Sombre yet fulfilling

The passing of Venerable Dr K. Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera is a sombre and yet a happy, fulfilling occassion for the devotees. From samsara to sunyata, the Reverend travelled his life to benefit many different people in many different ways. He is now eternally relieved and being ushered into his new home before home.

Observe and contemplate. Damo Amitabha Buddha fills the bosom of many who make time to dedicate a moment of appreciation for Reverend's good deeds for the country.

And the wheel keeps turning for those caught in impermanency, changeful things and changeful states, and those circulating in the realms.

is that your new camera?

I hope it is not disrespectful, but nice shots!

Dear reverend,
May you enjoy Nirvana.

To my fellow Buddhists,

What happens now? Who takes over?

JEFF OOI says: The answer is in the last picture. There is a symbolism why I had allowed a slightly "loose" framing in the composition. Well, that's a way of expressing a message when I hit the shuttle when the photo opportunity flashed by.

who are you to say that the reverend has gone to the nirvana? rather presumptuous. no?

yes, agree lsk. who are you to say that Chief has gone to Nirvana? he might not have attained Nibbanahood, but he will definitely be born into a higher platform of the samsara, or perhaps reborn into this world to continue his doing good deeds, before finally attaining Nibbana.

the monk in the last picture is Chief's nephew, and he may not necessary be the one to take over. the next Chief Monk will be appointed, but inherited.

you may spread false news on politician, this and that, please get your facts right before posting, as you have a lot of readership in screenshots.

JEFF OOI says: Did I mention names of the so-called "successor" (is "successor" at all important when all things return to "Emptiness")? Didn't I mention there is a symbolism in the composition of the last picture? To me, leadership at the Maha Vihara will come from sangha. To put it more definitively, my context of sangha is to mean the assembly of all beings possessing some degree of enlightenment. Tonight, I shall attempt to transfer merit to those presumptuous ones. Buddhism, if I read it well (and I am still reading it on and off), doesn't emphasise idolising of physique but to cultivate good seeds in oneself, hence the passing of the Reverend will spur on people who remember his good deeds and devotion for peace and harmony locally and globally, and to do something better for mankind. That has been the heritage in over two thousand years Dhamma has grown. On the other hand, who are we to deny the Reverend his share of nirvana though we verily can't dictate the wheel of samsara from turning and turning. Observe and contemplate. Amitabha. Amitabha. Amitabha.

Let me be presumptious...I do not want to make this matter a debate as well.

JEFF OOI says: I must say (former Malay Mail journalist) Azlan wrote us a touching account of how a being (Reverend) has touched the heart of another. And peace and harmony develops and envelopes thy bosom.

Om Mani Padme Hum

May his buddhist roots penetrate deep enough to all the people to plant a buddha seed and grow

Here's one favorite quote I heard from somewhere for this ocassion. It may not be accurate but this is the gist of it: "...Your friends may follow you only to the end of the road leading to the grave. Your family & relatives may follow you only up to the grave but not beyond that. Only your deeds, good or bad, may follow you from there on..."

Jeff,

I hope you don't mind as I have uploaded your photos into my Yahoogroup listing: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TeachingsOfBuddha/

JEFF OOI says: Please go ahead. Spread the seeds for wisdom, peace and harmony.

The Venerable Dr K. Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera is a jewel in the hearts of men.

He is a prolific writer on Buddhist thought and he writes with such simplicity and clarity.

Although I am not a Buddhist by any classification, but I have kept several of his books as a "must-have on the shelf" amongst the books in my professional library.

He is like an oasis of calmness and serenity in the midst of all the troubles we have, in the country, and globally.

His labours are over. We still have ours to contend with.

We will all die soon enough. But something else retains. Deeds are one parcel (sydput echoes Goethe well.)

Writings another. The worldwide web is a repository of mankind.

The last lesson of life seems to be something to do with renunciation. Some learn it better than others.

But, young and old, all face that hurdle.

every man dies,
but not every man really lives.

let our efforts for peace and love for all continue.

where is the other umno leader paying respect to him? all is see is the 'extermist/intolerable' PAS husam musa only.
