Kubang Pasu: Powers-that-be the reason
Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said Dr Mahathir should have won easily as a national delegate in Kubang Pasu.
It's the powers-that-be that robbed him of an ‘easy’ victory, Ku Li said. Quote from Malaysiakini:
“With the state of play, I suppose you cannot expect anything other than a loss for Mahathir. I think people were determined to stop him from being elected,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
“Otherwise how could a man - a leader for the Kubang Pasu division for more than 30 years who brought development (there), an ex-premier who created a name for the country - is suddenly not wanted by his own people.
“It’s shocking. I don’t think the Malays are that ungrateful. After all, he is only seeking to be a representative (of the division), not to become prime minister or deputy prime minister. He doesn’t want that anymore,” added the Gua Musang MP.
“He would have won easily. He is not just a great leader but also a world renowned leader,” he said, arguing that there must have been forces working against Mahathir.
Ku Li also called on both Mahathir and Abdullah to meet and iron out their differences. The spat between them "does disturb people’s thinking and perception of what is happening in the country”, he said.
Comments
Compared to Mahathir, Badawi is a nonentity. If Badawi is a genuine PM with national interest in mind, he should allow Mahathir to address the UMNO delegates & whomsoever the former PM wishes to talk with. However, when one is on the 'sour grapes' part of political survival, the Badawi strategy will be the only course of action. At least Ku Li speaks his mind.
But then again ... the view expressed above is solely mine.

I guess Ku Li will be a suitable candidate for an interim PM if a deal can be struck between Tun's camp and Badawi's camp.
At least at the present moment, Ku Li seems less of a devil than those two.

What Ku Li did not mention is that sadly, even the Kubang Pasu members can be swayed by "other factors". Then again, isn't that a feature of Malaysian politics ?

Pak Lah is spending too much time in M'sia being embroiled in internal affairs and being manipulated by few ministers as well as his trouble maker son-in-law.
During Tun M's days, he go overseas a lot to promote M'sia.
By being on overseas assignments, Tun M can escape from manipulators in his government and can set his heads clear at least on his own thinking, unlike Pak Lah now is acting on his manipulators thinkings.
Pak Lah should restrict easy access from his manipulators and strategise his own thinking overseas. By that, Pak Lah can then choose who he want to have access to.

polticians are politicians, whether he is a Stateman, a Ex-PM candidate or current Head of adminstration. They would talk like saints who do no wrong. But in reality, Dr. M and Ku Li would have done the same if they were the "Power that be". In fact with their "sharper political skrewdness", i am sure they would have executed their "blocking" tactics more "delicately" but "equally brutal" no less.
Very sad no doubt, but welcome to the world of real politics where pursuing and preseving powers by all means are the sole purpose.

i for one dont want to see PM n TDM shake hands and let bygones be bygoens. TDM has brought forth some serious allegations and i would like to see justice served! Either PM wins or TDM wins. Anything apart from that then it means rakyat has been taken for a ride again. Anything done behind closed doors will only ignite more doubts and rakyat will be even ore wary of the govt in the future. A crime si a crime, a wrong is a wrong. You cant undo the wrongs, u have to face the consequences. Where is the LAW?

well said Ku Li..impossible for TDM to not win 1 out of the 7 places..especially with the fact that Malays have a high tendency of "mengenang jasa" as long as money is not involve cause then Malays have a high tendency of "orang memberi kita ambil dan berjasa pada pemberi"....
