he can't sell the property. shame, 'cause i do feel a sense of pride knowing a foreigner wants to live here. a pox on religious officers and the mo*ons who created the MMSH scheme. myopia is rampant.

The holier-than-thou attitude that those officers ("monkeys")are displaying is despicable and will do no good to pur country.

Let us all 'pray' that our country will not end up becoming a Talibanistic state where women are treated worse than an animal. You don't believe? Please follow the following link: http://www.rawa.us/movies/movies1.html to view a video clip of a point-blank shooting of a muslim woman for a crime which does not warrant a death penalty.

Guys,

MMSH is not for Mat Sallehs. It is meant for Indons only.

I see this not as an isolated case, but one of many of such series of deliberate steps of reminding the rakyat that their fear of an extremist Islamic state would come true should they harbour hopes to vote for the opposition...

May not be so, but that's what came into mind as soon as I read that article.

Good one Groo....

ROTFLMAS....

A punishment to the Mat Salleh foreigners bcos not investing in Malaysia anymore. Next year even lower FDI. Ha! Ha!

Sungguh bodoh. To the highest order. Lupa bawak otak

Surely there was a unreported third person involved in this, no?

this so-called 2nd home program has been a failure from the start ... can anyone tell me how many foreigners has signed for it and live happily therafter ?

almost all the so-called govn agencies wanna show the little-napolean power to everyone inclusing innocent citizens ... as their jobs doesn't demand much from them, they became creative enough to wander out of your boundaries to become sheriff of town ... that's tipical of our law-enforcers ....

i'm not surprise at all ... like father like son, like leader like follower ...

this country need to major re-engineering if wanna catch-up with the world ...

sorry, i forgotten we're better than namibia & ghana ...

Can any couple going to Langkawi be treated that way? Who are going to Langkawi for holidays then?

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
