Dr M's pre-emptive to Saturday decider

You may call him a broken record that plays the same old tunes, but Dr Mahathir is single-minded, focussed and consistent in whatever he says, and blasts on.

DrM_0028x300v.jpgYesterday, the wire agencies and local media turned up in full force for his press conference. To them, Mahathir declared he is now a former prime minister of Malaysia who had been made pariah.

"And I am, of course, actually the first member of Umno... Umno Baru was formed by me," he reminded the Press yesterday.

Brushing off reporters' questions on Proton, Scomi's billion-ringgit local contracts and Khairy's racist rhetorics, Mahathir's current focus is the death of democracy in Umno under Abdullah's leadership, and the run-up to the November Umno annual general assembly.

Evidently, it took just three years for his successor to deconstruct the legacy he built in 22 years as the grand leader of the nation and his political party, and Mahathir is not taking it lying down. He said the current leadership has “gone all out to stop me”.

"If I speak to the Umno members, they accuse me of splitting the party. If I work with the NGOs, they accuse me of being a traitor," Mahathir said yesterday.

He promised that he would soldier on despite the tides turning against him. However, even when pressed several times by the journalists, he refused to reveal his Plan B if he failed to get elected as a national delegate this Saturday.

'Cut him off outside Umno'

Giving evidence to the orchestrated plan to cut him off from touching base with the Umno grassroots and the Malay heartland, Mahathir listed six of his functions that were cancelled or indefinitely postponed, including one from a university institute set up to research on Dr Mahathir's thoughts. They were:

  • August 24: Program Jasamu DiKenang "Sejalur Bakti - Sekalung Budi" in conjunction with the anniversary of the establishment of Pemuda Umno. Organiser: Umno Youth Selangor

  • August 26: Opening of the Padang Besar Umno Divisional Delagates conference.Organiser: Umno Padang Besar Division.

  • September 6: Wacana Patriotisme bersama Pelajar-Pelajar Universiti Utara Malaysia. Organiser: Institut Permikiran Tun Dr Mahathir, UUM

  • September 6: A talk to Diplomatic Training PTD Officers. Organiser: Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), Wisma Putra

  • September 8: Special Invitation to Kursus Pengembangan Minda II at Langkawi Lagoon Resort. Organiser: Perlis Malay Chamber of Commerce

  • November 20: Form Sejenak Bersama Pemimpin.Organiser: The Culture, Arts and Heritage Bureau of Pemuda Umno

Screenshots has obtained documents which show Wisma Putra/IDFR's official invitation to Mahathir dated June 15 was agreed to by the former prime minister on June 26. However, the organiser's decision to cancel the September 6 function was conveyed to Mahathir's office verbally. (See PDF, 265kb.)

DrM_IDFR_Consent.jpg

The invitation from the Institute Pemikiran Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (IPDM) was dated May 7. It was indefinitely postponed via a formal letter dated July 6, citing the national Merdeka Day celebrations in Sarawak as the main cause. (See PDF here, 285kb.)

'Cut him off inside Umno'

The former Umno president also alleged that there are instructions to Umno division delegates not to ‘choose’ him as a national delegate at this Saturday’s Kubang Pasu Umno division meeting. And the hatchetman is none than his former political secretary, Mohd Johari Baharum, who is now deputy Internal Security Minister.

“I believe that the supreme council decides that (Kubang Pasu head Mohd) Johari (Baharum) is the man to stop me from being a delegate,” he said yesterday. Quote:

“The leader of the division has been instructed to ensure that I lose this contest. If I lose, it must be because of that. Funny, funny things happened in Kelantan. I hope nothing funny happens in Kubang Pasu.”

The Umno strategy, he said, was to get him defeated at the level of national delegates election using the power of incumbent, and to subsequently tell party members that even the grassroots do not suppoort him.

Mahathir also said that Abdullah's Umno may pull off with success as a 5-star general has been assigned to execute the plan. Quote Malaysiakini:

“If I lose this, it must be because of some pressure exerted on the delegates to the division meeting on the 9th (Saturday). I hope I don’t lose of course, but there is a possibility (of that) because there is no more democracy in Umno,” he said.

“They seem to be going all out. Even government officers seem to be there. (Umno secretary-general) Radzi (Sheikh Ahmad) seems to be there. Men are there at the meeting from all the different branches.

Mahathir has received 16 nominations from a total of 143 branches - making him one of the 17 eligible candidates to battle for seven allocated seats at the party general assembly this November.

Each Umno division will send 13 delegates to the assembly. While seven of them will be elected, the remaining six will attend the party assembly by virtue of their posts in the division - division chief, deputy chief, vice-chief, Wanita chief, Youth chief and Puteri chief.

Even if Mahathir was elected a national delegate, he is still assured of a slot to speak as all speakers are pre-determined by Umno tradition. However, Abdullah's Umno is not letting it to chance and Mahathir acknowledges it,and this what he was prepared to do if he was elected a national delegate and not allowed to speak:

I will go there, sit there and listen to find out how many lies are going to be told.

But Mahathir gave a context to why the present Umno leadership wanted to totally cut him off:

“What they are saying that people should not choose me as delegate because it will cause my glorious position as ex-president to be lowered, therefore they want to save my good name. But of course, the whole intention is to show that my own division does not want me. That would be used later on to tell Umno that even my own division does not want me.

“It is not because of love for me, kononnya kerana sayang untuk pemimpin ini, janganlah pilih saya (they are told not to vote for me, purportedly to show their love for this leader).”

'What's the shadow that Abdullah fears?'

And here comes the broken record, or some call it Mahathir's consistency of thoughts, and I quote what I heard from the horse's mouth yesterday:

“I thought it is an easy thing for me. This is a minor thing for the party, there are some 2,000 delegates but apparently this is taken seriously, as if I have to be shut up completely, that my mouth is muzzled so that I cannot say anything. There must be something frightening about what I have to say, to take this elaborate and very serious action against me.

“I sense there is a climate of fear, no one dares to speak, only in whispers. Even when they talk to me they tend to lower their voice, even where there is nobody around.

"I want to hear the debate. If I can contribute, I will contribute. Given an opportunity to speak, I will clarify. I will go there and listen and find out how many lies are going to be told.”

If Mahathir was given 5 minutes at the November AGM, will he be able to deliver an earth-shatterring speech, or draw a standing ovation, that will put paid to Abdullah's political career?

The puasa month is approaching this month-end. Some Malay friends told me that, instead of restraints in speech and demeanour, this is going to be an intensed month for truth. You can't tell lies during the fasting month, they reminded me.

I do not know for sure if there had been parties in this protracted Mahathir-Abdullah tussle who hawkered and sold untruths, but there is a wisdom in what I learned from my Malay friends. I mentioned that in our 3-minute podcast.

The bitter old man is walking the path of his ex-successor that he had vilified to extremities. Isn't that ironic?

serves him right ....he deserves this and more!

AAB should keep him out..for good .... untill he comes cleans with his past atrocities and apologises to Malaysia!

Till then, he gets the boot!

Institut pemikiran Tun Dr. Mahathir?? I wonder if there is are other such institute elsewhere, like a study on Stalin, Lenin, Chairman Mao or even Einstein? Who financed these institutions? And what possibly can you learn from such studies on Mahathir's thoughts except maybe on how to confront and win your opponents and manipulate the masses by making contradictory statements??? On democracy in Umno, you reap what you sow. Give TDM his speech as a special guest speaker at Umno conference. Pak Lah can remake Malaysia as a bastion for democracy and freedom by doing this small favour for TDM.

TDM has repeatedly used examples of how the late Dato' Onn and Tunku whom fell out of favour with the UMNO grass root supporters and hence one had to leave UMNO and the other resigned as the country's PM.

Maybe its about time TDM realises he is no longer the FLAVOUR!! And he is reaping what he had sowed for 22 years!!!!

I am sure we had enough of 22 years under TDM even though we cannot denied TDM contribution to the country for the past 22 years.....without his stern policy for the past 22 years, we would not see "Malaysia Boleh" attitude, be it good or bad. Do let AAB run the country as promised by him during the election with the BN manifesto, if he is not delivering, the power of democracy should be exectuted by each of Malaysian by using the "Malaysia Boleh" spirit and wake the BN up....they might be still in honeymoon mood due to the overwhelming win in Election 2004....

Note: The rest of the commentators..above. are u guys hyprocrites.
\
THat guy mahathir , regardless of all the bad things he have done, because of his stern actions/policies we are enjoying some of the luxuries in life.
He is going out to speak / and do and fight for whatever you guys here are complaining about /ranting about and all you have to say is He deserve all the punishment.

Come on grow up. If he is fighting for our nation's complaints and ranting..Support him.
If not, stop ranting and complain here about current policies.

Granted everyone's not perfect especially him...but focus on what is important for the nation. He have done more for malaysia than what us commentors have done for the nation.

As a non bumi, I could find a reason not to sympathise with him. But the truth of the matter is that I think like a Malaysian where he is concerned. I tried to understand his policies, his high handiness, his one track decisions and his dislikes. I could always find silver linings in them. The present government should just move on with another chapter in history instead of demonising the past. We did not vote for vendetta and feudalism. Let the man speaks and the delegates to decide. We are not all morons. We can think.

think for a minute.
didt Tun did worst things to his enemies? so the life cylce continues.
padan muka!

What goes around comes around, ...... after dishing out for so many years, now he's on the recieving end,....I bet there are many smiling out there...

KayanButter,

Is TDM currently voicing because of the nation's interest or purely his own selfish reasons?? Take note, he mentioned he will shut up if the government builds the Scenic Bridge. Is that what the rakyat want??

No doubt about the some of the good things he had done, but surely the amount of bad policies he has instituted in 22 years far outweighed all the positive contributions. As a nation that had just celebrated her 49th independence anniversary, we are still grappling with racial and religious issues. Guess who steered the country into this dangerous path?? Who cheekily amended Article 11 of the constitution? Who proclaimed this nation to be an islamic country? Who killed the judiciary?

Look, even during the so called golden era under his leadership, South Korea, Hongkong, Taiwan and our southern neighbour Singapore all eclipsed Malaysia in their economic growth.

Given the blessings and all the national resources Malaysia has (the above countries mentioned above had little or none), we should be at least on par with them, if not ahead.

Rgds

regardless of what dr m DID (notice the past tense)... what he voiced out right now is valid and a concern of the future of the nation... be realistic... we CANNOT change the past but we CAN shape the future...

how many of you in here actually have your voice being heard by the government before? much less the media? if dr m is the vehicle for us to shape the future and make changes, for god's sake, lets take a ride with him...

Problem with TDM now is this, is he fighting for the rakyat or for Himself?? I have listened to his ceramahs at various locations made available by RPK, its more of deal turned sour between the two men.

TDM can only blamed himself as he was the one whom chose AAB to be his successor.

"TDM can only blamed himself as he was the one whom chose AAB to be his successor." - Al

"The Chosen One" that Tun Dr Mahathir picked is not the same guy who is our current PM, "The Mistakenly Chosen One". Tun Dr Mahathir already reiterated his regret on this too many times.

"Problem with TDM now is this, is he fighting for the rakyat or for Himself??" - Al

If you think what Tun presented against the Administration through the rapat umum was damaging enough, re-assess again. Then you'll know whether it's for the nation or for himself. Go and start by finding out whether it's true or not that "The Mistakenly Chosen One" brought in his family into 4-eyes-only national security briefing.

"we CANNOT change the past but we CAN shape the future" - blackrage

We cannot change the past but can learn from it to shape the future.

If the Umno assembly doesn't allow him to speak, it will be labelled sore winners for a long time.

The problem with Umno as governance incarnate of this country is that it has this tendency to overlook and gleam over past mistakes and excesses in pursuit of some ideals not carefully couched in realworld terms.

In allowing M2 that platform, he cannot then later say that the Umno of this saturday is undemocratic. If they don't, how different would the present administration then be from the one in the past that it is trying to wean itself from?

Future Umno members won't then say that he was denied an open forum simply because the incumbents have things to hide.

If they are right, what is there to hide? If they are wrong, what is there to run away from admitting to having done wrong, and then proceeding vigorously to rectify? Unless they want the cake and eat it, in which case, case-closed, go-home, pack-up, and sayonara, cruel world.

No doubt, what M2 will be saying at the GA will create a vortex of contention and unease but better it be out in the open once and for all than to have it fester and hope that time will heal all wounds and people will find pragmatism in overlooking bad practices ......simply because it is in human nature to continue to take shortcuts at the expense of principles, and isn't all this garbled talk about changing mindsets really about realigning governance to good principles?

M2 would himself know that if he speaks, he opens himself to recriminations for his own past record. Maybe it is his my-way of finding his own self-renunciation as a final parting. If each rakyat won't deny another that, what more to a former past Prime Minister? If a taliban would put down his own life to shelter a homeless visitor, why less a party their former leader?

This is the only one open forum chance for the vortex of crisscrosses to take place, so that both sides will get the chance to 'cross-examine' each other, and lay it all out in the open. The harvest is that some hard lessons will be learnt as to how this country has come to this stage when a major component party, presumably of the alliance spirit, has become so moribund and unequal to its remits, what more the main contributor to extremely bad ethnic relations against the very spirit that forms the foundation of this nation.

Whether what he says will be prompted by personal interest (advance payment to be returned for projects cancelled?) is another matter. Let that be asked too and let there be answers as well. Answers to be balanced from the other side whether nepotism and cronyism are continuing in the present administration whose very severities will be enough to cheapen any compassion for the lowly rakyat promoted by the recent rakyat-focused budget (which continues to be ridiculously opaque to the real plight of pensioners)

Umno should not underestimate the capability of all rakyat to accept unpalatable truths. It already recriminates itself when it underestimates their capacity for enduring the crap that has bedecked its record of governance. The urbanites rankle and seethe, the ruralites barely tolerate. Neither need anymore the pontifications of puffinated preeners that seem to be the only hallmark of that misogynous party. As the engine of future growth from the private sector, both are needed to move the economy. All are already deeply wounded and disillusioned.

Let it all hang out now (but gird those sarongs at the assembly).

some ppl felt that TDM is getting what he deserves for his past sins but i beg to differ. He is doing the rakyat a favor now in exposing the various flaws in AAB's govt. We hv lived thru the 22yrs and AAB is adding to it in just a mere 3 yrs. Do we need more? Are we to let this happen just to see TDM gets what he deserves and foresake our own future? We shld be solidly behind TDM now so that our own interests are protected. We dont need anymore present failures from AAB and his konco2 esp SIL and his son. If it is illegal then let the full brunt of the law be upon them. Instead of harping on the past, why cant we look at the present n future?

what is AAB afraid of? Let him speak.
maybe AAB and the rest really have something to hide.

Dr. Mahathir - The person who influence me most!

Being a 30+ man, I grow in the way he wants me to be. He decide what I should learn, see, listen and do. Today, I’m what I’m today. A polite, humble, considerate and tolerate Malaysian. And I’m proud.

Vision 2020, safe home and progressing economic. We are progressing.

I will be very much like to see Dr. Mahathir continue contribute to the country in whatever way he can.

hey..those who feel Tun should keep quiet..you guys are just plain self centred ppl. you guys don't care about the country at all..you guys don't care the fact that our current Pm is not making decisions, you guys don't care the fact that our country is currently being run by the PM's SIL, you guys don't care about corruption and the fact that somebody out there is willing to clean things up..yes you will say he started it all up...but come onla ppl..at least he is making an effort to clear it all ..come on la ppl..lets be adults here..Tun only wants an opportunity to speak up and share his concerns...watsup with padan muka dia and all the rubbish..Yes we've had enough of him for 22 years...but honestly there are more out there who's had enough of this 3 years..Malaysia has not move forward not an inche for the past 3 years..oh sorry...we have another national car...NAZA KIA!..is that all that we have achieve??..think ppl think..there must be something wrong somewhere and if no one has balls to voice up all this rubbish then the least you can do is to give Tun a chance at the mike.

UMNO has not known democracy for donkey years.

Mahathir himself established the "no-contest" rule for Pres and Dep Pres.

Suppose Mahathir hijacks the General Assembly and launches a coup, and wins.

And then what? We revert to Mahathir or Mahathir-like or Mahathir-linked administration where we resume the Malaysia-boleh-biggest-longest-shortest-tallest-ugliest craze? Proton cars for all (except the King and UMNOputras)? A jambatan bengkok to Singapore? A ruined relationship with our neighbours? More chest beating and flag waving? ISA for opponents? More spin under Kadir Jasin / DKL types? More piratisation? More IPP fiascos? An accelerated corruption and abuse of the police force? A continuation of build-first think-later projects ala Bakun? More anti-Semitism? Ops Lalang 2? A continued destruction of the judiciary?

Mahathir, you accuse this era of Khary and SCOMI. But under your's we had Daim, Tajudin Ramli, RENONG and Halim Saad. The alternative that you are presenting is no better, in fact worse, than what we have now.

Please Mahathir, you killed democracy in UMNO and Malaysia ages ago. Don't blame it on others. You yourself wouldn't have tolerated another Dr. M.

Dr Mahathir is single-mindedly dogmatic, focussed on his own agenda and consistent in proving himself a hypocrite.

Alphabet soup:

Firstly, who was Dr. M to have a so-called private agreement with Badawi in 2004?

Secondly, we elect a government into office. Not a President. It is not expected that the PM makes all decisions and takes all responsibility. The majority coalition in Dewan Rakyat delegates that responsibility to the Cabinet. So I don't see anything wrong with AAB not making all decisions.

Thirdly, if Dr. M really cared about this government, why doesn't he target his criticism towards other issues? Like how 1 person can hold 3 Cabinet portfolios? Or towards police reform?

Fourthly, we have moved forward tremendously over past few decades. Credit goes to Dr. M and others for this. Along the way, we have also forgotten alot of things. Like how to be civil towards each other. How to think for ourselves. What it means to have First World Mentality. Badawi isn't taking us through this as quickly as we like. But it's still better than nothing, unlike during Dr. M's time.

Fifthly, Dr. M should understand that his source of worries at the present time are because he himself not managing to complete what he had set out to do. Given that he didn't finish what he had initially set out to do, why should he or anyone expect someone else to finish that job?

Sixthly, why does he accuse anyone or anything that works out against his interest as being that of the present regime? He accuses Guna and Brendan P. as new spin doctors for UMNO. He says that if he doesn't get to be a delegate, it's the UMNO boys' fault. If he would become a delegate, he will then say that UMNO has spoken. Either way Mahathir is a good guy.

Seventh, if Mahathir really believes in UMNO democracy, then why doesn't he call for a repeal of the no-contest rule he put up? Why doesn't he say that "it was a mistake"?

“I sense there is a climate of fear, no one dares to speak, only in whispers. Even when they talk to me they tend to lower their voice, even where there is nobody around."

It's the same treatment he gave many. The current system is the same he has used to maintain his grip for so long. Speak for the rakyat? Now? I guess some really want to clinch on some glimmer of hope here or use this occassion to find answers from the current government. The answers will not satisfy you. Zero sum game. A or B win, rakyat always lose. BN cannot evolve for the better anymore.

yo pisang,

the thing about dr. m's attack on the current administration is focussed and not on nit-picking ...

since he has no intention to ever become PM again and don't think that he can practically, logically his attack is legitimate as a citizen of malaysia given that it pinpoints the problem of the government of the day.

how can u condone the PM's reply that he didn't know of the dealings of Scomi and etc ?

if Dr.M's crusade can be defeated in such undemocratic way, what makes you people think that your *democratic* exercise of your right to vote could not be defeated either ?

such pathetic hyprocrites some of u ppl can be...

Jeff,

Speaking of hypocrites, you would do well to remind your "muslim" friends that as muslims, its not that you're not supposed to lie during Ramadan, you're not supposed to lie period.

JEFF OOI says: There is wisdom in what you said.

Same goes to not being dishonest in conducting business period, not taking bribes any day of the week, and not stepping/impeding fellow friends when you're in "high society" (biasalah kan?).

Orang-Sabah

What if many allegations are right from party A?
What if many allegations are also right from party B?
What if party A lost RM10 billion?
What if party B also lost but RM20 billion?
Like the phrase 'shiok sendiri' to know the state of falleness as a country. Rakyat lost. So if the elected don't serve you, then don't elect them.

For all the AAB supporters who are the first to post their comments, I praise you for supporting your hero.

But, don’t just tell me to give AAB a chance to do his job without interference, or that he is only three years into his PMship. To tell me that is to insult my intelligence.

Telling people to give AAB a chance to do his job gives me the impression that this country should allow him or the PM’s men (or women) to abuse the APs, tell lies in the mass media, hide the truth behind the MV Agusta sale, bury the facts under the crooked bridge, facilitate his son to be a “Towering Malay” millionaire, catapult his son-in-law to be a “Towering Malay” politician, and THREATEN BLOGGERS AND COMMENTERS.

If I should give AAB a chance to do all this, I should ask the blog commenter called IImran to shoot me dead. Or, Citizen Nades should shoot me in the head.

For goodness sake, instead of telling us how much you hate Dr M, go and tell the PM to wake up and know what the hell is happening around him.

They are all politicians. All have vested personal interest. All are like chameleons, can change colour when the need arises. What goes around, comes around. People who hold power today, too, may experience the system working against them in the future.

3rd generation said :-

"Like the phrase 'shiok sendiri' to know the state of falleness as a country. Rakyat lost. So if the elected don't serve you, then don't elect them."

very good. i support that noble contention.

but just to reinforce what I've said earlier ...

for those hypocrites whom thinked that the exercise of the right to vote is very much alive in Malaysia, please note that more than 50% of the so-called *elected* representatives of MPs are not by voters' election ... they are selected because there are no opposing contestants ...

Tun Dr Mahathir should continue with the onslaught on the present government administration on handling of issues related to national interests. Only if he is back at the helm as before would you be able to see the old [ DELETED - Eff word ] faces and deadwoods of the present cabinet members are remove and replace by more capable people. Can you name anyone else who can perform this job ?.

Until then, don't expect much to happen. How long we have been waiting for the truth on the FOUR ISSUES RAISED BY TDrM to be answered by the present administration ?. What kind of reply have we got thus far ?. Nothing but BULLSHIT. Where are the INTEGRITY, TRANSPARENCY and CREDIBILITY of the present administration we are talking about ?.

Pantai Holdings got sold out, now we got Pantai Irama, do you see any difference in terms of Management and equity control ?. Just how smart our ministers are, buy high sell low !!!. Its our money they are giving away like charity. While Singaporkian are laughing at us, we are exaggerating and like to relate issues down to racial sentiments among us. Our cabinet ministers are busy on issues of least significant in parliament. The mainstream media be printed or electronic is busy indoctrinating our mind with irrelevant sensations while the truths are reserved.

Day in day out the rakyat are screwed left and right, top to bottom from side to side.

Go TDrM Go, Long Live TDrM !!!. Restore the DIGNITY of our beloved Malaysia.

I remember one phrase I heard from a leader in China :

Don't care whether is a white or black cat, if it can catch mice then it is a good cat

IF AAB resigns or no longer the PM, then whom will be the next PM? Najib?? Will things be different if Najib becomes PM? And whats next after Najib, Hishamuddin-the-keris-mahaguru? God weeps for Malaysia.

Corruption is already part of the Malaysian culture, thanks to TDM's 22 years of nurturing. Compare it to the time when Tun Hussein Onn was PM. Do you possibly think its possible to eradicate corruption in Malaysia within a short span of time?

Why now only TDM mentioned about the corrupted ministers? Weren't all of them corrupted during his administration???

TDM wants to save Proton, do we Malaysians want to continue to subsidise Proton?? Pay high prices for a car with obsolete technology (no traction control, variable valve timing and etc)?

Do we want another MAS debacle? Perwaja? Bank Negara's forex loss scandal? Death of the judiciary? The list goes on....

AAB may not be an angel, but he is the lesser devil for sure. BTW, the late Tun Hussein Onn did mentioned, his biggest mistake in life was to hand over the baton to TDM.

Well Hussein Onn did not manage to live in this age to be sorry for what he have said.
Without what ever contributions made to this country ..do u think we will come to this stage. Leave this country to another elegant silent PM, this is what you get so far after 3 years of PM hood.

Corruption is everywhere not just in this country so efforts to eradicate this is on par with other countries.....which is nothing.

But the main interest of the nation is who holds power in this country ..it is who serves the best interest of the rakyat. It's not about who is in power , who seems to look much better.

DR M have made mistakes in life..at least he's bold enough to make changes...
Admist of all these things ...about our education, our lifelihood...our cost of living..where got people got time to think about cars...

Proton is the least of the problem right now......

If you are working /have relatives in proton working there , you would not have posted proton to be abolished...Think deeper people.

The root of the cause is the NEP AND NAP that have gutted the nation to its doom and here we have someone willing to go thru all of it even though he's past retirement age is someting we should encourage him..not hit at him for makign points for you

Many Malaysian on the street are not bothered much by the intigations of corruption, etc., when it is under control and they can earn a decent living, be happy and 'don't worry'. If the present government should falter, it won't be Dr.M doings. It will be by the ultramans surrounding the president. They are rocking the boats too hard.

/// More piratisation? More IPP fiascos? ///

pisang - I hope it is not a typo and you really meant PIRatisation and not PRIVatisation. Given the way the lopped-sided way the IPP contracts were drawn up (and other privatisation projects such as North-South Highway and other toll charges), it is more like piratisation. Yes, pirates who waylay you and rob you in broad daylight.

Hi Al

You wrote: "AAB may not be an angel, but he is the lesser devil for sure."

Oh my god, I beg you, do not continue to insult my intelligence.

I love to hate Dr M, but that does not make me go "gila" and allow the "lesser devil" commit his brand of abuse of power, dereliction of duty, corruption, mismanagement, mass media indoctrination, threatening the internet community, and other forms of evil.

What you write gives me the impression that you are a member of the spinning squad.

If not, then tell us what you have done to wake the PM up.

Apart from the reasons TDM open fire on Pak lah, he did open up the eyes of all of us on the wrongs of our current/past government.

He also open the windows of opportunities for all of us to criticize the current administration, which is a major step in pushing for democratic in Malaysia political scene. Before that, we all are quiet in the fear of prosecution, with him starting the walk, we all can follow suit.

I am no fan of him, but still, for that I thank him.

Jeff

First of all, THANK YOU for posting this thread and summarising what we all need to know about this Dr M vs UMNO drama.

What I find interesting is this:

It takes someone who had been made a "pariah" to quote, by UMNO, to come to their senses about the dangers of UMNO andUMNO Youth politics since 1970.

UMNO and UMNO Youth as the dominant ruling party surviving as entities on racial fears, had not check and balances, and had virtually ABSOLUTE POWER to run down the throat on every policy it makes or intimidated others they don't agree since 1970, they have achieved what even dictators don't enjoy ie ABSOLUTE POLITICAL ARROGANCE.

Now we hear the people who once ruled UMNO eg Anwar, Dr. M and other sitting in quiet corners because they are not getting the financial crumbs from UMNO and UMNO Youth's policies are out in arms.

What do we do? We should support this move so that the cobwebs since 1970 be removed and if possible, remake the whole political landscape of Malaysia to one in which entities like UMNO, MCA, MIC are not allowed to exist anymore.

One way is to make sure they become irrelevant to modern day politics.

People may say that Dr. M is not doing that, but that should be the first step to reform UMNO from a parochial fearful race-sensitive party into something more desirable to all Malaysians.

It takes a thief to catch a thief, as a saying goes.

My one cent worth.

INTERNET does not operate in a legal vacuum.
